Remember the Alamo Through Interactive, Virtual Tours

alamo virtual tour

The Alamo is now offering interactive virtual tours so you can explore the grounds safely from the comfort of your own home.

A tour guide will show you around the historical site via Zoom for an hour, and you’ll be able to chat with them and ask questions.

You’ll learn all about the Alamo’s 300-year history, from being a Spanish mission in the 1700s to the site of the famous Battle of the Alamo in 1836.

The staff and tour guides will be practicing social distancing during the tours, which are available daily from 10 AM to 1 PM.

You can purchase tickets on their website for just $10.

If you want to visit in person, the Alamo has also reopened to the public. You can take a free self-guided tour of the grounds from 9 AM to 5:30 PM and visit the gift shop from 10 AM until closing.

View this post on Instagram Though you cannot tell it from this photo, it is currently 61° – a very welcome break from the high temperatures we've had this summer! If you'd like to take advantage of the cooler weather and visit us today, don't forget to get your timed entry pass online before your visit **link in bio** A nice stroll through the back gardens does not require a ticket 🙂 A post shared by The Alamo (@officialalamo) on Sep 10, 2020 at 6:17am PDT

The Alamo Church has reopened using a free timed reservation system to keep things COVID-safe. The Alamo is also requiring visitors to wear a mask while onsite and encouraging everyone to practice social distancing.

Rumor has it that they just got some new replica cannons, so we can’t wait to visit and check them out!

Why this is COVID-safe

  • Virtual tours using Zoom allow you to tour the museum at home
  • Face coverings are required for both visitors and staff
  • Limited capacity following local and state regulations
  • Staff travel has been limited to avoid bringing the virus in from other parts of the country or world

View this post on Instagram Though the Alamo remains closed, this week we'd like to help anyone who is planning a San Antonio #staycation later this year. First up – What is your advice for anyone who is planning to visit the Alamo? Is there an interesting bit of history that you'd like for them to know? The Alamo reopens for limited in-person tours during COVID-19

KTRK logo

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KTRK) -- While virtual tours of the Alamo were offered through Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has now reopened for in-person tours.

SEE RELATED STORY: Remember the Alamo through virtual tours on Zoom

In-person tours started Thursday, Sept. 3.

"Due to capacity limits set by the state and city because of COVID, we have to be careful about how many people are in the buildings at one time," representatives wrote in a Facebook post .

Usually, on a busy day, they would see up to 15,000 visitors. Now, that's not the case because of social distancing rules.

There are step-by-step guidelines on how to reserve a timed entry pass on the Official Alamo website .

"This is a way to keep things organized and numbers manage," they wrote.
