Just back from another amazing holiday

Just back from another amazing holiday. Third time we’ve booked using Travelnation and every time has been wonderful. Jim listened to what we wanted and our budget and helped us plan the trips of a lifetime- surprisingly good value too. Have holidayed with and without teenage kids and combined family from different locations and it all worked perfectly. Totally recommend.

Tanzania and Zanzibar

We cannot recommend Travel Nation highly enough. Our trip to Tanzania was flawless from start to finish. Our Safari was amazing and all the properties we stayed at were just gorgeous. Our agent Chis was so helpful and any questions were answered virtually immediately. We will use Travel Nation again for any future long haul trips.

I spoke to Olly to price up a RTW trip for myself and my family. He listened intently to our wish list of countries to visit and was knowledgeable enough to point out a tweak that would save us money by connecting through a different country. Olly quickly set about pricing the trip including flights, car hire, accommodation and trips. Within a day he had a quote e mailed across. Any amendments we requested were quickly added and cost adjusted accordingly. The viewing of the itinerary online enabled us to view it easily and also print it in pdf format. All in all Olly was fab to deal with.

Second to none experience

We booked our trip to Bora Bora with Travel Nation and the entire experience was excellent. From finding the appropriate destination, flights, resorts etc to the whole experience being there was second to none. David was very accommodating in giving us multiple options and and focusing on our needs. The pricing was significantly better than all the high street travel agents and the options were even more than what other would offer. Overall an excellent experience and we will be definitely going back for our next big trip.

Hi Spyros, Thank you for your lovely review, it’s much appreciated. I am so glad to hear your family had a fantastic time in French Polynesia visiting Bora Bora. It’s also great to hear we are ahead of our competitors and can offer you many more options to ensure you have the best trip. I look forward to organising many other trips for you in the future. Best wishes, [email protected] 01273 320578

Excellent service from start to finish.

From start to finish Ruth Koessel offered ideas and solutions that not only improved our overall experience, they saved us money. Knowing there was someone available to help with problems, should they occur (they didn’t), during our around the world trip removed any worries that would have been inevitable. It was an excellent service from a clearly very knowledgeable lady. Thanks Ruth.

The Best Honeymoon

From start to finish, Travel Nation provided a high quality service with a personal touch. We were lucky to have Tracey as our travel consultant, and after one 30 minute zoom call of getting to know us, Tracey prepared two exceptional honeymoon proposals to choose from, where she was able to tailor them to exactly what we wanted. We ended up going for South Africa followed by Mauritius, and Tracey was very knowledgable on both locations. Not only that, but the communication and help in answering any of our questions leading up to the holiday made the whole thing completely stress free. This was amazing for us as we were in the process of planning our wedding at the time. Travel Nation also provide a portal for all the information and documents, as well as an App with all the details and this proved very useful. Everything was considered and planned carefully, including transfers and timings to make the journeys as pleasant as possible. While we were away, we wanted to extend our holiday in Mauritius by a couple of days and Tracey responded quickly and sorted this out for us without any hassle. We can’t thank Tracey enough and if you are thinking of booking a stress free honeymoon or any other big holiday, we would highly recommend Travel Nation. Thank you!

Hi Josh, Thank you for such a glowing review and I’m so glad you love South Africa and Mauritius as much as I do. I hope you will have some wonderful memories from this trip and this trip will be a great start to married life together. All the best, Tracey Smith Senior Travel Consultant +44 (0)1273 457217

Natalie was excellent

Natalie was excellent. Very knowledgeable of the remoter areas of the South Pacific we were seeking to see, as well as able to make useful suggestions on the more mainstream parts of our planned 6 week holiday. Clearly someone with great empathy alongside an excellent, first hands knowledge of the areas she specialises in and strong wish to exceed client expectation. Thank you.

Perfect Pacific Adventure

We have recently returned from an amazing 3 week trip to French Polynesia and the Cook Islands for our 25th wedding anniversary. I had seen that Travel Nation were South Pacific experts and when I contacted Jim his customer service and local knowledge of the Cook Islands were exceptional. I knew I didn’t have to look any further and really enjoyed planning our perfect itinerary with him.

Date of experience : 08 June 2024

Hi Tracey, Thanks for the lovely review and I'm so glad you enjoyed the Cook Islands as much as I did! The South Pacific in general is such a wonderful part of the world, and combining Cook Islands and French Polynesia gives you a nice contrast of two Pacific nations. I’m so glad it all went so well 😊 Regards Jim Direct: 01273320573 [email protected]

We traveled around the world for 75…

We traveled around the world for 75 days and travel nation came up trumps again. David was really great at organizing our trip from Spain to San Francisco, Tahiti, New Zealand, Japan and Istanbul. Apart from a couple of hiccups with the airlines everything went perfectly and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. I would certainly recommend this company especially for a round the world trip. We’ll be back.

I enjoy booking your round the world trips each year and it’s great to catch up with you and discuss the new adventures you wish to plan for your next trip. Apologies once again for the issues you had with certain airlines. I am glad you were happy with my quick response and trying to resolve this issues for you whilst you were away. I look forward to organising many other trips for you in the coming years. Best wishes, [email protected] 01273 320578

Fabulous experiences in French Polynesia.

Planning of holiday: This was superb. Chris was very helpful and responsive to our suggestions. Answered emails quickly. Presentation of the holiday plan in the on line format made it easy for us to review Accommodation highlights: Hotel Tupina (Huhaine) - this was delightful. Host was just incredible. Our room was right on the water front - just lovely. Delicious food home cooked. Gift on departure. Had a car on site to rent. Stunning sunsets from the porch watching the land crabs. Very peaceful. Le Fare Miti (Moorea)- room was a little more basic but clean and extremely well positioned as well as having great views of the sunset. Very peaceful but within 20 min walk to local shops and restaurants. Good access to beaches and the water. Raiatea lodge hotel (Raiatea)- fabulous hotel and welcome with drinks and cool towels - very attentive staff who organised excursion to a neighbouring island and car hire (on site). Room had great views over lagoon and sunsets - very pretty to sit on balcony and watch the sunset. Plenty of beds by pool and food was great. Bar shuts very early so quiet at night later on. Mai Tai Bora Bora - gorgeous OTW bungalow with views over lagoon. Great snorkelling just outside! Helpful staff and gift on departure. Room came with a resident fish (Albert) who you could see through the glass bottomed coffee table! Transport Pick ups all spot on - always someone waiting for us to take us to the hotel. Only small thing was that at Bora Bora you have to get the ferry across to the pick up point in Vaitape and we were not really sure which ferry to get on here. This was easily solved for us by a helpful local lady. In terms of main flights from and to the U.K, we had some very long stop overs but actually these went over quicker than we thought and allowed us to be relaxed in case of delays. Flights between islands were great with stunning views thrown in. Sit on the left of the plane when you fly into Bora Bora for the views! All the small island airports were an absolute joy!! Excursions: 4 x 4 on Moorea - an informative host and interesting half day with fabulous views from parts of the island you cannot get to by car. Snorkelling on Bora Bora - despite a very windy day (confidence in the water we thought was a must in these conditions), local guides took us to 4 snorkelling spots to swim with Manta Rays, Sting Rays, Eagle Rays and Sharks. Must be done to see the island from the sea. Day trip to Taha from Raiatea - excellent full day with Manu the local guide - took us to a vanilla farm, a pearl farm as well as to a coral garden and some great snorkelling to see sharks and stingrays. We also had lunch on a lovely small island. Lagoonarium (Moorea) - this is not an organised excursion but a small boat takes you across to a privately owned Motu and the guide takes you back when you want to go. You can spend the whole day if you like (they provide some water, fruit etc). There is a coral garden and we had a very close encounter with stingrays which was very special. There were only about 6 people on the whole island. This is well worth doing. Car hire This is made very easy when the hotels have the cars on site and is cheap compared to other places we have visited. We found we needed a car to fully explore the islands as there is not really public transport or taxis easily available. Overall, a fabulous holiday and intend to use Travel Nation again for next year. We have always booked travel independently up until now but this experience has been so much easier!

Hi Julie, Many thanks for the 5-star review you sent through. It was great helping to arrange your fantastic trip around French Polynesia with flights, hotels and day tours. I am very happy you had a fantastic time and thank you for all the detailed feedback, as it is very useful for clients in the future. It has been great that we have managed to arrange your Seychelles trip already for next year and that looks like it will be just as amazing. Thanks again and hopefully we can book many more in the future. Chris West [email protected] 01273 320570

Magical experience

We’re now back home safely after a most wonderful time in Hong Kong and Japan. Quite magical!! We were beguiled by all things Japanese: wonderful sights, sounds, smells, infrastructure, standards and above all, people. Travel Nation tightened up our vague wish list into the itinerary and made the arrangements, which were flawless. Everything went to plan, which was a big factor in our delightful experience. This was our fifth or sixth big adventure which Travel Nation have put together. It won’t be our last!

Round the world, Canada, Hawaii, Australia and Hong Kong

Just got back from a round the world trip organised by Jim F. and the team at Travel Nation. Canada, Hawaii, Australia and Hong Kong. Timings and choice or hotels, flights and places along the way were perfect. Driving through Canadian Rockies at this time of year was breath taking. A big big thank you to Travel Nation, anyone thinking of this type of trip, don't hesitate to speak to Travel Nation, from start to finish; advise and organisation flawless.

Date of experience : 13 April 2024

Hi Peter and Linda, Lovely to hear that your recent Round The World trip was a great success. The combination of Spring in the Canadian Rockies, followed by some Hawaiian warmth and your Australian East Coast road trip, with a Hong Kong stopover on the way home seemed to work perfectly together. I’m so happy to hear that everything flowed smoothly and you had a great time. Until next time! Cheers Jim Direct: 1273320573 [email protected]

Absolutely First Rate

Travel Nation took us around the world from Japan, through Fiji to New Zealand and then to San Fransisco. They customised the whole trip to our needs, listening carefully to what we wanted and didn't want and then delivered - perfectly. Their choice of hotels and accommodation was particularly good, we were often blown away by the location and the quality, they certainly knew places that we would never have discovered. Our agent Kelly was a wonder, always there, always on top of things. Don't bother looking anywhere else.

Highly recommend Travel Nation

We highly recommend Travel Nation to advise, make all travel arrangements, sight seeing tours, flights, hotels for your tailor made holiday. We booked a holiday of a lifetime to South Africa, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Moorea and San Francisco and returned early February. Claire at TN was friendly and highly knowledgeable, she put the whole thing together perfectly. We also felt the cost was fair, transparent and value for money. Thank you Claire.

Worth it for a round the world trip

We booked a round the world ticket with Travel Nation, and were satisfied with the service. I think it was definitely worth it price-wise to go through them, rather than book independently. The staff was very available, reactive and friendly. On the down side, it is less convenient in terms of flexibility. Any change in tickets is quite pricey, as the fee to change is pretty high and you pay the difference in the ticket price on top of that. The reason I am giving 3 stars is that we were disappointed in terms of advice given when planning the trip and our destinations. We ended up changing the order of the countries to visit in South America after realising it made much more sense season/weather wise, which ended up adding quite a bit to the total price. We would have appreciated advice on that when booking, to avoid the additional costs.

Great Customer Service from Travel Nation

We worked with Chris at Travel Nation to create a family trip to Costa Rica and the US. Chris was really great at suggesting itineraries and sharing his experience of travelling with a young family. He was responsive and patient with our changes. Chris did a great job of finding us good value multi stop flights.

Around The World In 75 Days

Travel Nation organised our trip covering 75 days, 6 countries, 16 flights, 33 hotels, 4 day trips, 3 hire cars and a ferry and we can’t believe how incredibly smoothly the whole thing went. It was tailored perfectly to suit our needs. Hotels were excellent with some incredible locations. Olly, our agent, listened to everything we were looking for in the build up whilst creating the trip and stayed in touch throughout to answer any queries. Amazing memories created and we can’t begin to thank Olly enough for helping us go on the trip of a lifetime! Will definitely use Travel Nation again and are happy to recommend them to everyone.

Tracey made the whole process seamless

Tracey made a round the world flight ticket seamless from start to finish. She listened to the itinerary and budget and aced both. She is patient and knowledgeable. Two days before our first flight it was cancelled due to ground staff striking with Lufthansa but within the hour she had us rebooked a day earlier. Absolutely awesome. Thoroughly recommend her and Travel Nation

Hi Kirstin Many thanks for the 5 star review you sent through. It was great helping to arrange your fantastic trip with business class flights to Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. It was a great deal and so glad you had a fantastic time and everything went smoothly. Even with a last minute re-route on the way out due to strikes and that seemed to work well. It's also great we already have your Canada trip booked in for August this year. Hopefully, we can help you plan more trips in the future. Many thanks. Chris West [email protected] 01273 320570

Simply outstanding service

All I had to do was describe the outline of the road trip vacation I was planning, duration, budget etc. and the consultant, Natalie, turned it into a full itinerary dealing with all the timings and travel details and accommodation. This was then presented via a personalised multi-faceted web site in the most clear and understandable way. It then took only minor tweaking to get the final result. Simply outstanding service.

Amazing trip

We would like to say a very big thank you to David Taylor, who went way and beyond in organising our 21 day trip to the North & South areas of Sri Lanka. We gave him a very hard task as we do not like sitting by the pool or beach, but he did not let us down. We went on safaris, trains, cookery class with a local family, cycle ride through a local village, tea plantations, spice garden plus the usual tourist attractions. We had the most amazing time and would have no hesitation in recommending him, as he is very professional and takes time to understand your needs.

I’m pleased I arranged my trip through Travel Nation. Chris was friendly and helpful and gave me very clear information. A very unique trip

We booked our tour round Latin America with Travel Nation. Chris W. tailored us an amazing trip including 5 countries. We travelled to Mexico (seeing many historical sites) then to Costa Rica seeing the beautiful and complex nature. We continued to Perú: Lima, Paracas, Ica, Nasca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Cusco, Rainbow mountain, Inca Trail, Puerto Madonaldo etc. Then drove to Bolivia: Lake Titicaca, Sun island, La Paz and Salt flats. We ended up in Chile for a week before flying home. We came back with the most amazing memories and very happy as everything went to plan. 12 flights 25 hotels and so many tours. We visited so many places ( included places we never heard of) and learned so much about ancient civilisations as well as the modern culture. Our guides were very knowledgeable and experienced making our trip mostly memorable. The views and sites were breathtaking. We were in awe with everything. Our itinerary was highly complex and we wouldn't have been able to sort out such a fantastic trip without the expertise of Chris. Thank you very much for this unique experience. We can't wait to book again and visit another part of South America

French Polynesia delight

The accomodation selected reflected what we had asked for. Cocobelle bumgalow on Moorea was particularly nice albeit a little remote from anything other than the beach The agent's knowledge of the area helped a lot in tailoring our holidsy

Great experience

Great experience! The very nice Travel Nation representative I got in contact with helped me select tours that matched my needs perfectly, and the reservation and payment process was simple and easy. Then, on location, the tours were very well organized by their local partners, the tour guides were on time and professional, the groups were tiny and pleasant, and most of all, the activities and places were interesting and pleasant. Lots of fun, lots of good memories!

Our agent Olly Minnis was excellent…

Our agent Olly Minnis was excellent from start to finish in our trip to Costa Rica. He had great suggestions for us and patiently reworked itineraries with our ideas until it was just right. We had several calls back and forth to finalise plans and even giving us excellent first hand advice and tips having got back from a trip there himself. Very responsive on the run up and even while we were on the trip for any queries we had to ask. I wouldn't change a thing about our trip, it was perfect, and much of that was thanks to Olly's hard work. Highly recommend, thanks!

We ended up with a better trip than we…

We ended up with a better trip than we could have planned by ourselves, and saved a lot of time researching every aspect of it. The service was great throughout the whole process: from initial contact to working out our day to day plan. Our personal travel consultant took great care in understanding our wishes and then working out a trip that was exactly what we wanted plus some additional highlights that we would not have found without him. One consultant took us through the whole process - it was a great experience!

Travel Nation: Simply the Best Travel Company We Have ever Used

Travel Nation have always given us excellent service. Recently we had problems with flight cancellations on a holiday to New Zealand and Australia. Travel Nation found us good alternative flights very quickly. Their representatives were so helpful and so friendly. We would have been in real difficulty without their help. Our special thanks to Grainne, Charley and to James. They couldn’t have done more! They make a wonderful team.

Hi Denis Thank you for your glowing 5 star review & for taking the time to write this. With regards the flight cancellations, booking though us meant that we were able to deal with airline on your behalf, taking the stress away of having to spend hours on hold to the airline trying to get everything rebooked. You had such a great adventure booked so getting you onto a new flight was vital. It was a pleasure as always organising your holiday. I look forward to helping you plan the next one. Kind regards Grainne Senior Travel Consultant +44 (0)203 747 6705

Highly recommend.

Very helpful advice offered. Outline of proposed trip provided, so we were able to review and amend before final confirmation. Good to know there was support at the end of the telephone, if we had needed it, but everything ran smoothly.

South Africa is such a dream

South Africa is such a dream destination! After a safari in Tanzania and Kenya a couple of years ago our heart ached to return to this amazing continent. After being in touch with several companies we’ve decided to work with Your Travel Nation, and we made the best decision ever! Our flight into Cape town was delayed by 4 hours but our guide Peter was waiting for us upon arrival and took us to our hotel in Camps Bay. We woke up to a beautiful view over the ocean and explored Cape Town for 3 days. We paid a visit to Robben Island, Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap and also went down to Cape of Good hope and Boulders Beach. We had some delicious meals in several restaurants in Cape Town, the cuisine is absolutely brilliant. After 3 full days in the city we moved to the vineyards of Stellenbosch and spend 2 nights here. The landscapes are stunning, and the wine was some of the best we’ve ever had. Again, the accommodation that Iris picked for us was a real gem. We then flew to Johannesburg from where we were picked by our driver/guide Brian who took us to Drakensberg and Kruger National Park. In Kruger we stayed at the Elephants Plains Lodge and wow!!! This lodge was absolutely stunning, and the game drives were extremely professional, and the animal sightings were plenty. We could have never imagined that South Africa was this beautiful, but we are longing to go back in the future and we would definitely book with Your Travel Nation again. Thank you Peter, Brian, Iris and the team of Your Travel Nation, Thank you South Africa!

Dear Kyara, Thank you for your kind words :) South Africa surely is a dream and we are glad you got to live out this African dream.

East Africa dream trip!

East Africa dream trip!! I would like to thank Your Travel Nation, and most importantly our guides Charles and Huruma for a wonderful tour. After we postponed our tour due to Covid, we finally got a chance to travel to Uganda and Tanzania for our 25th wedding anniversary. Charles was our guide in Uganda and he was absolutely amazing and took extremely good care of us during our 3 days in the country. We went to Uganda for our long-life dream of seeing the Silverback gorillas and it was even more beautiful than we could have imagined. We hiked for about 2,5 hours to see the gorilla family and we were just in complete awe for the entire hour we got to spend with them. Regardless of the hustle of traveling during COVID, Your Travel Nation made sure all operations went smooth and we were not bothered by any logistics ourselves. Upon arrival in Tanzania Huruma greeted us at the airport and took us to the African Tulip hotel for overnight. The next morning we departed for our 7 day safari to Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti where we had a chance to witness the great migration. We stayed at beautiful places but our favorite one was Gibbs Farm where we were served with the freshest food from their farm. If you were to ask us what was the highlight of our trip, it might have just been the friendly people we met, especially our guides. We feel like we made friends for life and we can’t thank Charles and Huruma enough for making our dreams come true.

Dear Herman, Thank you for your review :) It was a pleasure hosting you and both Charles and Huruma still speak highly about you. We look forward hosting you again in the future.

Our Kenyan dream safari

My girlfriend and I went on a safari in Kenya's Amboseli and Masai Mara in July. Amboseli is breathtaking. The spectacular Mt. Kilimanjaro provides a glorious backdrop to the wildlife. We spotted cheetahs on their morning hunt. Lions, lionesses, and cubs taking an afternoon nap. Hyenas going about their scavenging. And over one hundred African elephants, taller than the Land Cruiser rover. YTN's experienced guide brought us close but kept a safe distance and boy did we enjoy the first two days. The third day was spent on the road. We had a stopover along the way to enjoy some local cuisine of goat. We arrived in Maasai Mara a little after 5 PM and went on to see all the wildlife we could. They were as tired as we were from their daily hunts or survival for some. The next three days were like a scene from the Nat Geo documentary, only that I was the one behind the camera and my girlfriend pretended she was a seasoned reporter. We watched the 8th wonder of the world unfolding before us. The wildebeest migration. Rhinos and leopards no longer eluded us, thanks to Raphael, the best guide so far, courtesy of YTN. More giraffes, herds of zebras, and antelopes taking turns to watch out for predators. I won't bore you with spoilers. All this was made possible by YOUR TRAVEL NATION. I got a referral from a friend and I won't stop now. I have another trip planned for March next year to Nepal and I trust they will make my experience epic. I recommend them without any reservations. Thanks, @yourtravelnation ;)

Dear Mirierich, Thank you for taking the time to write this thorough review. It's great to read that you had such an amazing time with us on your recent trip to Kenya. We would love to watch your own Nat Geo Documentary and listen to your girlfriends report ;-) We are looking forward to showing you the best Nepal has to offer, only 6 months left!! :)

Our first trip to Asia and it exceeded all our expectations.

Lara was the most accommodating curator. We started planning this trip a few months before our trip but only made the final decision 2 weeks before our arrival, Lara managed to arrange everything effortlessly and spotless! We started our trip in Nepal where we were warmly welcomed by our female guide Bashra and our driver Subash. We stayed in Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and explored the rural area of Namo Buddha. We absolutely loved our stay in Nepal, with beautiful rituals we got to attend in the morning, to a delicious Nepali lunch at a local family’s house and the many walks and hikes we did. The accommodations were absolutely stunning and well taken care of, we especially loved Hotel Nanee, a small boutique hotel that has so much character and makes you feel like you are visiting family, a home away from home. After spending four days in Nepal, we flew to Bhutan, a destination highly recommended by Lara. We can't express our gratitude enough for her suggestion as it was absolutely the perfect destination. The flight from Kathmandu to Paro could be best described as if you are in Heaven, the clear Himalayan views including Mount Everest, left us speechless for the entire 1 hr flight. We were warmly welcomed by Lobsang, our guide, and our excellent driver Passang. They quickly became like family members instead of guide/client relationships. We travelled with them to Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Paro for 10 days and we couldn’t have asked for a better travel companion. Our van was always spotless clean and we always had enough drinking water and lunches were all catered for. The hikes weren’t always the easiest as we had some issues dealing with the altitude, something we are not used to, but both Lobsang and Passang were always by our side, assisting us or carrying our bags. The hike to Tigersnest, in particular, was so stunning but tough on our older bodies, but it was 100% worth it. Our accommodations were all top-notch, with the absolute stunner Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary! A 5-star wellness resort where we could absolutely recharge and relax and enjoy the most delicious cuisines, enjoy some real Bhutanese treatments and massages and enjoy their indoor pool. Having meals with Tashi’s local family was a fantastic touch to the trip, and we felt like we had gained an entire family in Bhutan. Thank you once again to Lara, Bashra, Subash, Lobsang, Passang and Tashi and her lovely family, we are definitely planning on returning to Nepal and Bhutan with Your Travel Nation.

Travel influencer slammed for Taliban 'fangirl' moment in viral pic

Somali-american influencer marian abdi, popularly known as 'geenyada madow', was slammed for her social media posts from afghanistan as she said that visiting the nation was a "dream come true"..

  • Travel influencer criticised for photo with Taliban fighters
  • Marian Abdi called 'disgrace to all women'
  • Social media backlash for 'fangirling' over Taliban

A travel influencer has been at the receiving end of criticism on social media after posting a picture from her trip to Afghanistan where she appeared to "fangirl" over Taliban fighters.

Somali-American influencer Marian Abdi, popularly known as ‘Geenyada Madow’, was slammed for her social media posts from Afghanistan as she said that visiting the nation was a "dream come true".

As her post went viral with over 4 million views, Abdi found herself on the receiving end of the internet with several calling her a "disgrace to all women".

"Shameful," a user said, adding, "You are a disgrace, your presence and smile are an offence to all the women in Afghanistan."

Social media users also questioned whether Abdi enquired about the Taliban's harsh policies, such as stoning women and denying them access to education.

“I'm assuming you didn't ask why they stone women or have banned education for girls,” a user said.

On YouTube as well, Abdi discussed her encounter with Taliban fighters, expressing that she was "super nervous" about the meeting. She claimed that she inquired about why Afghan girls were barred from continuing their education beyond sixth grade. According to her, she received "varied reactions on their faces" and responses from the Taliban members.

I'm genuinely curious—what do you want me to do? Should I avoid visiting Afghanistan altogether? How do you expect a tourist to navigate politics with the Taliban? Five star customer service

My first long-haul trip and Travel Nation, in particular Natalie, made the travelling to New Zealand, Tasmania and back again an absolute dream. Natalie organised all flights perfectly, keeping me abreast of all changes and quickly and efficiently dealing with them. Any emails and calls I made were answered the same day, which meant I always felt confident in leaving things in their hands. Definitely 5 star customer service, I will be using them again.

Honeymoon of dreams

We have recently returned from our honeymoon on the islands of French Polynesia. Ruth Koessel has been our travel advisor and put together the most fantastic itinerary for us, which included visiting Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tikehau. She was very very knowledgeable about the islands and how best to travel round them, and we found the process of booking so easy. The holiday in itself was so straight forward to as Ruth had booked all the flights and transfers which made our honeymoon so relaxing as well as super enjoyable. The islands were stunning and the only thing we would have changed would have been to go for longer! Thank you Ruth and Travel nation for a super trip! Charlotte and Adam

A trustworthy travel agency. Travelnation offers a vast number of…

Travelnation offers a vast number of itineraries covering all continents. Their website is clear and user friendly. Their agents can provide the best advice as they have visited most of the countries. I have booked a few round the world trips with them and on each occasion, Jim (the agent I dealt with) has been very patient and offered invaluable advice and suggestions. He has also always worked out the best flights to avoid long layovers. My next venture is Japan and Polynesia, and once again Jim has made suggestions and worked out the perfect itinerary with great patience on his part. I am a solo female backpacker in my seventies.

US West Coast roadtrip - 2,500 miles of "wow"!

Just returned home from the most incredible road trip through California, Nevada and Arizona. We had initial ideas for where we wanted to go, but Claire at Travel Nation made it a reality for us. 17 nights, 10 locations and 2,500 miles of driving went without a hitch for our family - it was awesome at every stage. LA to San Diego, to the deserts, canyons and Route 66, on to Vegas, the national parks, San Francisco and the Pacific Highway back to LA - a jam-packed trip with some seriously great sights and experiences. I'd highly recommend talking to the team at TN for your trips as they made it a straightforward and helpful experience every step of the way. We'd use them again without a doubt and hopefully will do in another year or so ;-)

Safari in Tanzania

This was a family trip of a lifetime on Safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar. The trip was for 11 days and quite complicated with lots of different accommodation changes and flight transfers. Everything ran like clockwork, the guide (Pascal) was incredible, only surpassed by the amazing countryside and animals. The final part of the Trip to Zuri Resort, Zanzibar which was the perfect unwind and Qatar were great a airline to get us there and back. Finally a massive thank you to Jim Faulkner who put it all together for us, just an amazing trip! Would recommend Tanzani to anybody and recommend Jim to arrange a trip to anybody!!!

Honeymoon of Dreams

Scott put together the honeymoon of dreams for us. He helped us to decide on an itinerary and made recommendations for activities along the way that we hadn’t otherwise considered that made the trip so special. Every last detail was thought of and arranged for us, all we had to do was turn up at the airport. There were no hidden costs with travel nation, anything not included in the price was clearly listed. This is the second time using travel nation and we will certainly be using them again to plan future holidays as we know the customer service can’t be beaten and the trip will always exceed our expectations.

Great experience - 100% recommend Olly Minnis and Travel Nation

Great experience using Travel Nation for the first time for our Thailand holiday - Olly Minnis has been so great right from the start, with planning itineraries and different options, switching things around, super flexible etc nothing was too much of an ask. Olly has always been available and contactable too, before and after booking, very different to how we have found the larger travel agents to be. Our holiday was great from start to finish, all went to plan and no hiccups at all, only sad thing is it is now over! 100% recommend and we hope to be back to book in the future with Olly and Travel Nation again!

Tanzania and Zanzibar

We've just returned from 2 weeks in Tanzania and Zanzibar. It was the happiest and best family holiday we could have imagined. A brilliant culture shock - away from the consumerism of the UK. Immersed in African life, especially the Maasai tribe who were incredibly welcoming and open to sharing their lives. Amazing safari experiences across 5 game reserves each one unique and beautiful in its own way and we were lucky to see so many animals including both cheetah and lion cubs. Zanzibar was another world, we had 1 night in Stone Town which was hot, crowded and very interesting - the slave exhibition, call to prayer, beautiful wooden doors, narrow streets and roof top sundowners. Then we stayed in the north and then east of the island in two beautiful resorts - utter luxury. Thank you Jonny and Travel Nation

Hi Kate, Thanks so much for your feedback. It's always such a pleasure to create such treasured family memories. These are often a once in a lifetime trips, so I'm thrilled to read your comments. We try to include a diverse range of activities and national parks in our personalized Tanzania and Zanzibar itineraries, all a world away from home but each with heartwarming hospitality. I love that so many of our suggested lodges and activities became trip highlights, and I really enjoyed working with you to bring the whole experience together. Fantastic to see your cheetah photo too, the wildlife encounters our trusted guides manage to find always astonish me! Please keep in touch for future adventures. Amid summer of never-ending heat, California gets dusting of snow

This summer has delivered heat wave after heat wave for much of the nation, but on Saturday it got contrarian and delivered a trace amount of snow to California mountains.

Snow was measured in small amounts in and around Lake Tahoe on Saturday, with National Weather Service precipitation data showing accumulations of 0.15 inches north of Stanislaus National Forest to 0.03 inches north in the Tahoe National Forest.

It's unlikely to stick around, but it provided for a day of winter wonderland scenery in a country cooked by relentless heat.

The day in the Sierra Nevada Mountains started out rainy as wet roads were blamed for a vehicle collision on Interstate 80 that prompted the temporary closure of westbound lanes, according to the California Department of Transportation. The interstate runs through the Tahoe National Forest en route to the San Francisco Bay Area.

A coating of snow is seen below ski lifts at Sugarbowl Ski Resort in Donner Summit, Calif.

About 140 miles to the north, the annual Burning Man festival faced a second year of weather serious enough to prompt organizers to close the event's main gate Saturday morning to those arriving by vehicle ahead of Sunday's first day of festivities. Attendees were urged to delay their arrivals so as not to clog up roadways leading to the venue in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada, though the gate was opened later Saturday afternoon .

Later in the day, the Palisades Tahoe snow resort in the town of Olympic Valley was the site of falling snow, an August rarity captured on multiple cellphone videos.

California Highway Patrol video of Interstate 80 at Donner Summit in Soda Springs showed snow falling in what the agency described as "small flurries." "Too soon?" the CHP asked on Facebook.

The National Weather Service office in Reno, Nevada, said a winter-like cold front moved in from the Pacific and would continue to bring rain overnight until moving out of the area in its march east.

"It's pretty rare," said federal meteorologist Amanda Young. "It will bring temperatures down and do a light dusting."

Sunday morning temperatures were likely to be in the low 30s, prompting the service to issue warnings about a potential "hard freeze," which could destroy seasonal vegetation and create patches of ice on roadways. Temperatures were expected to be 15 to 20 degrees below normal, the weather service said.

A frost advisory was in effect for areas east of Reno in Nevada.

The rare, late-summer snow made for dazzling imagery, but it also served as a point of contrast for parts of the country that continue to bake in the season's dogged heat waves.

While a weather station near Walker, California, in the mountains about 85 miles south of Lake Tahoe, measured the day's lowest low temperature at 29 degrees, Medicine Lodge, Kansas, posted its highest in the contiguous United States at 115 degrees, according to the weather service.

Lubbock, Texas, posted 104 degrees, the fourth day in a row that that city set a record high for the respective dates.

A heat wave described by the weather service as "relentless" was expected to move to the northeast from its base over Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, bringing with it triple-digit high temperatures to parts of the Midwest.

Heat alerts are in effect for 23 million people from parts of New Mexico to parts of Minnesota, with that heat wave-producing high pressure system boosting temperatures to 10 degrees and more above normal this weekend, according to NBC forecasters.

But by Monday the same low pressure system that brought a little snow to California’s mountains will push that heat wave out and bring some relief to the nation’s midsection, federal forecasters said.

Australia the painless way

Heard about the agency through a friend, rang, it was Covid time !!! so nothing transpired for a while but once travel was available again I told Chris (extremely helpful and very knowledgeable) what our requirements were, air travel to Australia via a stopover in Singapore for a few days. Was asked when we wanted to travel, answered, left it with him, e-mail soon followed with some options. Decision soon made, again left it all with him. Nothing more to do (pay of course) just get our visas (he even reminded us about various paperwork required) and book the taxi to Heathrow. What can I say, completely painless from my side, Chris did all the work. For us, perfect. Used his agency twice now, third trip in the offing. Thoroughly recommended.

America Road Trip

This is the second trip we have arranged through TravelNation and once again their advice and arrangements proved to be spot on. Our consultant Nikki Clarke did an excellent job of selecting great accommodation & arranging flights then car hire for our road trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles via Death Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco & the Big Sur. The TravelKey app was amazing, giving a day by day breakdown of your hotel, expected journey time & things to see along the route as well as at each destination. I have no hesitation in recommending Nikki and TravelNation to future travellers.

We had a trip-of-a-lifetime

We had a trip-of-a-lifetime, 5-week road-trip holiday to Australia. I have used Travel Nation several times before, and this time they did another great job, finding the most cost-effective Business Class flights and organizing all the hotels and a hire car. Chris, in particular, was so helpful, giving us useful alternatives, managing a couple of changes before we left, and sorting out a hotel booking problem on arrival at our stopover in Kuala Lumpur (someone at the Malaysia end had cancelled it!) We will definitely use Travel Nation again.

Putin meets Azerbaijani president as tensions with Armenia persist

Russian leader Vladimir Putin held talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart as part of a two-day trip to secure Moscow’s strained trade routes and shore up ties in the South Caucasus.

Business links were high on the agenda as Putin and President Ilham Aliyev met in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku on Monday, with Aliyev announcing that $120 million had been earmarked to boost cargo transport between the two countries.

“We’re talking about the possibility of transporting 15 million tons of cargo per year or more,” he said, adding that the two countries crossed the $4-billion mark for Russia-Azerbaijan turnover last year and “neither of us think that is where things will stop,”

Such ties are a priority for Putin, who increasingly depends on countries such as Azerbaijan to access global markets because of sanctions imposed on Moscow over Russia’s war on Ukraine , said independent political scientist Zardusht Alizade.

“Azerbaijan is an important transit country for Russia at a time when it needs to have free access to world markets, including Iran and ports in the Indian Ocean,” Alizade told the Associated Press.

Armenia faces major crisis after the fall of Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenia finds itself amid one of the worst political crises in its decades of independence following the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Oct. 2, 2023

Putin’s overtures have been warmly welcomed by Baku. For Azerbaijan, retaining Moscow’s goodwill is important for national security over tensions with neighboring Armenia , says Alizade.

Russia has been Armenia’s longtime sponsor and ally since the fall of the Soviet Union. But relations between the two countries have become increasingly strained since September 2023, when Azerbaijan waged a lightning military campaign that took control of the Karabakh region, ending three decades of ethnic Armenian separatist rule there.

Armenia accused Russian peacekeepers deployed in the region of failing to stop Azerbaijan’s onslaught. Moscow, which has a military base in Armenia, rejected the accusations, arguing that its troops didn’t have a mandate to intervene.

Sultanova writes for the Associated Press.

When is Labor Day 2024? What to know about history of holiday and why it's celebrated

The calendar is getting ready to flip from August to September, which will soon mean the return of colorful leaves on trees, football season and bonfires. It also means Labor Day is approaching, meaning the unofficial end of summer.

During the three-day Labor Day weekend, many Americans will travel , shop for deals online and in-store and maybe sneak in one final visit to the beach or neighborhood pool.

However, the federal holiday is much more than just the summer's last hurrah. Observed each year on the first Monday of September, Labor Day is at heart a celebration of the hard-won achievements of America's labor movement and a recognition of what workers have contributed to the nation's prosperity.

Here's what to know about the Labor Day holiday, including when it is in 2024 and how it started.

Flying for Labor Day weekend? TSA predicts record-breaking numbers at security

When should you leave? The best and worst times for traffic over Labor Day Weekend 2024

When is Labor Day in 2024?

In 2024, Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 2.

Why do we celebrate Labor Day?

Rooted in the the labor movement of the 19th century, the holiday originated during a dismal time for America's workers, who faced long hours, low wages and unsafe conditions.

As labor unions and activists advocated and fought for better treatment for workers at the height of the Industrial Revolution, the idea arose to establish a day dedicated to celebrating the members of trade and labor unions,  according to History.com .

Even today, many Americans continue to celebrate Labor Day with parades and parties − festivities outlined in the first proposal for a holiday, according to the  U.S. Department of Labor . Since those early celebrations, Labor Day is now also marked with speeches by elected officials and community leaders who emphasize the economic and civic significance of the holiday.

How did Labor Day begin?

Two workers can make a solid claim to the title of Labor Day's official founder, according to the labor department.

Some records show that it was Peter J. McGuire, the co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, who in 1882 first suggested the idea for the holiday. However, recent research supports the contention that machinist Matthew Maguire proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York.

Regardless of which man deserves the credit, Labor Day soon became recognized by labor activists and individual states long before it became a federal holiday.

Organized by the Central Labor Union, the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1882 in New York City, according to the labor department. On that day, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square, according to History.com.

New York was also the first state to introduce a bill recognizing Labor Day, but Oregon was the first to pass such a law in 1887, according to the labor department. By 1894, 32 states had adopted the holiday.

When did Labor Day first become federally recognized?

Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed a law passed by Congress designating the first Monday in September a holiday for workers.

But the federal recognition was hard-won, having come after a wave of unrest among workers and labor activists brought the issue of workers' rights into public view.

In May that year, employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago went on strike to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives, according to History.com. A month later, the government dispatched troops to Chicago to break up a boycott of the Pullman railway cars initiated by labor activist Eugene V. Debs, unleashing a wave of fatal riots.

Congress quickly passed an act making Labor Day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories. By June 28, Cleveland signed it into law.

It’s perfect

Got this tip from a friend who travels a lot in 2019 and since then we always use this company for our travel documents. Always timely and reliable service. I definitely recommend!

We utilized Express to Russia’s…

We utilized Express to Russia’s services while we were in Moscow for an expo. They were friendly, well prepared and flexible. For example, Despite arrangements they agreed to drop us off at Red Square instead of our hotel to ensure that we had enough time to sightsee after setting up for the expo. In addition, there was insane holiday traffic and an accident on the way to the airport however their preparation meant that leaving promptly at 7pm, which resulted in us being in time to board our 23:20 flight. Thanks again!

Our experience with expresstorussia is really great. First they arranged our invitation letters for Russian visa. Everything went without any complication and we got them even faster than written on their website, so we decided to also trust them to book us an overnight train from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Once again e-tickets were in my inbox in 2 days. We thank expresstorussia for making our trip to Russia possible and recommend them to anyone. We enjoyed Russia very much and will probaby return there next year. Most surely will we use this agency again. Greetings from Slovenia

We used Express to Russia to book our cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow

We used Express to Russia to book our recent cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow. I found the staff to be excellent in all ways. Responses to my questions were always prompt and polite, even when my questions were stupid since the answers had already been included in information given and I had not read it closely enough. They arranged the visa invitation so I could apply for our visas, as soon as I asked. I had no worries at all about booking our cruise with them

We just returned from a trip to Moscow…

We just returned from a trip to Moscow and St Petersburg arranged by Express to Russia and Yulia. I could not be more pleased with how it went. Everything was as hoped and exceeded expectations. Our two guides were friendly, knowledgeable and spoke close to perfect English. They also gave us the ability to opt in or out of some activities which was greatly appreciated. I recommend this company without reservations. A minor suggestion: Advise customers to drink bottled water only. The hotel employees did not tell us that either but luckily we asked and then were told not to drink tap water.

A+ St Petersburg Tour

We just returned from Saint Petersburg where Express to Russia helped us plan a fantastic tour. It was amazing! The itinerary was great and our guide really made a difference- she was super knowledgeable and cheerfully answered all of our questions (even those posed by our teenagers). Our hotel was lovely too and had a fantastic spa facility. Everything was well organized and timely, they were even responsive via email which I appreciated given the challenge of planning a trip from so m ay timezones away. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

As a travel agency I used the service of Express to Russia to receive invitation letters several times. It was always an easy an quick process, and each time I had to change something on the invitation letter, they did it free of charge. I highly recommend this company!

A perfect trip!

My daughter and I took a cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg in September. Express to Russia was very helpful at every step. They were the first to respond when I'd googled several companies for information, and I believe it was the only personal response. Galina shepherded us from that first inquiry through several false starts on our part through the visa process to the final trip. I've already recommended them to other people.

Pre booking and post booking communication was great. Flexible and tailored made to suit our requirement. Tour Guide made our stay more memorable by helping out of way.

We did the river cruise from Moscow to…

We did the river cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg. The cruise was great and the english speaking guides were extremely knowledgeable and spoke very clear english. Our only negative would be that as there were only 11 english speaking guests on our cruise and our on-board director didn't give us the same information that the norgewian or french continguent got. I cannot fault "Express Russia". I would however warn people about taxi drivers in Russia. Be very careful and make sure you get a price for the ride before you get into a taxi and stay well clear of the "Taxi Marshall". We paid 10,000 rubles for an 18 minute ride from Moscow airport to our hotel.

Eight Day Tour of Russia

We enjoyed a well-organized eight day tour of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Our tour included Novgorod as well, which was well-worth seeing as Russia’s oldest city. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions. Our drivers were also skilled and the cars were comfortable. Our hotels had ideal locations downtown, right next to the places we wanted to see and great restaurants. Yulia provided us with a well-organized itinerary up front and made our trip very smooth. This is a great tour for anyone interested in Russian history or who loves museums and palaces. It’s also a great value for a private tour. We’re glad we went! Thanks to Express to Russia for a great trip.

Express to Russia is trustworthy

We booked a river cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow through Express to Russia as well as a transfer from the airport to the port in St Petersburg. Express to Russia proved to be completely trustworthy. The transfer pick up worked smoothly with driver waiting for us on arrival and everything to do with the cruise went well. They had even included some of the 'optional' excursions in our package that other people had to pay additional amounts for. Bottom line is they are real, you can book through them and have peace of mind. Note: we booked on the Lev Tolstoy - much cheaper than Viking and it was excellent.

Awesome Company!

We are from Canada and recently completed a 10 day tour of Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Golden Ring using Express to Russia. They were awesome and we fully recommend using this company. They were on time to meet us at the airport, the train station, and the hotels. They basically did everything they said they were going to do. The guides were very experienced, educated and well informed. A special thanks to our guides Lena (Moscow), Nadin (St. Petersburg), and Olga (Golden Ring).

Terrific Trip!

From starting to plan last year through the culmination of our trip last week, everything was terrific. The 7-day cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg was on a lovely boat and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Our excursions were well-managed and exactly as advertised. The two-day tours we did before around Moscow and at the end around St. Petersburg were fabulous. All of our guides were outstanding and we will treasure the time we spent in Russia. They expedited the visa process and transfers to and from the airports.

St Petersburg day tour

Contacted Yulia to arrange our customized day for us, a family of three. Driver and our English speaking guide arrived promptly and greeted us in our hotel lobby. We visited Peter and Paul's Fortress, the Church of Spilled Blood and then the Hermitage. It was great day and worry free. our guide was Knowledgeable and answered our questions. She also recommended a "local" restaurant at the end of our day and it was lovely. Thank Yulia and Express to Russia!

Our group had an amazing experience on our Express to Russia tour. Every detail was taken care of, and our guides offered us a far richer experience than we would have had touring alone. Express to Russia also cost significantly less than similar tours. Would absolutely recommend to a friend.
