Tobacco is an electronic musician hailing from Pennsylvania, United States. After coming to prominence as the frontman of the band Black Moth Super Rainbow, he began a solo career in 2008 and has since released three studio albums along with three extended plays.

Coming out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States in 2003, Black Moth Super Rainbow soon picked up a reputation for being one of the strangest bands in the world of indie rock. After five years spent plying their brand of deeply experimental folk-tronica their frontman, a man called Thomas Fec who performed under the name Tobacco, decided to embark on a solo career. Maybe supporting The Flaming Lips while playing songs called “When The Sun Grows On Your Toung” just wasn't weird enough for him. Fec retained the stage name Tobaccco for the release of his debut solo album “F*cked Up Friends” (we at Songkick put the asterisk in), which came out on Anticon in October 2008, and was immediately hailed as one of the best releases of the year by publications from Rolling Stone to Exclaim!.

Tobacco's stoner-rock-via-classic-hip-hop sound made him friends in a lot of high places, from Pitchfork premièring the lead single from his second album “Maniac Meat” to the same record featuring guest appearances from Beck himself on the tracks “Fresh Hex” and “Grape Aerosmith”. Clearly, any artist that can act as the link between such disparate artists as Beans, Aesop Rock, the aforementioned Beck and the makers of the HBO series Silicon Valley (who've used a number of his songs in the show) is something very special indeed. However, to achieve all that respect while playing music that is proudly experimental and genuinely esoteric? That's the sign of someone truly one of a kind. For that reason, Tobacco comes highly recommended.

I forgot how weird Tobacco was. Black Moth Super Rainbow seems downright accessible by comparison. The set began with a minutes-long clip of the Jerry Springer Show, featuring a cuckolded Taco Bell employee with a distinct Pittsburgh accent. The sound was alien, but that's not the weird part with Tobacco (or BMSR). The visuals projected onto the screen past the act were, on balance, bizarre. Grainy footage from strange, forgotten television programs. Vintage porn, girls blowing bubble gum bubbles, red and white static. The full length of the video for Streaker (Eric Wereheim) - really horrific. By the end of the set, you could be sure that only the weirdos were left listening to the music. But that isn't a bad thing. -- Tobacco makes great music. Tobacco is weird.

Good openers, great show. I've seen TOBACCO several times before, both solo and with BMSR. He always sounds awesome and puts on a dope show. I love the visuals he uses for his performances, an all around cool experience.

• If you use a rideshare service or get dropped off at Kentucky Expo Center, note the route to shelter in Freedom Hall.
• If you are camping, please place all non-tethered items in your vehicle before departing for the festival. During inclement weather, campers should seek shelter in their vehicle and NOT inside a tent. There are permanent structures available at the campgrounds that are designated as a safe place to shelter. These locations are noted on the camping map. In the event of inclement weather or any other emergency, campers will be notified via the campgrounds PA system and staff will be available to direct campers as needed.

• No alcohol for minors. You must be 21+ to drink within the campgrounds. If entering with alcohol, you must present government - issued identification. 21+ campers are advised to carry their government-issued identification at all times.
• No drones or remote control vehicle
• No vending of any kind (food, drinks, merchandise, etc.)
• No loose pills, pills without a prescription, or expired medications of any kind (all medications, prescription or otherwise, must be in their original container)
• No pets (except service animals)
• No mirrors (handheld or permanent within camping vehicle ok)
• No spray paint
• No promotional flyers, promotional/corporate branded banners, or vehicles displaying sponsorships or ads
• No weapons of any kind (including but not limited to dinner knifes, pocket knives, pepper spray, etc.) or items that could be used as weapons (including but t limited to hammers, golf clubs, etc.)
• No tiki torches
• No professional recording equipment—photo, video or audio (detachable lenses, tripods, big zooms, gopros or commercial-use rigs)
• No fireworks
• No open campfires or fires/flames of any kind (small propane grills ok)
• No golf carts, bikes, dune buggies, off-road motorcycles, segways, or hover boards
• No speaker systems
• No air horns
• No box trucks, cube trucks, 4-wheelers, utility trailers or oversized flatbeds
• No metal stakes (plastic stakes okay)
• No propane tanks over 16oz that are not attached to an rv unit.
• No generators that are larger than 4kw (unless factory installed in your rv)
• No helium tanks
• Thursday – Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
• Access Center – distributing ADA Access wristbands and answering questions from patrons with disabilities.
• Access Platforms – staffing the viewing platforms to host the ADA patrons.
• Info Booth/Lost & Found – staff the info booth answering questions from patrons and assisting with the Lost & Found program.

Tobacco City's debut album out today – Tobacco City, USA — mixes cosmic country with psychedelic choogle, but "Never On My Mind"... well, that's where the honky tonk meets the soul revue. Like the Chicago band's namesake, a slow smoke hangs in the air, heavy with heartbreak and feather-blue eyeshadow, but puts a brave face on. Lexi Goddard sings with a far-away look over a pedal-steel cries, a melody that sways to country songs on jukeboxes of yore. The pained refrain of the song's title is punctuated by the backing vocals by guitarist Chris Coleslaw and bassist Eliza Weber at the chorus, their "You / Were / Never on mind" a little less sure each time.

Tobacco City is about simplicity. Simple songs and melodies built around nostalgic and blue stories. Built out of a mutual love of classic and cosmic country, the members of Tobacco City bring their psychedelic and folk influences to the exploding genre. Duke Arts at American Tobacco — Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. & The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band Sept 11

American Tobacco Campus , 318 Blackwell Street, Durham, will once again be the site for live music, and once again, the shows are free to the public. The concerts take place every Wednesday in September, 2024, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The series is from Duke Arts Presents in partnership with American Tobacco Campus.

No tickets or reservations are required. Bring your own chair, and visit pop-ups for drinks and dinner.

The amphitheater is the grassy area below the Lucky Strike water tower. Parking is available in three nearby decks.

Conjunto Breve Wednesday, September 4, 2024 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free

Multinational salsa band Conjunto Breve was founded by percussionist Brevan Hampden in 2012. Members of the band come from all corners of the Americas, including Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the United States. Mixing the sounds of New York-style salsa and Cuban salsa, Conjunto Breve’s members have played celebrated salsa musicians, including Celia Cruz, Tito Rojas, and Luis Enrique.

Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. & The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band Wednesday, September 11, 2024 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free

Sir Reginald Masters Dural (Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. or “Sir Reg”) is the son of Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr., an accordionist who founded the Grammy Award-winning Ils Sont Parti Band and became one of the few zydeco artists to achieve mainstream success. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps and now leads the Ils Sont Parti Band as their accordion frontman. Created by black musicians in rural southwest Louisiana in the early 1800s, zydeco attests to the resilience and vitality of the Creole community. Listen for hints of African, French, Spanish, Caribbean, and indigenous American traditions in this musical fusion.

Faith & Harmony/Dedicated Men of Zion Wednesday, September 18, 2024 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free

Gospel is one of the quintessential musical genres of the American South. The artists in tonight’s concert represent the true heart of this tradition: close-knit family groups who grew up singing together at church, driven by a love of music and faith.

Like their grandparents and parents before them, the women of Faith & Harmony began singing at their church in Greenville, NC when they were just toddlers. They officially formed the group in 2012 to solidify their commitment to carrying on the family’s musical legacy. The Dedicated Men of Zion is also steeped in the gospel of Eastern North Carolina. While their church background infuses their music, their 2020 release Can’t Turn Me Around was critically acclaimed by both sacred and secular audiences.

Music Maker Blues Revue Wednesday, September 25, 2024 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free

Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen shares the mettle, pathos, and ocean-deep compassion of blues singers like Billie Holiday and Etta James. Cohen was featured on PSB Newshour for her one-woman shows at nursing homes during the pandemic, bringing her talent and heart to the world. Albert White is a consummate blues guitarist who grew up playing behind his uncle, Piano Red, and would go on to share the stage with the likes of Ray Charles, Rufus Thomas, and The Tams. The tradition of high-energy, funky R&B lives on in his playing, immortalized in his two (soon to be three) albums on the Music Maker label.

Is Vans Warped Tour returning? YouTube channel says 'close sources' plan return in 2025

Is Warped Tour making a comeback?

YouTube rock news channel Rock Feed reports that the legendary Vans Warped Tour may be gearing up for a return in 2025, coinciding with the festival's 30th anniversary.

"Multiple sources close to the matter indicate that Warped Tour will celebrate its milestone with a series of festivals next year," Rock Feed host Brian Storm said. "The festival will now be managed by Live Nation, though founder Kevin Lyman is expected to remain significantly involved. Live Nation has yet to respond to our request for comment."

Still, it's only speculative for now, and there has been no official confirmation from organizers or Vans about the festival's return next year.

When did Warped Tour end?

Warped Tour announced its final season in 2018, marking the end of the nation’s largest traveling music festival and the longest-running music festival in North America.

However, the iconic festival had one more celebration in store. In 2019, Warped Tour returned for a special 25th Anniversary edition , though it was limited to just three locations: Pomona, California; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Dallas, Texas.

Many festivalgoers and fans felt misled by the 2019 announcement, as the 2018 Warped Tour was billed as the final cross-country tour. The festival’s return the following year, albeit in a reduced scope, led to some feeling that the earlier announcement was misleading.

Why are there potential issues with Live Nation?

Though excited about the festival's potential return, many fans are cautiously optimistic after the announcement that it will be managed by Live Nation.

The company has faced criticism in recent years for various issues, including controversies surrounding high ticket prices and its role in high-profile incidents like the 2021 Astroworld tragedy , where a crowd surge led to multiple fatalities and injuries during Travis Scott’s performance.

These controversies, along with ongoing concerns about ticket pricing and overall customer experience, have led to apprehension about how Live Nation's management might impact the festival.

"I was really happy about this till I saw Live Nation is involved. This is generational manipulation," one commenter wrote.

"Good news: Vans Warped Tour is back. Bad news: Live Nation is producing the tour which is not good considering that company has been criticized by fans over scamming fans on expensive ticket prices and so many controversies that damaged its reputation," another posted.

"Put on by Live Nation, the company that owns Ticketmaster. Yup, it's gonna suck for the old-school die-hards, and it'll be expensive as hell," wrote another.

Billy Joel has a new New York tradition.

For the second straight year, the “Piano Man” will headline Belmont Park, NY’s UBS Arena on New Year’s Eve.

This one-off gig will be the Rock Hall of Famer’s first arena show in New York since wrapping his legendary residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on July 25.

“Welcoming Billy Joel back to UBS Arena is the perfect way to celebrate what has been a hallmark year for the new venue,” UBS Arena Senior Vice President of Programming Mark Shulman said. “Capping off a stellar year that has featured legendary performers, marquee sporting events, and family shows with our hometown hero is the perfect way to ring in the new year.”

According to Set List FM , the 75-year-old New York native performed 30 songs at last year’s New Year’s Eve concert. In addition to the hits you know and love — “My Life,” “Movin’ Out,” “New York State of Mind” — he also mixed in a couple classic covers like “Start Me Up,” “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “Barbara Ann,” “Whole Lotta Love” and “All You Need Is Love.”

Grammy-nominated singer Regina Spektor showed up to close the show and duet with Joel on his 1980 classic “You May Be Right.”
