Jason Donovan was born in Melbourne Australia in 1968. His talent and good looks made him a natural on Australian TV. He was 9 when he took on his first professional acting role.

His break came with the role of scott robinson in ‘neighbours’ which turned him into an international star, gaining every australian major award including ‘most popular actor’. the series went onto to become one of the highest rating shows in the uk which led to jason’s association and huge success with acclaimed producers, stock, aitken and waterman. his debut album ‘ten good reasons’ was the biggest selling album of 1989 contributing to impressive career sales of 13 million albums and 4 uk no.1 singles. music was always a constant in jason’s life, as was his passion for acting and theatre. this combination became a natural transition for what was to become one of his definitive roles – olivier-nominated portrayal of joseph in andrew lloyd webber’s ‘joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat’ at london’s palladium. this sell out 18-month run in 1991 produced a number one single and best-selling soundtrack album, and is still known for being one of the most successful revivals of all time.  , jason has gone on to star in the rocky horror show, chitty chitty bang bang, priscilla, annie get your gun, sound of music, the king’s speech and million dollar quartet.  on television he has featured in i’m a celeb (2006) and strictly come dancing (2011), who do you think you are (2011), itv’s superstar (2012) and piers morgan’s life stories (2012). he also appeared in itv’s drama ‘echo beach’ (2008)., in 2016 jason embarked on his ten good reason’s tour, his first for 8 years. jason played 44 sold-out dates throughout the uk and a plethora of 80s festivals in the uk and europe over the summer., in feb 2018, jason embarked on his ‘amazing midlife crisis tour’ including 5 sold out nights at the edinburgh festival.  during a break in december 2018,  he found time to reprise his role of parson nathaniel for the war of the worlds  40th anniversary tour and was also announced as co producer for the priscilla queen of the desert tour, a behind the scenes role for him this time., in spring 2019, he completed his amazing midlife crisis tour after 110 dates around the uk and in this summer, returned to andrew lloyd-webber's production of joseph & his amazing technicolor dreamcoat at the london palladium playing the role of 'pharaoh' alongside sheridan smith who took the role of 'the narrator'. in december 2019, jason travelled to his hometown melbourne to star in the australian production of chicago playing the role of billy flynn, the defence attorney who can win any trial and usually represents women who have murdered their lovers., in early 2021 jason took part in itv's dancing on ice alongside professional partner, former doi champion alexandra schauman. in july, jason returned to the london palladium to star in joseph & his amazing technicolor dreamcoat as 'pharaoh' and in the autumn, jason took to the road for his first musical tour in five years. the 38 date tour, titled 'even more good reasons' saw jason and his band play in cities all over the uk & ireland with a set list including the entire ten good reasons album, sweet transvestite from his time in 'the rocky horror show' and 'suddenly' by angry anderson paying homage to his time in neighbours. when the even more good reasons tour finished in december, jason made his pantomime debut in goldilocks & the three bears at the birmingham hippodrome playing the evil ringmaster., in march 2022 it was announced jason would be joining the cast of 'grease the musical' playing 'teen angel for select performances at london's dominion theatre throughout the summer co-starring alongside fellow aussie, peter andre.  in may 2022, jason once again reprised his role as 'pharaoh' in the touring production of joseph & his amazing technicolor dreamcoat, in june jason performed 'any dream will do' outside the gates of buckingham palace as part of her majesty, queen elizabeth's platinum jubilee celebrations. that august, jason was part of a reunion that many people had waited more than thirty years to see. he, alongside kylie minogue rejoined the cast of 'neighbours' as scott and charlene for one final time as the world waved goodbye to ramsay street. throughout christmas 2022, after a hugely successful first panto season in 2021, jason became the evil ringmaster once again in goldilocks & the three bears, this time at the mayflower theatre in southampton., in january 2023, jason headed to his home country of australia to join the cast of the rocky horror show for the 50th anniversary production. he will once again, don his fishnets and heels to play frank n furter for the production's run in sydney and melbourne., in october 2023, jason released dates for his doin' fine 25 uk & ireland tour which takes to the road in february 2025. the tour promises to be a celebration of his career in music and theatre, and plays homage to his first ever tour, doin' fine 90. , in spring 2024, it was announce that the rocky horror show is coming to the uk with jason heading up the role of frank 'n' furter. the show runs across the uk throughout autumn 2024 and winter 2025..

Jason Donovan, Alexandra Burke join ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ UK tour

Jason Donovan and Alexandra Burke will reprise their roles in the forthcoming UK & Ireland touring production of ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’. 

Debuting at Manchester Opera House on Wednesday 23 March, Jason Donovan will reprise his role as Pharaoh, which he performed at the London Palladium in 2019 and 2021.

He was originally in the show when he made his defining stage performance as the title character of Joseph in the 1990s, in a sold-out 18-month run which produced a No.1 single and best-selling soundtrack album.

The role of Pharaoh will be played by Bobby Windebank at the venues across the tour where Jason Donovan does not perform.

Meanwhile, Alexandra will play The Narrator at select venues across the tour. Her many West End credits include the lead roles in The Bodyguard, Sister Act, Chess and Chicago, as well as starring as the Narrator in the celebrated production of Joseph at the London Palladium last summer.

Linzi Hateley will also play the role at other venues. 

Jac Yarrow prepares to don the famous coat in the titular role on tour, having caused a sensation when he made his professional stage debut playing Joseph, following in the footsteps of a line of stars who have previously played the title character. 

His portrayal of Joseph won him unanimous acclaim and an Olivier Award nomination, with his rendition of Close Every Door To Me regularly stopping the show with standing ovations.

Producer Michael Harrison says: “After two sensational runs at The London Palladium, I am delighted that this joyous show is now set to unite audiences and spread happiness across the UK & Ireland on tour.

Jason Donovan will star as Frank-n-Furter in the tour, with further casting to be announced.

On the way to visit an old college professor, two clean cut kids, Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss, run into tyre trouble and seek help at the site of a light down the road. It’s coming from the Frankenstein place, where Dr Frank’n’furter and Rocky Horror reside.

With a book, music and lyrics by Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Show made its world premiere in London in the 1970s and has gone on to become one of the world’s most popular and produced musicals.

Jason Donovan is thrilled to be embarking on a mammoth 52 date tour, which marks the 30th anniversary of his hugely successful debut album ‘Ten Good Reasons’. His ‘Even More Good Reasons’ tour will see Jason singing his greatest pop hits along with his favourite songs from his career in musicals, all accompanied by a full live band.

Songs will include the chart-toppers ‘Too Many Broken Hearts’, ‘Especially For You’ and ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and for the first time ever, Jason will be performing a selection of songs from the musicals he has starred in. These will include songs from ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ and ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’.

Jason commented: “Having not done my own live shows for a while I can’t wait to get out there again amongst my fans and deliver a new energetic show that is both personal, creative and reflective ... something that is both nostalgic and just a bloody good night out.”

Jason Donovan came into our lives in the late 1980s as Scott Robinson in the hit Australian series, ‘Neighbours’. His pop hits started emerging in 1988 and his album ‘Ten Good Reasons’ was the best-selling album of 1989.  His massive hits included ‘Too Many Broken Hearts’, ‘Especially For You’ (with Kylie Minogue), ‘Any Dream Will Do’, ‘Sealed With A Kiss’ and many more.

Jason Donovan will play Teen Angel and Peter Andre returns to the role made famous on the big screen by Edd Byrnes.

Jason Donovan and Peter Andre have been confirmed for a new production of Grease in London's West End.

Donovan, who describes himself as a "life long fan of the show", will play Teen Angel at certain performances for a six-week run at the Dominion Theatre.

"While I may have missed the boat on playing Danny, the Teen Angel seemed like the perfect fit," said Donovan.

"I especially look forward to those few performances I get to perform with Peter Andre as Vince Fontaine.

"Who would have thought two Aussie's would take to the West End in such a well-loved musical, singing the most iconic songs? Roll on June."

Andre has some history with Grease, having played both Teen Angel and radio announcer Fontaine in regional productions in the past.

The 'Mysterious Girl' singer will make his West End debut when he returns as Fontaine in certain performances alongside Donovan's Teen Angel.

Peter Andre said: "I'm beyond excited to be making my West End debut playing Vince Fontaine in Grease at the beautiful Dominion Theatre.

"Grease is such an iconic musical and we can guarantee audiences will have the most wonderful evening listening to songs we all know and love. We can't wait to see you there!"

Previews begin on May 3, 2022, with the show officially opening on May 17, 2022.

The new production of Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey's classic musical is directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips.

Performances run from Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm with Matinee performances on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm Tickets are priced from £15 and are available now.

The cast also includes Dan Partridge as Danny and Olivia Moore as Sandy, while Jocasta Almgill plays RIzzo and Paul French plays Kenickie.

Rounding out the main performers are Mary Moore (Jan), Jake Reynolds (Doody), Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly (Marty), Damon Gould (Sonny), Eloise Davies (Frenchie), Jessica Croll (Patty Simcox), Katie Lee (Cha Cha), Ronan Burns (Johnny Casino) and Corinna Powlesland (Miss Lynch).

Darren Bennett will play Officer Mailie, and at the performances where Peter Andre is unavailable, will also double up as Vince Fontaine.

Vince Fontaine was first played by Mike O'Connor in the original Chicago production of Grease , while Edd Byrnes took on the role in the hit 1978 movie.

Other big-name stars who have played Vince Fontaine over the years include The Monkees' Davy Jones on the 1994 US tour and Saved By The Bell 's Mario Lopez in 2016's Grease Live .

Richard O'Brien's Rocky Horror Show kicks off another West End run this weekend, starring none other than musical theatre legend Jason Donovan as Frank-N-Furter.

But, before the cult musical touch-a, touch-a, touches down on the London stage, we caught up with comedian and Taskmaster alumnus Mawaan Rizwan, who is set to make his musical theatre debut as the narrator.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com , Rizwan confirmed that audiences can expect a new "spin" from Donovan and the rest of the cast.

"[Jason's] great, and I love his take on the character. He’s been making some really artistically inventive choices, and it’s brilliant to see that in action."

He continued: "It’s his own thing, which I think audiences will really love."

Donovan recently took his "take" on Dr Frank-N-Furter – most famously played by Tim Curry in the 1975 film – to the Theatre Royal Sydney, where he earned stellar reviews.

But, for UK audiences, the Neighbours actor hasn't appeared in his famous fishnets for over 25 years – so the pressure is on.

However, Rizwan was confident in Donovan, who he dubbed a "musical theatre genius", and said that the whole cast were aware of the show's importance.

"Rocky Horror is an institution in itself, and it’s a really tricky balance, because you want to honour what the audience love about it but you also want to bring something new to it.

"I think the very cult classic moments are very much still in there, but the cast, just because of who they are, have a really unique take on it."

He went on to say that his version of the narrator was very much in this theme: "My take on the narrator is a bit different, and it’s really nice to be able to have fun within the parameters of what’s existed for decades."

The comedian teased that there would be plenty of audience interaction from him, and called that "the best part" of playing the narrator.

"Every night is going to be different for me. To have a direct line with the audience and not know what’s going to happen is very exciting for me, especially with my stand-up background."

Rizwan will be appearing in The Rocky Horror Show from Friday 6th to Friday 20th September at the Dominion Theatre.

When and where can I see Rocky Horror Show in the UK?

The Rocky Horror Show is knocking on London's door for just two weeks this September, from Friday 6th to Friday 20th.

But babies, don't you panic, because after that the show will be heading on tour across the UK, with over 30 venues booked in. For the full list of dates, head over to the official website .

The tour will run all the way until August 2025 - however, Jason Donovan will only be appearing until February 2025, and Mawaan Rizwan will be performing as the narrator for the London dates only.

Donovan, 55, originally shot to fame playing the character Scott Robinson from 1985 until 1989.

He, along with Kylie Minogue, who played his onscreen wife Charlene Robinson, returned to much fanfare when the episode aired in October 2022.

Speaking to The Standard about how he felt when he found out it was not in fact the last episode, he said: "I was surprised. I didn’t not expect it to come back in a way, I mean, I didn’t broadcast that, but I sort of felt that it probably could happen. Those reunions tend to happen.

"Neighbours changed my life.

"To have not been part of the spirit of the celebration of 36 years of an Australian TV show about suburban life that sort of made the world sit up and notice our country, and to not give a nod to that, wouldn’t have been in good spirit.

"I wanted to do that and I reached out to other people that I know, Kylie [Minogue], Guy [Pearce] and a few other people and said ‘maybe we should make this happen’. So if the net result is the rebirth of the show and give more people work as a result of the attention that it got, great.

"It was a nice nod and a nice little touch."

Pearce, who played mechanic Mike Young, returned once again for the reboot. Asked whether he too could be tempted back, Donovan said it's a definite "no".

"I unfortunately said no to that because I just felt it’s done. Neighbours for me is done," he added.

Another reason is logistics.

Donovan has lived in the UK for more than 30 years and while for the first half of 2024 he will be dividing his time between here and his native Oz playing Frank N Furter in the 50th anniversary tour of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, his life is very much here with his wife Angela Malloch and their three children, including actress daughter Jemma Donovan.

Asked whether he would ever consider moving back, he says he "wouldn’t rule it out," but "it’s not in my plans right now".

"I do love this country, and I do love being able to be so close to Europe and America if you want to go there. Australia is great too, I have options and I’m very lucky."The one-time Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing On Ice contestant will get to see more of the UK in the not too distant future as he will be hitting the road next year for a massive UK tour taking in 30 dates across the country.

The Nothing Can Divide Us hit-maker will kick off his Doin' Fine 25 Tour in February 2025, including stops at Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, and Birmingham.

He will even be returning to the London Palladium for one night only on March 3.

This guy is very different from what I expected to see. I saw a musician. Pianist. Music brain. Technician. Great performance. Great concert. Great light dance. Great spectacle. I really now expect his album, which he said is to be done soon.

Jason Donovan opens up on lifestyle change as he hopes to expand family soon

Jason Donovan has opened up about his new lifestyle change and how he hopes to have grandchildren soon.

The Australian superstar, 56, appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine Kelly’s ITV hit breakfast show, as he discussed his upcoming world tour where he landed the lead on Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical, The Rocky Horror Show.

Lorraine pointed out that the show holds an extra special place in Jason's heart as he met his wife, Angela Malloch, while on set.

Jason revealed that at the time, Angela was working as a stage manager. The pair struck up a friendship, which soon turned into romance and now stronger than ever.

Lorraine started by saying: “So the show, it really meant a lot to you because that’s where you met your wife.”

“Yes that’s where I met my wife,” Jason replied. “We’re still very strong so that’s another success story and she was a stage manager in 1998 and you know the rest is history.”

The couple opts to keep their personal life mostly on the down-low but we do know that they are proud parents to their three kids Jemma (born 2000), Zac (born 2001), and Molly (born 2011).

Speaking about his children, he admitted that he doesn’t have any grandchildren yet but it’s something he is looking forward to in the future.

He continued: “Three kids later. You know I don’t have grandchildren yet but maybe I don’t know” before asking Lorraine: “How old is your daughter?”

She revealed: “30," as Jason continued: “Well my oldest is 24 so you never know, I mean anything can happen.” Lorraine added: “Yes anything can happen.”

Elsewhere in the show, Jason went on to open up about his new lifestyle change explaining he recently changed his diet and cut out processed foods.

The star, who shot to fame after appearing in the Australian soap Neighbours, said: “I like to keep physically fit. I’ve changed my diet recently and I’m not eating processed foods, cut out coffee, and drinking a lot more water.”

He continued: “But I’m in my mid-50s - I mean how did that happen? I sit there and think ‘What that is pretty crazy.’” Turning to Lorraine, he said: “Well we are still here doing it.” Lorraine added: “Yes true we are and loving it.”

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and ITVX
