Kasol is what they call is the stoners Paradise or smokers Paradise. Kasol is the relaxing getaway for people coming here. The town hasn’t  got monuments or other such sightseeing points but the natural beauty that the heart craves for, is in abundance. You need to walk in order to commute here. Kasol is also known to be as the mini Israel of Himachal Pradesh because of the many Israeli inhabitants one can see there. The sign boards of many cafes and restaurants are in Hebrew. The food that you get here is to die for. You have options from Israeli, Italian, Indian cuisines. One should not leave the place before trying the famous food and desserts. Also, one can also try the famous rice beer. So today I am going to bring you the list of Top 7 best places to visit in and around Kasol.

manikaran

Manikaran is a holy destination in the Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh along the banks of river Parvati. This place lies at an distance of 34km from Bhuntar (nearest airport) and lies at distance of 4km from Kasol which is also referred to as mini Israel . Manikaran is holy center for both Hindus as well as Sikhs. The legendary tales states that once the wife of lord Shiva, Parvati dropped her earings in the spring of Manikaran which led to the uprising of hot water from the place. On the other hand Sikhs believe that the third Udasi, Guru Nanak Dev Ji came to this place in 1574 with his disciples.

After some time one of his disciple felt hungry. So they went to collect food but the only problem was that there was no fire to cook. Then Guru Nanak lifted the stone in Manikaran and the spring of hot water came out of the earth Surface. So if you are planing a trip to Kasol then Manikaran is the must visit place in Kasol. Here you can stay and have food in Gurudwara without any cost.

temple of malana

Malana is beautiful and peaceful village situated in the adjacent of Parvati valley. This village has long been hidden in the laps of Himalayas beholding some untold stories and secrets. Malana is a village which lies in close proximity to Kasol and everyone knows why it is so famous. Yes definitely it’s the M cream or the Malana cream. You can hire a taxi to get to Malana from Kasol or Jari. But I will recommend you to trek to this place as the trek will offer you some exhilarating scenic views of the snow capped mountains and the gurgling Parvati river. The cultivation of the famous Malana cream makes it very popular. The village is a little isolated from the rest of the world and has its own unique rules and regulations.  So If you are looking to explore something new and unexplored around Kasol then Malana is the perfect option.

tosh village

It is a village situated at the farther end of the valley and is the last stop of the bus route. It is at height of about 7874ft above sea level. The distance is around 20kms from Kasol and is considered as one of the most beautiful place around kasol. You need to get to Varshaini from where you can either trek your way up to tosh or hire a taxi or the other way is to first explore Kasol and then you can hire a taxi to Tosh from Kasol. Tosh is a beautiful place at the top of a hill with majestic mountains all around.

The place is flooded with hippies. The spectacular landscape that you will witness from up there will definitely make your heart skip a beat. So if you are looking out for some trekking options around Kasol then Tosh can be one great option apart from Malana and Chalal.

If you ask me then I can say that Tosh is among the best place you can visit in or around Kasol.

Read: why you should not visit Kasol

tosh mountain

It is a small village near Kasol. It is an easy trek and you can casually walk your way there for about in 30 minutes only. It is a perfect place deep into the wood for the psychedelic parties. The parties are hosted by the world class DJs during the music festival. Chalaal is also one of the places which is well known for its Hash. Chalaal is great to relax and has some amazing cafes with great food. Rave party is one of the top things to do in Kasol.

These parties involve unrestrained fun, music, boozing, and just chilling out. Recently these parties have got embroiled by controversies due to the number of cases of drunken brawls and drug consumption. But still they are the best so if you are planning to visit kasol make your visit around April and May because maximum number of parties take place during this time. Hence I would say that Chalal is one the must visit places around Kasol.

Bijlimahadev

best place to visit

Bijli Mahadev is a Kash style temple that has Shiva linga. This beautiful temple is situated at a distance of 14 km from Kullu town and 64 Km from Kasol. One can reach Kullu first and then get a bus from the bus stand for Bijli Mahadev which goes up to the nearby ‘Chansari’ village . Otherwise one can book a private cab from the Kasol. One has to climb stairs from ‘Chansari’, the distance being about 3 km uphill. You get to see a panoramic view of Parvati and Kullu valley from this peak. When you turn around, there are no higher peaks to block your view in the close proximity.

So if you are looking for the places to visit around Kasol then I believe that Bijli Mahadev can be one great option. The beautiful trekking experience and the perfect view of snow capped mountains will make your heart skip a beat. The best time to visit Bijli Mahadev is around the month of Savann.

Dechen- choekhor- Monastery (Sarabai)

Dechen- choekhor- Monastery (Sarabai)

Dechen- Choekhor Monastery is beautiful Tibetan monastry in village Sarabai, tehsil Bhuntar, district Kullu. This monastery lies at a distance of 4 km from bhuntar and 37 km from Kasol. One may find resemblance of all the Tibetan monasteries to be similar but each monastery has its own story to tell. The opulent and unique architecture of this monastery is worth admiring tourist not only from India but also from abroad come to visit this amazing yet peaceful destination. So if you are planning a trip to Kasol then you can definitely make a pit stop at Dechen- Choekhor monastery as this lies on the way to Kasol.

hot water bath kheerganga

Kheerganga is situated at an altitude of 2960m approximately. 12km trek to kheerganga falls under the easy category of difficulty level, half of which is normal walk till Rudranaag and another half is mild climb, covered with pine tress which soon opens to the meadows of kheerganga. The charm which kheerganga had, has been reduced. Factors that account for this may be lot of tourist attraction to this place which creates hustle and bustle and this hustle and bustle is due to two bollywood movies i.e. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Zindagi Milegi na Doobara which made every youngster of India a hell of a trekker,

I have visited Kheerganga number of times and it is among my favorite places around Kasol. The lush green meadows and the gurgling sound of water flowing along the trek is magical. So if you are planning a trip to Kasol then I would suggest you to never ever skip Kherganga from your travel list.

pulga village parvati valley

Pulga is beautiful and peaceful village situated in Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh. This village is situated at a height of 9498 feet above the sea level and at a distance of 17km from Kasol. In order to reach Pulga village one need to get a bus or rent a bike from Bhuntar, then one has to travel till Bharsheni from where the small walk or trekking will lead you into the village or you can even book a cab from Kasol. One has to walk down the dam construction and after 30-40 minutes of walk one can reach this opulent  village in Parvati valley. The first sight of village is amazing you are going to witness a cluster of wooden houses designed in very unique way. The houses are made in such a way that they could store wood for entire year. Due to heavy snowfall in winters it becomes very difficult for the people to collect fodder and wood for keeping themselves warm hence they collect wood before the winters starts.

In the center of the village a temple dedicated to lord Naryana is made which is there local deity. The most common thing which I have noticed in Parvati valley is that in every village temple of one or the other deity is built in the center of the village which act as an assemblage point for the local villagers.

So if you are ever planning a trip to Kasol then I will suggest you to definitely visit Pulga because it’s among my favorite places to visit around Kasol

rasol village parvati valley

Kasol is a name which everyone knows now a days but have you ever heard of Rasol. This beautiful village lies few kilometers from Kasol and takes around 2-3 hours of trekking to reach this village. To reach this village one need to travel from Bhuntar to Kasol and then head toward the famous bridge which connects Challal to Kasol. After 20 minutes of trekking small village challal comes from where 2-3 hours of further trekking leads to Rasol. The trek is not difficult, it is simple and easy hence a person of any age group can accomplish this trek. My only suggestion to you would be that never visit Kasol with your family members always visit this land of wanderlust with your buddies. On the way to Rasol you will spot number of sign boards leading your way by the sign Magic Rasol.

The food items are little costly in the village as compare to Kasol because the goods are carried manually without the use of any transportation method. The village have guest houses where one could stay and enjoy the calmness and peace offered by the nature. So if you are planning a trip to Kasol never ever skip this beautiful village from your wish list because it is among the top places to visit around Kasol.

Kalga Village

Top 7 places you can't afford to miss in South Korea

Ann Babe

Feb 20, 2024 • 6 min read

Two young women, from Poland and Israel, pause for a selfie while hiking the Gwaneumsa Trail in Hallasan National Park. Located on Jeju Island, Hallasan is the highest mountain in South Korea.

It may be small, but South Korea packs a punch, from supersonic cities to hiking on Jeju Island © Joel Carillet / Getty Images

Though it may be fun-size compared to its neighbors China and Russia, South Korea more than holds its own when it comes to incredible landscapes, cultural attractions and a dazzling food and nightlife scene.

In fact, South Korea's size paired with its ultra-reliable public transit system is what makes it all so accessible. Travelers can go from mountaintop to beachside or from village to megacity – and back again – in a single day. Not that we recommend rushing your journey – with so many unique places to visit, you could dedicate an entire trip to one spot. Start your travel to-do list now with our seven favorite places to visit in South Korea.

Best place for nightlife

Home to half of South Korea's population, Seoul  is also the most popular city for tourists to visit. The capital has an electric vibe at any hour of the day or night. Between the city's low-key watering holes, high-end cocktail lounges and always-fun noraebang (karaoke bars), Seoul has something to offer every late-night reveler.

Some of the newest trendsetting bars are located in Euljiro, while many longstanding favorites are in the tried-and-true nightlife neighborhoods of Gangnam , Hongdae and Itaewon . Gangnam is where the most expensive clubs are concentrated, while Hongdae is a more affordable option for budget-conscious travelers and university students. Itaewon has a reputation for drawing an international crowd.

Various fish stalls and colourful umbrellas at Jagalchi Fish Market, Busan's most famous tourist attraction

Best place for maritime culture

Situated on the southern coast, South Korea's second city, Busan , overflows with a maritime culture as lively as it is varied. Setting the tone is Busan Port, the oldest and largest in the country (and also the sixth-busiest in the world), handling some 80% of South Korea's container cargo. The nearby Busan Modern History Museum tells the story of the port's pivotal role in South Korea's history. From there, up and down the coastline are any number of beautiful beaches, parks, observatories, villages and even a temple, Haedong Yonggungsa , one of the country's only oceanside temples.

At Jagalchi , South Korea's largest fish market, the day's catch is arranged in stall after stall of fish, eel, crabs, sea squirts, abalone, and more. Shoppers can select their seafood on the ground level and then take it up to one of the restaurants on the floors above, where the staff will expertly de-scale, de-shell, gut or filet and then cook it for you. For other scrumptious seafood bites, look for restaurants along the beach specializing in jogae gui , grilled shellfish served with a variety of dipping sauces like chogochujang (vinegar red pepper sauce), soy sauce with wasabi, and melted butter with onions.

3. Gyeongju

Best place to discover ancient treasures

As the capital of the Silla Kingdom, when the city was called Donggyeong ("eastern capital"), Gyeongju is a treasure trove of ancient relics, religious to royal. Gyeongju National Museum houses a fair number of them – including ornate jewelry, earthenware jars, prayer bells and Buddha statues – but even more artifacts lie beyond. Gyeongju is known as South Korea's museum without walls.

See the royal tombs of Tumuli-gongwon ; the oldest astrological observatory in East Asia, Cheomseongdae ; the Buddhist grotto of Seokguram ; the picturesque palace of Donggung; and the temple halls, pagodas and bridges of Bulguk-sa . Woljeonggyo, a covered wooden bridge with striking red columns, green roof beams and two end towers, might be the prettiest bridge in all of South Korea – even more so at night when it's illuminated with lights.

Best place for contemporary history

Regarded as the birthplace of Korean democracy, Gwangju was the site of the May 18 Democratic Uprising of 1980, the 10-day-long armed resistance against Chun Doo-hwan's authoritarian military regime. After the brutal repression of some 600 university student protesters, the people of Gwangju stood up and joined in rebellion, resulting in state massacre and torture. Despite the movement's suppression, it's seen as a turning point in South Korea's struggle for democracy.

To better understand this pivotal event in the country's history, go to the May 18th Memorial Park and National Cemetery . You can also take a walk down Chungjang-ro, a now-converted shopping and entertainment street that was once ground zero of the uprising.

Best place for beaches and waterfalls

South of the Korean mainland in the Yellow Sea, Jeju-do  is blessed with a balmy subtropical climate, making it the country's most popular vacation destination. The island is in such high demand that the flight between Seoul and Jeju City is the busiest air route in the world. Just one glimpse of Jeju's glittering white-sand and black-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters and volcanic topography of calderas, cones and tuffs, and it's easy to see why so many mainlanders flock to the island for a bit of R&R.

While Jeju's beaches make the perfect natural setting for lounging oceanside with a book and a cocktail, the island has plenty more to do than just relax. Aside from climbing the country's tallest mountain, Hallasan, outdoors adventure seekers can go surfing at Woljeongri or Jungmun beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving at Munseom Island, spelunking in the Geomunoreum Lava Tube System, waterfall chasing at Jeongbang Pokpo or Cheonjiyeon Pokpo , or tewoo rafting aboard a traditional Jeju boat at the Soesokkak Estuary.

6. Gangwon-do

Best place for winter sports

The site of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Gangwon-do is home to the best ski resorts in South Korea. For skiing and snowboarding, head to top-rated Yongpyong , the country's oldest and largest ski resort, or High1 , featuring a casino and revolving restaurant. Other popular options are Phoenix Park, Vivaldi Park and Alpensia.

The frosty fun doesn't stop there – Gangwon also hosts several winter festivals, including the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival , where participants can try ice fishing, curling or sledding, and the Taebaeksan Snow Festival , which puts on enormous ice sculpture and ice fountain displays.

Locals perform a traditional Korean mask dance in Andong's Hahoe Village

Best place for celebrating folk traditions

The capital of Gyeongsangbuk-do , Andong is also referred to as "the capital of Korean spirit." It is the country's Confucian culture capital, where you'll find traditional wooden masks and soju, the Korean national drink. At Andong's UNESCO-listed Hahoe Folk Village , the most famous folk village in South Korea, visitors can immerse themselves in the old Joseon-era way of life. Peek inside the village's workshops and its special choga homes, distinguished by their straw-thatched roofs, and even book an overnight stay in a guesthouse.

At the Hahoe Mask Museum , you can view the region's quintessential masks, carved into animated expressions to portray characters like aristocrats, servants and monks. Every fall at the Andong Maskdance Festival , you can see them in action in play performances. You can also tour notable Confucian academies, try traditional soju (local vodka) at the Soju Museum or a local restaurant, and sample Andong's signature soy-braised chicken dish, jjimdak .

Places to Stay In and Near Yellowstone National Park: The Best Cabins, Hotels, and Lodges

By Emily Pennington

23 Places to Stay In and Near Yellowstone National Park

This gallery has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Yellowstone National Park  is the birthplace of “America’s best idea,” the first national park in the world, and routinely one of the most-visited in the country. The park itself sits atop a highly active supervolcano and is home to the highest concentration of geothermal features on the planet (think powerful geysers, steamy hot springs, and bubbling mudpots). It’s also a fantastic place to spot charismatic megafauna in the wild—wolves, grizzly bears, and bison all reside here.

With so many spectacular sites, it’s no wonder that in-park lodging, including camping, can fill up  six months to one year in advance . Plus, these historic sites often lack the soothing spa treatments and luxe creature comforts that many travelers look forward to after a day of hiking and geyser gazing. Luckily, there are still plenty of options if you’re looking for places to stay in Yellowstone—close to the park and full of great amenities.

Below, you’ll find a list of our all-time favorite Yellowstone National Park lodging hubs and vacation rentals, from gorgeous  glamping sites  to rustic resorts to secluded cabins.

Top places to stay in Yellowstone at a glance:

  • Best for families: Paradise Lodge near Yellowstone
  • Best for views: The Cargill-Earl Guesthouse
  • Best for skiing: Hotel Terra Jackson Hole
  • Best affordable stay: Bridger View Bunkhouse
  • Best for couples: Sunrise Silo

Historic Corktown's dining gems: 18 places to eat near Michigan Central Station

kasol nearest places to visit

When the Michigan Central Station invites the public for a peek at the iconic train station in its renovated glory, Corktown restaurants and bars, new and old, will be ready to welcome those customers to a seat at their tables.

In Corktown, well-known as one of the trendiest Detroit neighborhoods, diners will find great barbecue, burger places, craft beer, pizza, and ethnic cuisines.

Corktown is the city’s oldest existing neighborhood. It’s known for its charm with some cobblestone streets and old Victorian-style homes, giving it a small-town feel while offering a wealth of eateries.

More: Michigan Central concert: Behind the scenes as a Detroit music spectacular came together

While Corktown is a dining hot spot with a diverse mix of eateries, many credit Slows Bar BQ opening as the catalyst for putting Detroit's oldest existing neighborhood in the culinary spotlight. Soon after its 2005 opening, Slows was the talk of the town with chef Brian Perrone at the helm churning out deftly smoked ribs, smoked pork and smoked chicken sandwiches plus creamy sides of mac and cheese.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Other restaurants, such as Nemo’s Bar, a Corktown favorite now for 60 years, did exist before Slows. Before Mudgie’s opened in 2008, the space was home to Eph McNally's Sandwich Shoppe. Named after Ephram McNally, the grandfather of the building’s owner, the sandwich shop opened in 1996. In the early ‘80s, the space housed another deli.

Plenty of restaurants and other establishments have opened since Slows, including Cork & Gabel, which was in the making in 2018, when Ford announced it bought Michigan Central Station.

More: Michigan Central Station reopening: Everything you need to know

Matthew McGrail, Cork and Gabel executive chef, said he and Joe Mifsud, the restaurant and building owner, found out halfway through the restaurant's build-out, the train station had a new owner.

“Like everyone, we were in shock and surprised,” McGrail said. “We always knew whoever was going to buy, it was going to big. We didn't know it was Ford.”

With Ford as the new owner of the train station, a win-win was in the back of McGrail’s mind, though they still had a restaurant business to run and had to weather storms, including the stresses of the pandemic.

Cork and Gabel’s back parking lot, McGrail said, is about 100 yards from the train station.

Best places to eat in metro Detroit: Nearly 100 restaurants chosen by Free Press critics

“It’s nice to have Ford as a neighbor … it’s all terrific that’s for sure," he said.

Here is a small sampling of restaurants and bars that now dot the Corktown landscape:

Alba Coffee

2124 Michigan Ave.

This coffee shop inspired by the diverse coffee cultures from around the U.S., including Detroit, and globally, opened late last year. Its name in Spanish means “dawn,” owner and native Californian David Valdez says. While Alba offers a great selection of coffee and coffee drinks, its breakfast items, from croissants to egg sandwiches and burritos, also shine. Not to miss is the fluffy egg sandwich ($7.50) with cheese and a slather of an aioli that’s kissed with a hint of spicy chile de arbol, sprinkled with fresh chives and nestled on a lightly griddled brioche bun.

1426 Bagley St.

This newcomer to Corktown is housed in the former Lady of the House space on Bagley and Trumbell streets. Alpino, lauded for its Alpine region-inspired menu, was named the 2024 Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Restaurant of the Year. Its cuisine draws from several countries that thrive on the elements of the Alps. There are selections of cheeses and meat, including the famed French raclette, fish and meats.

Batch Brewing

1400 Porter St.

Batch’s outdoor, covered pavilion is a great gathering spot to enjoy beer and its specialty food items, including its smoked chicken wings, smoked cauliflower and house-made pretzels served with aged cheddar sauce and spicy brown mustard. Many of the food items come from Batch Brewing Yellow Dog Craft BBQ and its three on-site smokers fueled with oak, owner and pitmaster Stephen Roginson says.

Ima Izakaya

2100 Michigan Ave.

Ransom went on to open Ima in Madison Heights, which earned the 2019 Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Restaurant of the Year. In 2021, Ima announced it was moving. Luckily for Corktown, Ima stayed in the neighborhood, moving just across the street in the former Gold Cash Gold restaurant. Ransom expanded the menu and billed it as an izakaya, a Japanese hangout for diners socializing over food and drinks. Ima offers an extensive menu, including items cooked on its robata grill.
