The MLB London Series will be reprised in 2023 with a two-game series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs on June 24-25, 2023, as was announced today by Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA).

The 2023 London Series will mark a return to the baseball-configured London Stadium following the inaugural Mitel & MLB London Series that was held on June 29-30, 2019, between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The two-games at London Stadium were the first-ever regular season games played in Europe.

Both teams have previously played regular season games on the international stage. In 2000 the Cubs traveled to Tokyo, Japan to open the season with 2-games against the New York Mets and in 2003, played a 3-game series against the Montreal Expos in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2019 the Cardinals took on the Cincinnati Reds in a two-game series in Monterrey, Mexico.

“The Cardinals are excited and honored to be a part of the London Series next year.  The Cardinals-Cubs rivalry is one of the best in sports, and it will be exciting to bring it to Europe for a new audience to experience,” said William DeWitt Jr., Cardinals Chairman and CEO. “I have no doubt that the passionate sports fans in London will love these games and we look forward to creating some new Cardinals fans overseas.”

“The MLB London Series between the Cubs and Cardinals has been in the works for years now and we’re thrilled to finally be able to bring one of baseball’s biggest rivalries to fans abroad in 2023,” said Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts. “We hope that this series not only excites and entertains but brings more international sports fans to the game we all love.”

Graham Gilmore, CEO of London Stadium, said: “We are immensely proud to host Major League Baseball back at London Stadium, after the hugely popular London Series in 2019. This commitment will allow us to support the aim of MLB to grow the game in the UK for years to come, while demonstrating the versatility of our magnificent venue.”

The 2023 London Series is part of the MLB WORLD TOUR, a historic slate of games that will bring MLB teams and players to the league’s global fan base. The MLB WORLD TOUR represents MLB and the MLBPA’s largest ever international play plan featuring up to 24 regular season games and up to 16 exhibition games to be played in Asia, Mexico and Latin America, and Europe through the 2026 season.

Major League Baseball World Tour: London Series 2023 Returns Bigger Than Ever

mlb world tour locations 2023

Baseball fans across Europe are getting ready to cheer as the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Tour: London Series 2023 returns this summer. After a successful debut in 2019, the highly-anticipated event returns to London Stadium on June 24-25th, when the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs - whose rivalry stretches back more than 130 years - contest two regular season games.

VCCP Media, in partnership with CSM Sport & Entertainment (CSM) and MLB, has launched a 360 campaign spanning broadcast and addressable TV, BVOD, DOOH, and paid social.

The campaign creative, developed by CSM, showcases how fans will have the opportunity to enjoy an authentic US ballpark experience with high-intensity action and entertainment, in London this summer.

To bring this experience to life, the campaign is led by a partnership with Sky which will see the 30” TV spot appear adjacent to marquee sporting events nationally across Sky and BT Sport throughout April. This is supported by a rollout through Sky’s One Campaign solution reaching event-goers throughout London and the South East via AdSmart, BVOD & Advance.

To build reach and stature the campaign also includes full-motion digital outdoor screens targeting key London Underground stations, such as Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, which are synonymous with big events in the capital.

The campaign’s 30” film depicts the excitement of Major League Baseball, starting with a shot of the London Olympic Stadium and crowds arriving to watch the games. A range of ‘unbelievable’ batting shots are shown alongside amazing catches, as well as cheering crowds who are enjoying the games. It ends with a voice over saying “Experience the thrill of Major League Baseball this summer”. The upbeat music throughout adds to the excitement alongside the sounds of the crowds cheering. The film has been designed to create a buzz and attract people to the games.

An ongoing digital partnership with JOE Media, which is led through co-produced content shot during the 2022 MLB World Series, will further amplify the experience for fans when baseball makes a spectacular return to London.

Andy Owen, managing director - Major Events, CSM, said, "With a packed house at London Stadium watching one of baseball's most intense and historic rivalries, the MLB World Tour: London Series 2023 promises to be a spectacular event. CSM is proud to have developed the creative, and to be working with MLB and VCCP Media to amplify the campaign. We are excited for the launch and to build anticipation for another historic series in London."

Tara Marus, CEO of VCCP Media, said, “We are really excited to be launching this multi-channel AV campaign promoting the London Series and celebrating the spectacular event returning to the UK. Working with the innovative and passionate teams at media owners, CSM and MLB alike, with challenger spirits, they really do epitomise the type of brand and partners we love to work with."

MLB releases 2023 regular-season schedule, including Opening Day times, London, Mexico City series

The yankees vs. giants and braves vs. nationals open the season on march 30.

opening-week-getty.png

The full schedule for the 2023 Major League Baseball season has been released. We already had a decent idea of the general outline, but it's always nice to get the details.

Before even diving into the specifics on a team level, the biggest thing to discuss is the change in the shape of the schedule, so to speak. Instead of a schedule incredibly heavy on divisional matchups, it'll be much more balanced now. Check it out:

  • Teams had been playing 76 in-division games. That total is now down to 52 (13 games and four series against each foe).
  • Non-divisional intraleague games (for example, NL East vs. NL Central) is now a tidy 64 (32 home and 32 away) instead of 66. Each team will have seven games against four chosen opponents and six games against the other six teams fitting this criteria.
  • Interleague play gets the massive increase. There used to be 20 of these games and now each team has 46. This includes a home-and-home series between "natural rivals" and then one series (seven home, seven road for each team) against the remaining 14 teams in the other league.

Got all that? Good! Now onto the team specifics.

Opening Day

Here is the opener for every team, all start times PM and ET.

Thursday, March 30

  • Giants at Yankees , 1:05
  • Braves at Nationals , 1:05
  • Orioles at Red Sox , 2:10
  • Brewers at Cubs , 2:20
  • Tigers at Rays , 3:10
  • Twins at Royals , 3:10
  • Phillies at Rangers , 4:05
  • Mets at Marlins , 4:10
  • Pirates at Reds , 4:10
  • Blue Jays at Cardinals , 4:10
  • Rockies at Padres , 5:10
  • White Sox at Astros , 7:08
  • Angels at A's, 10:07
  • Guardians at Mariners , 10:10
  • Diamondbacks at Dodgers , 10:10

Thankfully, as opposed to many recent years, every single team plays on Opening Day. We'll know more when it gets closer, but expect a quadruple-header on some combination of ESPN and MLB Network, surely with Giants-Yankees starting things off and the defending Astros in primetime as the lone game in the 7 p.m. ET window.

MLB World Tour

The Giants and Padres face each other in Mexico City in a two-game series April 29-30. Later, the Cardinals and Cubs square off in London for a two-game set June 24-25.

All-Star Game

The Midsummer Classic takes place in Seattle's T-Mobile Park on Tuesday, July 11, meaning All-Star Monday (with the Home Run Derby) will fall on the 10th. All teams will be off July 10-13 as a result.

The final day of the regular season is Sunday, October 1 and every team will be in action. Among the 15 games, there are 10 divisional matchups, including Dodgers-Giants, Phillies-Mets and Blue Jays-Rays. All games will start between 3:00-3:15 p.m. ET, in hopes of maximum drama.

BOSTON — Pack your bags Red Sox fans, the MLB World Tour is traveling to four different countries for the 2024 season, and Boston’s home team will be featured in one of them.

The MLB announced on Wednesday the four international destinations for the tour will be London, England, Mexico City, Mexico, Seoul, South Korea, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Red Sox are slated to square off against the Tampa Bay Rays in a Spring Training series in Santo Domingo on March 9 and 10, according to league officials. The games will be played at Estadio Quisqueya, which hosts not one but two professional baseball teams from Dominican Professional Baseball League.

“This unique opportunity builds on our long-standing connection to the Dominican Republic and allows us to celebrate the remarkable talents and rich cultural heritage of a country whose passion for the game has distinctly shaped our organization,” Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said. “From the players who have passed through our Dominican Republic Academy to those who have helped us win championships, we have been fortunate to witness the profound impact of Dominican players within our game, and we are thrilled to be able to bring Red Sox baseball to such a vibrant baseball community next year.”

The Seoul Series, played between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, will be the opener of the 2024 regular season, marking the first MLB regular season game ever played in South Korea.

“Major League Baseball is incredibly excited for this extensive slate of international games in 2024,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “Our recent efforts have produced strong enthusiasm around the globe, and we look forward to building on that foundation with returns to Mexico City and London, while also opening the season in Korea for the first time. In addition, we can’t wait to celebrate the tradition of the sport in the Dominican Republic with our visit to Santo Domingo next March. We are thrilled that our fans across four different countries outside the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to see the game’s stars.”
