If you thought you were the cyclist who has everything, Castelli have just thrown a reasonable-sized spanner in the works – a 43-litre spanner, as it happens – with their new Rolling Travel Bag. That’s a suitcase to you and me.

Now when Castelli do something, they tend to go all-in and do it well, and being an Italian sportswear brand they have something of a flair for the dramatic. That manifests itself here in the Castelli logos on the case, which are made from high-vis material, the sort that when light hits it dead on explode like they’ve been back lit themselves.

And anyway, when you’re dragging that case behind you when you’re hitting hill reps how else are you going to make sure you stay seen?

In all seriousness, though, Castelli have brought their usual understated style and attention to detail to the suitcase, and the wet black almost leather-look finish is complimented by a couple of smaller red and white scorpions on the outside.

It’s also worth noting the finish of the outer is water and stain resistant, so should hopefully mean the case lasts a good long time.

That dark overall look is highlighted very nicely by smooth-rolling red wheels and a sturdy metallic red telescoping handle, which only becomes visible when you extend it.

Alongside the extendable handle, the case has two built-in handles – one on the top and one on the front making it easy to grab and move around.

Storage-wise, the case has a 43-litre capacity in three different compartments. The first is a small one on the front, at the top for easy-access so you can grab essentials on the move.

The inside is split into two different compartments, both with their own zipped divider, and that makes it easy to quickly find anything you need – whether it’s cycling kit or day-to-day clothing. One of these compartments has a mesh, fleece-lined sleeve for storing laptops and similar electronics.

The Rolling Travel Bag is part of Castelli’s wider luggage collection, which also includes an XL, 80-litre version of this suitcase, and a range of other products like a duffel bag, musette, backpack, rain bag and more.

Castelli have applied their usual meticulous approach here to produce a case made of materials that are both resistant to water and stains, so the contents are protected and the stylish looks are also preserved.

Your items are further protected by the semi-rigid base. Additionally, you can store your valuables in the fleece lined pocket for added security. Even the bag is protected thanks to the moulded skid plates.

Its material resists water and stains, it has multiple handles for all angles of carrying and hefting, and the two main compartments are further divided into sub-compartments to keep your base layers separate from your casual clothes and bibs.

The Legal Information:

In accordance with the Distance Selling Regulations 2014, the customer has the right to a cooling off period of fourteen (14) business days, starting at the time goods are received, to cancel the contract and return said goods at their own expense, without having to give a reason. The cooling off period and right to cancel do not apply to contracts, orders for any goods made to your specification, any downloaded goods or unsealed goods including but not limited to (DVD, CD, Tapes, Software, Video and audio).

Only complete and unused goods in perfect condition for resale will be accepted. No refunds or exchanges will be made for incomplete, damaged, used or unsealed goods, including damage to original packaging or missing tags. All wheels and wheel sets listed on our website are custom built/configured to order. International Delivery Customs Charges And International Returns Dependant on the country there may be additional local taxes, VAT, Duty and customs charges. Our Courier will normally pay all these charges on behalf of the customer. The courier will then collect these fees from the customer plus an admin fee. THE MERCHANT is not responsible for any customs related charges unless a specific "Delivered Duty Paid" courier option has been pre-arranged. In the event that a delivery is refused by a customer due to dispute or non payment payment of their country customs/taxes and the purchased items are returned to THE MERCHANT then the total of these charges plus any surcharges or return courier fees, plus any additional return taxes and customs charges plus the original shipping fee plus a re-stock fee of £30.00 will be deducted from any customer refund.

Its 43 litre capacity is packed into a diminutive external measurement of 35 x 54 x 25cm a size that meets most airlines carry on requirements (please check with your airline before flying).

The bag uses the same water and stain resistant materials, semi-rigid bottom (for support) and Moulded bottom skid plates as its big brother the XL. Low-density wheels a request from team riders who value their sleep makes for silent running inside and out. While an adjustable telescoping handle makes this a comfortable bag to drag around whatever your height. Internally the 2 main compartments are supplemented with several internal pockets as well as an externally accessed laptop sleeve and fleece-lined electronics pocket.

Our Pro riders can live out of the Castelli Rolling Travel Bag for more than a week but really we would recommend it for weekends away and possibly even the odd business trip.

Due to the semi-soft construction its easy to overstuff the Rolling Travel Bag giving it a barrel shape and exceed its stated depth. So if you intend to take this carry on don't overstuff it measure it when packed and check with your airline prior to flying the exact size you're allowed.

Its 43 litre capacity is packed into a diminutive external measurement of 35 x 54 x 25cm a size that meets most airlines carry on requirements (please check with your airline before flying)

Please note due to the semi-soft construction its easy to overstuff the Rolling Travel Bag giving it a barrel shape and exceed its stated depth. So if you intend to take this carry on don't overstuff it measure it when packed and check with your airline prior to flying the exact size you're allowed.

Our Pro riders can live out of the Castelli Rolling Travel Bag for more than a week but really we would recommend it for weekends away and possibly even the odd business trip.

Cycle Solutions offer a full 18-month warranty on bikes purchased through our online shop, in line with the guidance set out in the Consumer Rights Acts 2015.

In the unfortunate event of your purchase being affected by a warranty-covered fault, please inform us by email ( [email protected] ). Please note that our Aftersales Department's operating hours are 09:00AM to 17:30PM Monday to Friday.

Once a warranty claim has been placed we will review the claim and advise on an appropriate course of action, please do not return your item until you have spoken to an advisor.

Please allow a minimum of 15 working days from receipt of returned item(s) for repair/replacement under warranty. We expect to be able to return the items within a maximum 30 working days, however, specific timescales can change based on the requirements of the individual case.

Once you have spoken to our aftersales department, you may need to return the item, you can arrange this via any courier/delivery service that you choose.

Please contact us in advance if you wish to return a bike as Collect+ will not accept large items If a bike needs to be returned due to an incorrect size being ordered, or the item is no longer wanted or ordered in error, then collection can be arranged at a cost of £40.00. What do the WEEE regulations mean?

WEEE (The Waste Electrical and electronic Equipment) Directive is UK law that governs the disposal and recycling of all electrical items. The law, introduced in 2014, puts the emphasis on the producers and suppliers of electrical equipment to pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electricals.

As a retailer that sells new Electrical and Electronic products we will take back old items, provided it is a like-for-like replacement when you buy a new product from us. We will then responsibly dispose of the old product ensuring that it doesn’t end up in landfill.

Castelli Race Bags collection – first experience

Keeping track of cycling gear when going to a race or training camp can be a hassle. The Castelli race bag collection is constructed from incredibly strong and water resistant materials, smart design, and enough storage space to handle any contingency you might encounter.

The new range of luggage has been designed with cyclists in mind. All products in the range feature the company’s striking black and red livery and most have cyclist-specific features. We were sent a Rolling Travel Bag, Rolling Travel Bag XL, Gear Backpack, Gear Dufflebag, an Undersaddle Mini and an Undersaddle XL to check out.

ROLLING TRAVEL BAG Castelli describes the Rolling Travel Bag as “perfect for a weekend race trip”. At 35cm x 42cm x 25cm it’s small enough to be considered hand luggage with most airlines but with a capacity of 42 litres it also allows you to store a reasonable amount.

ROLLING TRAVEL BAG XL The Rolling Travel Bag XL is effectively a larger version of the Rolling Travel Bag with a handful of additional features. At 80 litres it has a considerably greater capacity than its smaller cousin and has reportedly been “designed for extended travel with features that will not only get you to your destination and back but will help you to organize, protect you gear from the elements and excessive baggage handling.”

The Rolling Travel Bag XL has an additional handle when compared with the smaller version (on the side) and there are a number of smaller pockets, including a small padded section which is perfect for storing valuables.

GEAR BACKPACK The Castelli Gear Backpack is “designed for everyday use” and has a “light, weather resistant construction” which, along with, “dual density 3D mesh padding” makes this back “comfortable and durable”, according to Castelli.

Like any good backpack Castelli’s offering has plenty of pockets for stashing various pieces of gear in, including a lightly padded laptop section. At 26 litres, though, the backpack’s capacity is rather limited.

GEAR DUFFLEBAG Castelli reportedly designed this dufflebag as “an overflow bag for a three-week stage race”. It features an “extra large top opening and internal mesh pockets.”

UNDERSADDLE MINI AND UNDERSADDLE XL Both the Undersaddle Mini and Undersaddle XL saddlebags feature covered zips which will help rain and wheel-spray from seeping in. The Mini is big enough to house a spare tube, multitool and some tyre levers, but not much more. The XL will allow you to store an additional spare tube and a minipump, the latter in an elasticised mesh section on the underside of the saddlebag.

Faulty Item

If the item you received is faulty, please contact us quoting your order number, your name and address, details of the product and the reason for return, and whether you require a refund or a replacement. We will then advise on how to proceed with the return. You have 30 days from receipt of the faulty item to notify us of your intent to return it and a further 30 days in which to do so.

Incorrect Item

If the item you received is not what you originally ordered, please contact us quoting your order number, your name and address, details of the product and the reason for return, and whether you require a refund or a replacement. We will then advise on how to proceed with the return.

All refunds will be given as soon as possible, and usually take the form of a refund transaction onto the card used for the original purchase. What you can and can’t pack in your hand luggage – from liquids to gadgets

It’s that time of year when many of us are jetting off on summer holidays.

From magical Malta to cost of living approved budget-friendly weekend breaks , we’ve got plenty of travel tips and guides if you’re still looking for inspiration.

But if you’ve not been abroad for a while, it’s not a bad idea to refresh your memory of what you can and can’t pack – particularly when it comes to hand luggage.

Airlines have very strict rules regarding what you can keep with you on a plane and what has to go in the hold in your suitcase.

To add to the confusion, UK airports are set to scrap the 100ml liquid hand luggage restrictions, but issues with next-generation scanners have caused widespread delays.

So, just what can you take in your hand luggage – and what is a no-no? Here’s what you need to know before you go…

What can you pack in your hand luggage?

It’s fine to take items such as liquids, food, electronics and medicine in your hand luggage – but there are certain rules around these which you will need to adhere to.

Restricted Hand Baggage Liquids Plastic Bag

While most liquids can be taken on board a plane, the quantity you’re allowed to take in your hand luggage is restricted

Cosmetics including creams, oils, lotions, perfumes and make-up such as mascara and lip gloss count as a liquid and are fine to bring, as are toiletries such as hairspray, shaving foam, toothpaste, shower gel and contact lens solution.

E-cigarettes and vapes also fall into this category, but must be taken in hand luggage – it is not permitted to put these items into the hold.

Currently, there are certain rules you need to adhere to when it comes to liquids in your hand luggage:

Containers must hold no more than 100ml
Containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
You must be able to fit the contents comfortably inside the bag and seal it
The bag must be sealed, not tied or knotted at the top
Only one plastic bag per person
The bag must be shown at the airport security point

There are some exemptions to the above, which include:

Essential medicines, including liquid dietary food and inhalers : You can find out more information about what you can take on board in this instance on the Government website. You will need supporting documentation for this, such as a prescription or a doctor’s letter.

Baby food and milk : There is no limit to how much you can take, although you should check with your airline to see what their requirements are.

You can take breast milk onboard in containers of up to 2,000 ml – even if you’re not travelling with a baby. However, you can’t take frozen breast milk in your hand luggage.

Once again, you can find more information about allowances and what you can and can’t take onboard on the Government website.

Duty-free items : If you buy anything larger than 100ml in the airport you can take it on board with you, as long as the items are sealed inside a security bag, and the receipt is sealed in the bag and visible.

What’s changing to the airport liquids rule?

In a recent announcement , the UK government said it is planning a deadline of August 2024 for airports to bring in new technology to scan passenger bags.

This was initially supposed to take place in 2022, but was pushed forward to June 1, 2024 and delayed once again after problems with the new 3D scanners, which work in a similar way to CT scanners used in hospitals.

Once this become the new norm, travellers will be able to leave liquids in their cabin bags (up to 2 litres), in addition to all their electrical items.

Any kind of solid food product such as sandwiches or snacks is generally permitted as long as no other passenger has allergies – so, if you’re planning on taking nuts onboard, for example, you might want to double-check this with your airline first.

Liquid or semi-liquid food (such as jam and honey) falls under the rules governing liquid on planes – that only 100ml maximum can be taken in hand luggage – and you would need to follow the above procedure of storing items in a clear plastic bag.

Electronics

There are only certain electronic devices you can take in your hand luggage, which are as follows:

Mobile phone
Tablet devices
Travel iron
Electric shaver
E-cigarettes
Hair dryer/straighteners
Cameras (although some specialist equipment may not be allowed in hand luggage)

You should make sure your devices are charged before you travel, as if it does not switch on when requested you may be stopped from taking it on board.

Sports equipment

The majority of sports equipment cannot be taken on board a plane, and will need to be checked into the hold.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, including sports parachutes, tennis racquets, billiards cues and fishing rods.

Once again though, you should check with your airline before you travel.

Can you take tweezers in your hand luggage?

Yes, you can.

As well as similar items like nail clippers and a nail file.

Can you take scissors in hand luggage?

You might be surprised to hear, but you can take scissors aboard.

You can bring on small scissors (with blades no longer than 6cm) and round-ended or blunt scissors for crafting, as well as other artsy bits that might help the journey fly by.

What can’t you take in your hand luggage?

There are many items that are not allowed in your carry-on luggage, generally including weapons or work tools.

Prohibited items include the following:

Oxidisers and organic peroxides, including bleach and car body repair kits
Acids and alkalis (for example spillable ‘wet’ batteries)
Corrosives or bleaching agents (including mercury and chlorine)
Vehicle batteries and fuel systems
Self defence or disabling sprays (for example mace, pepper spray)
Radioactive materials (including medicinal or commercial isotopes)
Poisons or toxic substances (for example rat poison)
Biological hazards (for example infected blood, bacteria, viruses)
Materials that could spontaneously combust (burst into flames)
Fire extinguishers

You also cannot take guns or firearms in hand luggage, although you may be able to take them in your hold luggage – once again check with your airline about this.

This rule includes the following items:

Blasting caps
Detonators and fuses
Imitation explosive devices (including replica or model guns)
Mines, grenades, and other explosive military stores
Fireworks and pyrotechnics
Smoke canisters
Smoke cartridges
Plastic explosives (including black powder and percussion caps)
Hand grenades
Gun cigarette lighters

Fireworks, flares, and knives or scissors with blades longer than 6cm are also not permitted in the cabin.

You can have one lighter on board, which must be put in your sealed plastic bag.

If you’re unsure about anything, always check with your airline before you travel, as anything in your hand luggage which you are not allowed to take on board could be confiscated by security.

Does Wrapping Your Luggage Make It More Secure? TSA Weighs In

Here’s what you should know before wrapping your luggage for your next flight.

It’s a common sight at any airport around the world — wrapping stations offering “additional protection” at a cost. The price can vary anywhere from $15 to $30 or more, with the more expensive options typically offering some sort of travel insurance. Most people wrap their luggage because they feel it’s safer, but is this true? I spoke with Saraiah Davis, transportation security manager, and Lorie Dankers, a spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), to find out.

How TSA Handles Wrapped Luggage

Your suitcase has quite the journey from the baggage counter to your aircraft. When you check your bag at a U.S. airport, it goes through an explosive detection system. This is a 3D scanner that can identify anything that could be a potential explosive. “If the technology flags the bag, the 3D X-ray image is sent to a TSA officer to review,” explains Dankers. “TSA officers look at hundreds of X-ray images, so they know what common items look like on the X-ray screen.” The technology doesn’t single out any bags that have been wrapped, so that won’t prevent a bag from being opened if it does get flagged.

After reviewing the image, the officer can either clear it and send the bag to the airline or flag it for a physical inspection. Only 5 percent of bags are opened for physical inspection, so it’s a much smaller number than you might think. In the physical inspection, the officers will open up the suitcase by any means necessary. If your bag is wrapped, the wrapping will need to be cut to do the examination. Davis explained that all baggage inspection rooms have CCTV cameras with heavy accountability, so there’s never a concern about theft.

When wrapped baggage is cut for inspection, it doesn’t get rewrapped. The wrapping will either get thrown away or taped together, but it won’t be the same as it originally was. Davis says that most bag wrapping typically occurs on international flights, as travelers want that added layer of protection. Sometimes, bags are in bad condition and are wrapped to keep them together. If one of these bags needs to be opened and cannot safely reach the final destination, the TSA will contact the airline to notify the passenger about the status of their bag and where to retrieve it.

Bottom Line

It’s generally not recommended to wrap your bag, as it doesn’t provide any substantial benefits that can justify the added cost. If you want extra protection for your luggage while it’s in transit, you should purchase a suitcase with a TSA-approved lock . This way, if your suitcase needs to be opened for whatever reason, they can do so easily. The only real benefit wrapping your bag could offer is protection against regular wear and tear, and this is only a real concern if you want to keep your suitcase looking brand-new. Otherwise, stick with a TSA-approved lock and enjoy your summer travels.
