Day 1: Halifax, NS to Baddeck, NS Depart Halifax on your included transfer to New Glasgow where you will meet your Tour Director or Driver/Guide and fellow travelers. Proceed to Cape Breton Island , the Scotland of North America, via the Canso Causeway .  Visit Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck to learn of the many accomplishments of this genius who made his home on the island before checking into your accommodations on the Bras d'Or Lake where you will spend the next two nights. Your day is complemented by a Sight-Seeing Boat Tour  (weather permitting).  (Dinner)

Day 2: Cabot Trail Touring Experience one of the most stunningly picturesque drives in North America today as you tour the Cabot Trail which winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton's northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park .  Look-offs offer unforgettable vistas of Cape Breton's rugged coastline so be sure to have your camera on hand .    (Breakfast, Boxed Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3: Baddeck, NS to Halifax, NS Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site awaits today, and words cannot do justice to this reconstruction depicting one fifth of the settlement of 1744 New France.  Roam the streets and chat with authentically costumed guides.  Proceed along the shore of the Bras d'Or Lake to the mainland, and back to Halifax for your departure.  (Breakfast)

Lovely Cabot trail ! We arrived in Sydney by cruise ship. I had booked the Cabot trail excursion with Blackwood Tours in advance. It was a comfortable bus for a small group and we had a great driver. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves ! My partner and I booked this Cabot Trail van tour privately during a port visit to Sydney, N.S. In July, ‘24. Our driver/guide, Kevin, who grew up in the area was totally knowledgeable about our route. He explained the history of Cape Breton Isl, more in depth history of the Cabot Trail section we explored as well as stories of local life, and his own experiences. We had several stops for dramatic photo ops, legs stretching and local business visits.

One of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see, so beautiful that Alexander Graham Bell chose Cape Breton as his retirement home. So beautiful that you will fall in love with the area and its people. The history of the Cabot Trail begins with the Mik’maq — the native people who primarily inhabited Maritime Canada. Mik’maq means “my kin-friends”, and these people lived throughout Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island in smaller groups.

In 1497, the first Europeans led by Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot) arrive on Cape Breton Island. It wasn’t till 1936 that Cape Breton highland national park was created to protect the Cabot Trial as a national historic site.

On this tour, we will spend three nights and four days in various places along our chosen route.
