Where is Hot in November for your next Getaway

1) west palm, florida.

Florida is one of the best winter vacation destinations in America for a reason; with both Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines, the state is all about the beaches.

If you’re looking for a warm place in November, you should plan your trip to West Palm Beach.

The average temperature during those months is 74 degrees F, and August is considered its warmest month, with an average temperature of 84 degrees F.

This warm-weather destination has white sandy beaches and attracts tourists from all over, thanks to its wide variety of luxurious hotels, shopping centers, bars, and nightclubs.

You can plan your vacation around sporting events, cuisine, or shopping – there are plenty of activities for every type of traveler.

Clematis Street  is the historical heart of  Downtown West Palm Beach . Starting at Flagler Drive on the Intracoastal Waterway, walk west to experience the indigenous flavor of the area’s colorful boutiques, nightclubs, live music, restaurants, and historical landmarks.

Thursday nights come alive from 6 to 9 p.m. when the popular event Clematis By Night   features live music by the area’s best bands, food and drink specials, and an unmatched social scene.

Where to Stay in West Palm Beach

Located in Downtown West Palm Beach, Canopy by Hilton West Palm Beach Downtown is a 5-minute walk from The Square and 15 minutes from other popular attractions like Clematis Street.

2) Los Cabos, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas consistently ranks high among U.S. travelers as one of the best places to travel in November for warm weather, and it’s easy to see why.

From warm weather, sunny days, beautiful beaches, warm ocean water—it’s no wonder millions flock to Los Cabos every year. With average highs of 84 degrees, November is a great time to go. It’s also the start of the dry weather season so you’ll get lots of sunshine.

While the 20-mile stretch between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is dripping in luxurious hotels that have entertained the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, and George Clooney, my favorite hotel is the ultra-luxurious Ritz Carlton Hilton.

Set between bluffs on the Baja peninsula, the secluded casitas, suites, and villas are done up in airy, traditional Baja-style decor with handcrafted Mexican furniture and beds draped with soft linen canopies.

If you’re in need of a break from lounging on the beach,  Wild Canyon ATVing  is certain to get your blood pumping. With a personal guide and your own ATV, you’ll follow routes that whip you between barren desert vistas and beaches stretched along the Sea of Cortez.

Farm to Table cooking experience can be an immersive and fun way to teach you all about Mexican culture — and how to cook its cuisine. “You can come back and be a very accomplished performer in your own kitchen.

In town, grab dinner at  Los Tres Gallos , an authentic Mexican spot off the beaten path of Cabo’s strip that serves killer pozole, mole enchiladas, and tamarind margaritas in an outdoor courtyard.

Where to Stay in Los Cabos

Catch some rays on Ritz Carlton Beach & Golf Resort’s private sand beach or spend the day relaxing at the full-service spa. Then enjoy a meal at one of the resort’s 4 restaurants.

Along gently sloping dunes overlooking the Sea of Cortés in San José del Cabo, luxury suites and villas reflect the land and those who sprung from it.

Here, nature is invited within, and resort guests are encouraged to venture out: sliding glass doors replace traditional walls, terraces are an extension of the home, and private plunge pools provide tranquility and the opportunity to breathe fresh air.

Throughout, luxury villas, art, textiles, and decorative objects from Mexican artists showcase the tradition and talent found in Cabo and beyond.

My favorite is the beachfront two-bedroom suite, which is designed for families and features exclusive works by Mexican artists.

It features one bedroom and two bathrooms, including one with an outdoor shower, walk-in closets, and a furnished sea-view terrace with a private plunge pool. The whole family will have the best time.

3) The Dominican Republic

The Dominican is also another hot spot for warm places to visit in November.

The Dominican Republic has one of the most varied landscapes of any Caribbean nation. Aside from the warm beaches, you’ll find mountainous terrain, large lakes, and sand dunes that allow a rich variety of attractions within one small country.

Whether it’s diving beneath the ocean waves for a face-to-face experience with colorful fish , hiking to a waterfall and jumping into a cavernous pool , or getting your fill of traditional regional dishes like  sancocho  (beef stew) and  mangu  (mashed plantains),

There’s no such thing as bad weather—just bad clothing choices. So pack your bathing suit and some shorts.

Where to Stay in The Dominican Republic

The Eden Roc is a 30,000-acre gated community on the eastern tip of the country. It includes resort and residential areas, pristine beaches, a Jack Nicklaus golf course, a marina, and an idyllic natural forest at its center.

Though all four restaurants overlook the lagoon, our favorites include BLUE Grill + Bar, which fuses Japanese and Peruvian flavors and techniques, and La Cava, where you can enjoy a private dinner surrounded by one of the best wine collections in the DR.

Each of the 34 suites features a private pool, smart tech amenities, and chic interiors by Milan-based designer Marina Nova. Villas up the luxury ante with dedicated butlers. (Plus, all guests enjoy private roundtrip airport transfers.)

Give in to the rhythms of the Dominican Republic and experience an endless array of activities and excursions, from riding a breathtaking eco-trail on mountain bikes to taking an afternoon snooze by your private pool.

Take a scuba-diving lesson and admire a colorful sunset on a catamaran sailing cruise. It’s your time to unwind the Eden Roc way.

If you’re still looking for warm-weather destinations and are eager to get away from frigid winter weather, look no further than Jamaica. The tropical climate is the perfect place to warm up from the fall chill.

Although it is a tropical island, there are plenty of places in Jamaica where you can escape during cold seasons to enjoy warm weather.

One particular location that has been gaining popularity among vacationers is Montego Bay because it offers tropical, beach life year-round.

Plus, with nearby attractions like Dunn’s River Falls and Doctor’s Cave Beach all within 30 minutes of travel time by car, you’ll never be far from some fun.

Warm temperatures will average around 72°F during your stay in Montego Bay – so grab your sunglasses, pack your bags, and let’s go!

The Caribbean island is known for its year-round warm weather, with an average temperature of about 80 degrees Fahrenheit (about 27 degrees Celsius).

Although Aruba doesn’t typically see a drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) during winter, you may want to pack a sweater or jacket if you visit a national park—it can get quite chilly.

It’s also important to note that hurricanes tend to crop up around Aruba in October and November. If you don’t mind taking a risk, however, some travelers prefer those months because they believe there are fewer tourists and better deals.

With an average sea temperature in the low 80s, don’t miss spending time in the beautiful waters around Aruba. Aruba is known for shallow coral reefs that are great for beginners or, for the more adventurous, try scuba diving.

When it comes to adults-only romantic escapes , Bucuti & Tara checks all the boxes: eco-friendly rooms are done up in a serene-meets- tropical white and turquoise palette , beachside tables for two sit right on the sand, and a private wellness concierge rounds out days spent in the sun.

Though breakfast is the only meal included in the rate, you can add a dining plan to use on-site or at any of the 20 participating Aruba Gastronomic Association restaurants on the island.

Where to Stay in Aruba

Perched along the soft sands of Palm Beach, The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba embodies the rich spirit of this beautiful southern Caribbean Island.

The resort features 320 contemporary reimagined guest rooms, including 55 suites. Each suite has a spacious private balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea, which offers miles of azure waters to explore.

It features two swimming pools: a family-friendly pool and a serene-setting adults-only pool. Offering a collection of five dining options, a luxurious 13-treatment room Spa, state of an art fitness center, and a 24-hour casino.

At the edge of the Caribbean Sea, where the white sand meets land, The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba offers an escape from routine and an opportunity to truly relax.

The five-star resort was designed to allow guests to easily explore the island and enjoy the hotel grounds endlessly. Amenities are both comforting and indulgent, and all reflect Aruba’s spirit, richness, and charm.

6) The Bahamas

Just a few hours away from Florida, the Bahamas is a great place to take a winter trip. In addition to its warm climate, Exuma is home to Sandals’ all-inclusive resort, which is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Bahamas.

Deep within the idyllic waters of the Exumas, adults-only Sandals, Emerald Bay brings unprecedented luxury to the easy-going rhythms of the Bahamian Out Islands.

The Exumas are renowned for their sapphire-blue waters, which are so stunning that their brilliant colors are visible even from outer space.

This chain of 365 islands is home to secluded footprint-free beaches, deserted cays, and ultra-exclusive resorts. Here, nature outnumbers man, coastlines remain flawless, and private islands host the world’s most famous stars—including a group of four-legged local celebrities.

After visiting the cay inhabited by swimming pigs. Later, swim with friendly sharks on an adventure that is far from ordinary.

Where to Stay in The Bahamas

Sandals all-inclusive resort in the Bahamas is a privileged enclave designed to ensure you’ll feel like you’re the only ones there. Service reigns supreme, and the Bahamian-style architecture of elegant villas and suites harmonizes nature.

Whether you crave an evening of sophisticated gastronomy, the barefoot elegance of oceanside dining, a refined afternoon tea, or a lively night at an authentic English pub, unique venues offer the taste and ambiance to suit every mood and whim.

I suggest the Prime Minister’s Honeymoon Butler Suite.  This extraordinary villa is optimal for those seeking a romantic retreat indulging in beachfront luxury.

Embraced by modern island elegance, these gorgeous Love Nest Butler Suites overlook the stunning turquoise Caribbean Sea and offer the added service of a personal butler.

The suite’s elegant entrance hall leads to a large living room which opens to a furnished private patio with direct access to the spectacular beach.

The spacious bedroom features handcrafted mahogany furnishings, a king-size bed, and elegant British Colonial accents.

Sandals’ all-inclusive resort in Exuma is the ultimate romantic getaway.

7) St. Lucia

Imagine yourself reclining on the sandy white beaches, soaking in the volcanic mud baths of Soufrière, ziplining through lush rainforests , indulging in authentic island food , and club-hopping on the Rodney Bay strip, and riding ATVs through the countryside.

Envision exploring the rich history of abandoned sugar plantations , snorkeling in crystal clear waters , chasing brightly colored fish in the shadow of the Pitons, or experiencing a live sea turtle hatching in the last light of dusk.

Saint Lucia’s history i s as rich as it is vibrant. The island is a virtual gumbo of cultures, and her people have a deeply held sense of cultural identity that they vigorously celebrate to this day.

Embark on a voyage to discover Saint Lucia’s story, from her pirate past to her colonial times to the colorful customs of her people.

Where to Stay in St. Lucia

Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort, a former sugar plantation-turned-rainforest respite is a favorite for young families thanks to its all-inclusive option, popular on-site kids club, and JetBlue’s seasonal “Mint” flights that fly between JFK and St. Lucia’s Hewanorra airport.

Take the opportunity to reconnect and reflect as you explore every breathtaking angle of this island paradise — be it hiking in the Pitons, indulging in a treatment at the Rainforest Spa, or sipping a rum cocktail at the new poolside bar and cabanas.

The fine dining and beachside restaurants just got a refresh to make you truly feel in touch with the landscape. Not a day passes here without incredible memories made and peaceful moments found.

From alfresco hideaways to scenic overlooks to casual cafes, you’ll find something to satisfy your taste, no matter the time of day. Many enhancements have been made to the resort’s culinary scene, starting with the fine dining restaurant located in the main house.

However, there’s plenty of tranquility to be had: 67 luxury villas are built in small clusters, each with its own oversizedd plunge pool and located minutes away from the secluded white sands of Sugar Beach.

Yet you may find that your private guestroom, villa, or suite is the best place to be.

Spacious, with breathtaking views, and attended to by your own persobutler, these private retreats redefine it means to live in luxury.

8) Antigua & Barbuda

Nicknamed the Land of 365 Beaches, Antigua and Barbuda is a sun-and-sand destination for travelers worldwide.

These twin islands, which are part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, are located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

They are popular destinations for cruise travelers, and shore excursions that guarantee an on-time return to your ship can help you make the most of your time in port.

For travelers who plan to linger longer, tours that include hotel pickup and drop-off minimize planning and maximize convenience.

A sightseeing tour of this city combines a visit to the local produce market with duty-free shopping at the Heritage Quay shopping complex.

Or go more in-depth with a sightseeing tour of the entire island: An island tour hits all the highlights of Antigua, including a stop at English Harbour, the historic district that houses Nelson’s Dockyard and where salty seagoing vessels and luxe yachts bob in cerulean waters.

With bird’s-eye views over the whole island, Shirley Heights is a great place to catch the sunset. Barbuda, a string of pristine sandy shores located just a few nautical miles away, has a mellower vibe than Antigua.

On both islands, opportunities to get out on the water abound, from yachting excursions to snorkeling (Cades Reef is a popular spot), swimming, and beachcombing.

Both places also boast beautiful beaches that make great destinations during any season. From Oct. 15 to Nov., many local hotels are affordable.

Where to Stay in Antigua & Barbuda

Sandals Grande Antigua is located on Antigua’s best and most famous beach, Dickenson Bay. Explore the Caribbean Beachfront Village, a charming seaside garden oasis graced by meandering pathways, majestic palms, and cooling Trade winds.

9) Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Santa Teresa, Costa Rica is one of my favorite warm weather destinations and if you love adventure like I do book your next getaway to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.

Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Costa Rica spans just 170 miles (274 kilometers) coast-to-coastyet contains six percent of the world’s biodiversity.

Postcard-perfect beaches, lush, protected rainforests, and a proud history of promoting conservation and eco-tourism have helped make the country a veritable paradise for active travelers and nature lovers—as well as Central America’s top travel destination.

Many tours begin in Costa Rica’s “Golden Triangle” and string together the most popular destinations: Arenal Volcano National Park and nearby La Fortuna, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, and Manuel Antonio National Park.

In this region alone, there are enough outdoor activities to fill several vacations, ranging from ziplining through the rainforest canopy to whitewater rafting to rainforest safaris, and perhaps even a glimpse of the Arenal volcano in action.

Many tours offer family-friendly options, and proximity to the Pacific coast makes it easy to include plenty of beach time.

Off the beaten path, consider a private tour of Tortuguero National Park , a protected wilderness reserve and seasonal sea turtle nesting ground that also houses monkeys, crocodiles, and more than 300 species of birds.

If you have some time in San Jose, the capital offers a wealth of museums, including the National Museum, the Gold Museum, the Jade Museum, and the Children’s Museum.

Or tour the lively Central Market to shop for handicrafts. Everywhere you go, Costa Rica casts its spell—don’t be surprised if you fall in love with the “pura vida” lifestyle and never want to leave.

10) Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs is known for its warm weather, even though temperatures can reach around 100 degrees at times. Palm Springs has been a trendy weekend getaway for vacationers in need of sun-soaked R&R.

But the stylish desert oasis offers pleasures beyond its sublime weather—specifically, its stunning scenery, kitsch-is-cool architecture, flourishing culinary scene, and boutique hotels.

The city is also home to a large number of golf courses, so those looking to golf year-round will enjoy spending time there. When it’s not too hot outside, many tourists visit Palm Springs for its world-class shopping and dining options as well.

Anyone who wants to spend some time outdoors should consider visiting California’s Palm Springs in November; you’ll be able to enjoy warmer weather and plenty of tourist attractions during your trip.

The nearby  Aerial Tramway , an 11-minute cable car ride that takes guests a half thousand feet up the sheer face of Mount San Jacinto, is a great way to get a feel for the area. If that leaves your stomach queasy, we recommend grabbing a cocktail at the Purple Palm.

11) Barbados

With warm water, a t ropical climate, and clear skies , Barbados is a fantastic destination for travelers looking to get away from it all.

The bustling capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bridgetown boasts many multicolored historical buildings and some pedestrian shopping streets.

The fine sand beaches and azure waters in the south draw travelers from all over the globe, while the wild and rugged coast of the island’s north offers natural wonders.

In between lies the famous Harrison’s Cave, a limestone formation that contains stalagmites, stalactites, and underground water features.

To cover all of that—and the mix of colonial, native, and immigrant cultures in between—tours by car, catamaran, and 4×4 help speed transport and shed light on Barbados’ food and customs.

Visitors join local and international surfers at a beach called the “Soup Bowl” in the quaint fishing village of Bathsheba, peek at the local green monkeys at Welchman Hall Gully, and stop at Saint Nicholas Abbey, which opens a window into what life on the island may have looked like in the 17th century.

For more relaxed—but no less impressive—sights, Hunte’s Garden showcases the lush, tropical flora and fauna found in Barbados, and nobody can resist a stop at the famous Mount Gay Rum Distillery, where travelers visit the Heritage Museum and even take a course in mixing the perfect rum cocktail.

13) Curaçao

The “C” in the ABC islands, Curaçao, features historic settlements, rugged landscapes, and plenty of fun in the sun. (Aruba and Bonaire are the other islands constituting the westernmost islands of the Leeward Antilles).

Curaçao’s main port city, Willemstad, is what an Old World European city would look like if someone dropped it in the Caribbean. The brightly painted Dutch colonial buildings reflect pinks, yellows, and blues into the cerulean St. Anna Bay.

Once you leave the city, the landscape shifts to a desert scene, with spiny aloe and mesquite sprouting from atop weathered limestone cliffs.

But Curaçao’s real draw is the beach. Picture-perfect bays and coves flank the island, their turquoise waters lapping gently against the powdery white sand.

Curaçao’s reefs teem with marine life, providing excellent underwater playgrounds for scuba divers and snorkelers. Best of all, the semiarid island is sheltered from the worst of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Gentle trade winds keep temperatures in the mid-80s, so you can enjoy the outdoors year-round.

Where to Stay in Curacao

Sandals Royal Curacao is where you’ll taste it in the quintessential flavors of Dutch, Caribbean, Latin, and Creole cuisine, simmered low and slow, melding into a stobá stew.

And hear it when you learn to say “I love you” in four different languages, with a true sense of warmth only Sandals can teach you. You’ll put it all into the memories you’ll create with the person you love at Sandals Royal Curaçao.

I suggest booking the Kurason Island Suite, which overlooks the exclusive heart-shaped pool and lush private island garden.

These new signature suites surround a secluded lagoon, where guests can explore and perfect their own love languages.

Relax in the separate living room’s comfortable seating area, which has a fully stocked wet bar with premium liquor and a dining table.

14. Phuket, Thailand

Phuket is one of Thailand’s most popular destinations, and with so many activities, sights, and experiences to enjoy, it’s easy to see why it’s a favorite for those looking to escape cold weather.

Phuket is generally a warm destination to visit in November. During that time, Phuket experienced its dry season, with warm temperatures and lower rainfall than other times of the year.

A palm-fringed paradise of pristine beaches, exotic wildlife , and cocktails on tap, Phuket is Southern Thailand’s headline act.

Jutting out into the Andaman Sea, this is Thailand’s largest island, as well as its busiest, and while the crush of tourists in high season can be overwhelming, its popularity is well deserved.

The capital, Phuket Town , is the obvious starting point, with its buzzing markets and non-stop nightlife, but the best hotels can be found along the west coast, hugging the shores of Kamala Beach , Karon Beach , and Kata Beach.

Farther north, Surin and Layan Beach, and laid-back Rawai, at the southern tip of the island, offer respite from the crowds, while busy Patong Beach is the life of the party, boasting the island’s best nightlife.

Phuket also serves as the departure point for many of the surrounding islands and there are a huge variety of day trips available . There are also many rich historical sites and ancient temples to explore.

Cruise beneath the jagged limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay, home to James Bond Island; admire the Hollywood-worthy landscapes of Phi Phi Island, where Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie “The Beach” was filmed, or discover the underwater wonders of the remote Similan Islands.

Where to Stay in Phuket

Amanpuri Hotel is nestled in a coconut grove on the sea; the hotel is a true oasis on the western coast of Phuket and the epitome of elegance.

Its open courtyards and reflecting swimming pools flanked by traditional pavilions invoke a true sense of place and make you feel far away from the rest of the world.

The word Amanpuri means “place of peace” in Sanskrit, and the hotel truly lives up to its name.

Amanpuri is set on a large, sandy beach dotted with sun loungers and cabanas: enjoy cocktails and savory treats at the Beach Terrace restaurant before lingering at the Sunset Terrace to watch the sky turns pink, purple, and blue in front of you.

DO YOU NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE WHEN TRAVELING THIS FALL?

YES! Travel Insurance is important no matter where you are traveling because accidents happen and you should always travel with insurance.

I got extremely sick in the Czech Republic, and that was the one time I decided to forego travel insurance. I racked up thousands of dollars in medical bills, and they wanted their money before I would even be seen by the ER Doctors.

Make sure to get your insurance before you head off on an adventure!  I highly recommend  Travelex Insurance.

PLEASE  GET TRAVEL INSURANCE!

No matter what kind of travel you’re into, November has something to offer you somewhere in the world. Lovers of cool temperatures and snow sports can explore the Northern Hemisphere, while places like Australia and the Caribbean offer plenty of sun if you’re not ready for winter’s chill. Early holiday celebrations also start to pop up in November, which is perfect for those who want festive charm without December crowds. Whether you opt for the souks of Marrakesh or the cozy confines of the Ozarks, we hope you’ll find time for a getaway this November.

Here are 15 of the best places to travel this November.

Ambika Verma/Travel + Leisure

In June, I spent two days in Dubrovnik at the end of a cruise along Croatia’s coast. My first view of Dubrovnik was from the sea: its massive city walls set atop rugged limestone cliffs, with the terra-cotta roofs of the town visible above. Later, in the Old Town, I walked along the limestone cobbled streets among Baroque buildings, shops, restaurants, and narrow alleys where there was something to see at every turn. Magical moments included listening to a white-gowned choir of men and women singing in an ornate alcove, their voices echoing while a crowd gathered. An attraction for most tourists is a walk along the top of the 13th-century wall, something I will be sure to do on my next visit. November would be a good time for it, with cooler temperatures and fewer visitors than I experienced in June.

Where to Stay: The luxurious Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik is set on a cliff overlooking the Adriatic, with a spa, indoor heated pool, and Michelin-recommended restaurant. Hotel More , where I stayed, features five-star boutique style and the Cave Bar , carved from a natural cave. Hotel Excelsior , a former villa built in 1913, offers an indoor pool, spa, and dramatic waterfront views.

A drive of 150 miles or a train ride of a little more than an hour takes you from Paris to the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for vineyards, châteaux, charming villages, and delicious cuisine. “Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the Loire Valley, as the changing leaves are beautiful in contrast with the stark white castles, and you are avoiding major tourism waves from both international and domestic travel,” says Travel + Leisure A-list travel advisor Mark Bonte of French Side Travel. “The castles are a classic to see when visiting this region, often called ‘Garden of France’ by French people,” he says, adding that sampling local wine is another must-do. Bonte also notes, “If you come at the end of the month, the castles present their Christmas decorations — perfect timing for Americans traveling for Thanksgiving and looking to get a head start on the Christmas spirit!”

Where to Stay: Hotel Château du Grand-Lucé , built in 1760, has been exquisitely restored with classical landscaping inspired by the gardens at Versailles. At Loire Valley Lodges , luxury tree houses offer hot tubs and forest views.

By November, hurricane season has passed and peak visitor season is just beginning, making it a great time for a trip to Saint Barthélemy (aka St. Barts). The weather is warm and sunny, beaches are gorgeous, and festive events are on the schedule. The St. Barth Gourmet Festival , Nov. 5-10, brings top chefs for a celebration of local and French cuisine. The Caribbean Rum Awards and Cata Cup sailing regatta will also attract fans. If you happen to tire of relaxing on the beach or lounging beside your hotel pool, there’s plenty to do, from shopping to hiking. Choosing a hotel for your Caribbean vacation might be the most difficult part of the trip, with many stunning properties on the island. Once that “chore” is done, you can look forward to sunny days, delicious food, and island atmosphere.

Where to Stay: Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa is notable for its wellness center, Le Spa . Rosewood Le Guanahani , Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf , Le Sereno , and Cheval Blanc St-Barth are more luxury options.

With many fascinating cities and towns, Germany has much to offer visitors, especially as the year’s end approaches and the country’s famous Christmas markets appear. “In early November, Berlin becomes jazzy,” A-list advisor Sofia Markovich of Sofia’s Travel tells T+L. “For 60 years, jazz musicians from Berlin and all over the world have come together to play at Jazzfest Berlin , one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe.” The capital will also celebrate the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall this year on Nov. 9. Munich , too, will be bustling in the late fall. As Markovich says, “The Tollwood Winter Festival returns this November, bigger and brighter than ever before! Full of handicrafts, organic German delicacies, colorful lights, and illuminated artworks, the festival also includes free performances.” In Frankfurt , November is opera season and a pleasant time to wander among historic buildings and quaint shops.

Where to Stay: T+L readers voted for their favorite Berlin hotels in the 2024 World’s Best Awards survey — and the city’s stylish Provocateur Hotel is worth a stay, too. In Frankfurt, stay at Gekko House , an urban boutique with a rooftop lounge and skyline view.

“Early November is still ideal weather in Marrakesh, with average highs in the mid to upper 70s,” says A-list advisor Michael Diamond of Cobblestone Private Travel. “Late November is shoulder season. The busy high season is behind us, and the crowds dissipate.” Clear November skies are perfect for a hot air balloon ride and panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains, the desert, and the city. Stroll through the medina, tour Bahia Palace , explore Jemaa el Fna Square, and shop for artisan items at the souks. The Marrakech International Film Festival is planned for Nov. 29-Dec. 7, offering a unique experience for film fans.

Where to Stay: Three Marrakesh hotels were named among T+L readers’ favorite urban properties in North Africa in the 2024 World’s Best Awards . For more options beyond that list, consider the Park Hyatt Marrakech , which opened in July on 19 acres at the base of the Atlas Mountains and comes with a golf course, spa, and kids club, or try the Kasbah Tamadot a bit further away from the city. Nestled in the Atlas Mountains, this property features new three-bedroom riads and luxurious Berber tents.

“November is a very nice month to travel to Argentina,” according to A-list advisor Jen Richt . Buenos Aires and Mendoza, she notes, are especially pleasant, with the late-spring climate offering warm days, cool nights, and lots to do outdoors. The Buenos Aires Jazz Festival , Nov. 2-5, and Primavera Sound , Nov. 23-24, are major music events, and polo season begins in November, too. “In Mendoza,” Richt says, “with the end of winter, the snow and ice melt in the Andes, and the rivers become active and inviting for white water rafting and kayaking.” Outdoor adventures like climbing, ziplining, and mountain biking are all possible in November across Mendoza’s rivers, valleys, lakes, and mountains — and, if you’re more of an indoorsy type, hundreds of vineyards offer tours and tastings of the region’s famous Malbec.

Where to Stay: Casa Lucia on Buenos Aires’ stylish Calle Arroyo opened early this year with views of the Rio de la Plata, while, a few blocks away, the Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt Buenos Aires features a spa and five-star amenities. In Mendoza, stay at SB Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites , a luxury hotel by Argentine winemaker Susana Balbo.

November is springtime in Brisbane, with temperatures in the 70s and lots to do both indoors and out. Queen’s Wharf, a $3.6 billion development set to open in August, offers luxury hotels, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment, while Bluey’s World — an immersive experience based on characters from the hit TV show Bluey — promises to delight young visitors once it opens on Nov. 7. For the artsier crowd, November is time for the The Long Sunset music festival, featuring Australian artists, yoga, and camping the first weekend of the month at Elysian Fields, a venue one hour south of town. From my own trip to Brisbane a couple of years ago, I can recommend two activities: cruising the Brisbane River and visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary , where I fed kangaroos and saw koalas.

Where to Stay: The Star Brisbane , a new Queen’s Wharf hotel, opens Aug. 29 on the banks of the Brisbane River, and Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre is a convenient boutique option. On my visit, I stayed at The Westin Brisbane and loved the river view and cozy bedding.

November is shoulder season in Hawaii with smaller crowds (except Thanksgiving week), ideal for a getaway before the busy year-end holidays. The weather is warm and, while you may see a shower or two, there should be more sunshine than clouds. There are plenty of events this time of year, too, from the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival (it comes to Oahu Nov. 6-10) to the various surfing competitions that pop up each year to take advantage of the North Shore’s powerful November waves. With fewer visitors around, you’ll be left in relative peace while you snorkel at Hanauma Bay, browse the Bishop Museum and Iolani Palace, visit the Arizona Memorial, or just enjoy local restaurants and relax at the hotel pool.

Where to Stay: We've rounded up some of the best hotels in Honolulu , but new highlights include two properties from the Romer group: the adults-only Romer House Waikīkī and the Romer Waikīkī at The Ambassador . Renaissance Honolulu Hotel & Spa and Ka Laʻi Waikīkī Beach debuted in early 2024, and there’s the surf-themed Twin Fin and luxurious Prince Waikiki .

From Dia de los Muertos traditions early in the month to the start of the holiday season with Nov. 29’s Ford Holiday River Parade and river lighting ceremony, San Antonio is festive in November. The San Antonio River Walk is one of the city’s most popular attractions, and it’s even more beautiful during the holidays when the lights glow from sundown to sunrise every day. Touted as the culinary capital of Texas, San Antonio is one of two U.S. cities to be named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. The new Pullman Market , set in a vintage glass factory, highlights quality cuisine, and the southwest campus of the Culinary Institute of America is located in San Antonio. Visitors can explore the city’s history, art, and culture, and families can enjoy nearby amusement parks like Six Flags Fiesta Texas .

Where to Stay: Thompson San Antonio - Riverwalk , steps from the Museum of Art, the historic Alamo, and the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, features a pool deck, rooftop restaurant, and spa. The new InterContinental San Antonio opened Aug. 1 with skyline and river views, a rooftop pool, and stylish rooms, while nearby, the Mokara Hotel & Spa provides another great city center option.

About 70 miles south of Denver, Colorado Springs is a beautiful November destination, with early winter skiing at some resorts, hiking in the Garden of the Gods, and more. Home of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, the city is the perfect place to continue the excitement of the Paris Summer Olympic Games. History buffs will enjoy the Western Museum of Mining & Industry and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum , which reopened in July after a major renovation. The Ford Amphitheater , a $90 million, 8,000-seat concert venue with five rooftop bars, fire pit suites, and upscale dining, made its debut in August, rivaling Denver’s famed Red Rocks. If your early November trip starts in Denver, don’t miss Denver Arts Week , Nov. 1-10.

Where to Stay: The new Mining Exchange Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs began in 1902 as a haven for mining magnates and investors. Completely reimagined, the hotel combines vintage style and modern comfort. If you’re seeking a more established favorite, The Broadmoor offers a variety of accommodations, restaurants, and activities and has been serving well-heeled visitors for over a century.

From colorful autumn foliage until at least mid-month to the twinkling lights of the early holiday season, November is a great time to visit the Ozarks. The chill in the air makes it perfect to be outdoors with a round of golf, and a variety of trails (including several that are wheelchair-friendly) welcome hikers of all levels. Attractions like Silver Dollar City are decked out in their harvest-time finery at the start of the month, and at Big Cedar Lodge , you can get a taste of both pumpkin season and Christmas cheer. The resort hosts the annual Gobble Wobble 5K and offers a special Thanksgiving menu. From Nov. 6 until Dec. 31, there’s “Home for the Holidays,” when the resort becomes a winter wonderland with more than four million twinkling lights, an ice skating rink, baking and craft workshops, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and family games.

Where to Stay: Big Cedar Lodge features accommodations from guest rooms to log cabins. Nearby Springfield and Branson also offer a wide range of places to stay.

Visitors to Las Vegas are never at a loss for something fun to do, and with November’s cooler weather comes the return of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix . Scheduled for Nov. 21-23, this edition of the race is expected to top last year’s event in popularity. Auto enthusiasts will also want to mark their calendars for the annual Concours at Wynn Las Vegas , a car show running from Nov. 1-3. If cars aren’t your thing, there are, of course, plenty of other attractions. From Caesars Entertainment residencies and shows to Cirque du Soleil acrobatics, top-name concerts, and amusement park-style rides, Las Vegas continues to offer entertainment for all. My personal tip is to check out The Sphere — I saw the “Postcards from Earth” film there on my latest visit to this ever-evolving city, and the venue hosts great musical performances, too.

Where to Stay: I recently stayed at two new properties: the elegant Fontainebleau Las Vegas (where I had an exceptional Peking duck at Chyna) and Durango Casino & Resort , a southwest Vegas property that’s home to the fabulous Nicco’s steakhouse. There’s a hotel for every taste and budget here, whether you’re after fine dining, celebrity chefs, a luxe spa, an exciting casino, or a restful suite — check out our list of the best Las Vegas hotels for more inspiration.

The chill in the air makes November a perfect time to sample the famed pinot noirs of the Willamette Valley’s 700+ wineries. Exploring the outdoors with a hike, searching out historic covered bridges on a road trip, or getting into the holiday spirit at the Silverton Christmas Market are more ways to enjoy late autumn. During November, which is Native American Heritage Month , the Willamette Valley recognizes the Indigenous communities who have lived in the area for thousands of years. The Chachalu Museum and Cultural Center and the University of Oregon’s Museum of Natural and Cultural History are excellent places to learn about this Indigenous Oregon history.

Where to Stay: The Allison Inn & Spa , where I enjoyed an exceptional weekend of wine and music in an art-filled setting a few years ago, will mark its 15-year anniversary with events from Nov. 15-17. A half-hour southwest of that property, the city of McMinnville offers a wide range of lodging, including the Tributary Hotel in a downtown historic building and the hip, 36-room Atticus Hotel .

Don Eim/Travel + Leisure

The Big Apple is the place to warm up to the holiday spirit in November. The air is crisp, and twinkling lights, Christmas trees, candy canes, and traditional decorations appear in parks, corporate lobbies, and on just about every corner. The Bryant Park Winter Village is in full swing, ice skating rinks at Rockefeller Center and Central Park are ready for skaters, and department store windows reveal their holiday decor. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a November tradition, and the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall kick off the Christmas Spectacular (pun intended!) on Nov. 8. There’s always lots to see and do, even before holiday celebrations begin, with museums, Broadway theater, top restaurants, and shopping.

Where to Stay: Virgin Hotels New York topped the list of our readers' favorite hotels in New York City in this year's World's Best Awards. We also have suggestions for the best boutique hotels in NYC .

Cool, dry weather in the 60s makes November an ideal time to enjoy the outdoors in Albuquerque. Hike in the Sandia Mountains, explore the fascinating Petroglyph National Monument, or enjoy the panoramic views from the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, which whisks riders up a nearly three-mile journey to the peak. Check out Albuquerque’s 50-mile activity loop , a multi-use trail around the city for cyclists, runners, and walkers, for a unique way to see the city, the mountains, and the Rio Grande Valley. Known for the popular October International Balloon Fiesta , Albuquerque hosts hot air balloon rides in November as well — and visitors can learn about ballooning at the downtown Balloon Museum . At the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center , visitors can learn about the Pueblo culture, dine on Indigenous food, and shop for authentic Native American art, pottery, rugs, and more. Finally, from Nov. 30-Dec. 30, be sure to check out the exciting River of Lights at ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden.

Where to Stay: Hotel Chaco and Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town are located in the city’s historic area, while the new retro-style Imperial Motel is located along Route 66. An hour away in Santa Fe, the luxurious Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection is set in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

A trip to the Swiss Alps in November appeals to those who want to save some money and avoid the peak ski season crowds. Ski season doesn't officially start until December, but there are several cable cars and ski resorts, including Saas-Fee and Zermatt, that may open early if they see snowfall. If you arrive before the snow, don't fret: You can trade shredding powder for hiking or biking various resorts' trails. The Maldives is consistently warm year-round, but some of the best weather happens during its dry season. November marks the beginning of the transition out of the wet season, offering sunnier days that are ideal for lounging on the island nation's white sand beaches and enjoying water sports activities like windsurfing and Jet Skiing. Thanks to the decrease in rainfall, this is also one of the best times for snorkeling and scuba diving. When you need a break from the beach, take a speedboat to the capital city of Malé, where there are plenty of sights, markets and restaurants to explore.

Spring is in full swing in Argentine Patagonia in November. The month's comfortable daytime temperatures, which rest in the 60s, are perfect for exploring Argentine Patagonia's many natural wonders. If you can look past the increase in rainfall, Crete in November yields some pretty big wins. Not only do hotel prices fall and crowds thin out, but several events also take place throughout the month. Visit during St. Minas Parade on Nov. 11 or time your trip for the Tsikoudia Festival, a celebration of the art of raki making. Although this isn't the prime time for relaxing on Crete's beaches, travelers will enjoy checking out top attractions like the Palace of Knossos and wandering through Rethymno Old Town. Be sure to book your accommodations in advance, as many resorts will be closed for the season.

Though you can expect chilly weather (think: average temperatures in the mid-40s), a November trip to Hungary's capital city is well worth your while. The hordes of tourists who descend on Budapest come summer have left, making it a prime time for scoring hotel deals. Take advantage of the relative quiet by warming up with a relaxing soak in Budapest's thermal baths or touring the Hungarian House of Parliament building. Just don't forget to save time for exploring Fisherman's Bastion, a neo-Gothic style structure boasting lookout towers and terraces with panoramic views of the city.

Situated on the southern coast of Croatia overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik boasts grand medieval architecture and fascinating historical sites. Average temperatures sit in the mid-60s in November and rainy days are likely, so this isn't the best time to lounge on the city's picture-perfect beaches . But it is the best time to visit for travelers hoping to avoid the crowds and protect their wallets. You'll find shorter lines at popular attractions like the Walls of Dubrovnik, and you'll rub elbows with fewer strangers when strolling through Dubrovnik's scenic Old Town.

Located along the U.S.-Mexico border, Big Bend National Park is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Spanning 800,000-plus acres and featuring more than 150 miles of hiking trails, this Texas national park receives upward of 500,000 visitors per year. Although you'll no doubt encounter other tourists during your vacation (November kicks off the park's peak fall season), the pleasant temperatures in the 60s and 70s are worth battling the crowds. Because of the park's popularity during this time, be sure to book your accommodations early.

Visiting Istanbul during the city's shoulder season provides several perks. Summer tourists have vacated, leaving behind crowd-free attractions and affordable room rates. Plus, average temperatures are still comfortable in the 50s and 60s, meaning travelers don't need to worry about packing their snow boots (although rain is likely). Spend your vacation exploring this Turkish city's gorgeous mosques (the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are must-visit landmarks), perusing the Topkapi Palace Museum or strolling through the Besiktas and Beyoglu districts for a taste of local culture.

Visit Curacao at the end of its offseason to score major deals on airfare and accommodations. Though you'll come across some rain during a November vacation, you won't have to worry about the threat of a hurricane thanks to the island nation's location outside of the Caribbean's hurricane belt. Luckily, showers mostly occur at night, leaving you plenty of time to soak up some sun on the island's white sand beaches . Head to Playa Lagun or Cas Abao Beach to swim and snorkel, or take a stroll down the Handelskade pier to admire the colorful buildings and gorgeous water.

Sitting about 70 miles southeast of Portland in the Mount Hood National Forest, Mount Hood is the highest point in Oregon. It is also one of the most-climbed mountains in the world, making it a popular getaway destination for adventure travelers. In the evening, warm up by the fireplace at one of the destination's many cozy lodges and inns.

A November getaway to the Big Apple means cooler temperatures and plenty of entertaining events, including the New York Comedy Festival. Travelers can admire the stunning fall colors that paint Central Park, check the exhibits on display at the world-famous Metropolitan Museum of Art or go ice skating at one of the many rinks that open around the holidays. Keep in mind, during popular events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the New York City Marathon, crowds descend on the city and hotel prices surge.

Shenandoah National Park's stunning fall foliage and comfortable weather (think: temperatures in the low 50s to low 60s) last through mid-November, making this a great time to take in the landscape while exploring the park. Hit up the Virginia park's miles of hiking trails, including popular (albeit challenging) Old Rag Mountain and Fort Windham Rocks, which is part of the Appalachian Trail. Or, bring a bike and enjoy a scenic ride down tree-lined Skyline Drive.

November means winter is fast-approaching the UK , which equals getting up and going home in the dark, usually in the pelting rain, no winter coat on earth a match for the season’s creeping damp. It’s almost NHS-prescribed that you pick a November holiday destination to survive until the sunlight finally peeps through again around March . Happily, the Caribbean is basking in a mellow, pre-Christmas glow, while the rainy season has dried up in East Africa and South-east Asia . And if you want to see how winter is really done, leave behind our soggy isles for epic white-outs in the extreme north and south. So, without further ado, these are the 31 best holiday destinations in November. For more, see our guide to where is hot in November .

31 best holiday destinations in November

chiang mai light festival

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Temperature: 30°C high; 18°C low Season: dry season/winter Travel time from UK: 14 hours Time difference: GMT+7

Thailand is the dream destination all year round, but in November, the rocky North is lit up by thousands of floating lights. There are two annual festivals held in Chiang Mai to coincide with the full moon during this month, both lighting up the night but in slightly different ways. Loy Krathong is the larger one, a nationwide celebration where small, candle-lit boats made from banana stalks and leaves set sail on the rivers. The other, Yi Peng, is primarily celebrated in Chiang Mai, and involves the release of lanterns into the sky. Whether by water or air, these glittering festivals immerse visitors in a magical atmosphere straight out of Disneyland . Chiang Mai is also ideal in November for its climate, with the rainy season coming to a close while the hot temperatures remain. Tour the 300+ wats (Thai places of worship) scattered across the city or explore the Doi Inthanon National Park, home to several waterfalls and the country’s highest mountain.

Where to stay: Four Seasons Chiang Mai is one of our favourite hotels in Thailand , offering pool villas scattered across 31 acres of manicured gardens and rice paddies. For a wellness boost, Aleenta Retreat is a stylish newcomer to the hotel scene with one of the country’s best spas .

Lisbon, Portugal

Temperature : 20°C high; 12°C low Season : autumn Travel time from UK: 2 hours 45 minutes Time difference: GMT +0

As most of mainland Europe shivers, Portugal remains enviably mild: Lisbon ’s average November temperature is 18°C. Of course, it’s not just the weather that makes this cobbled capital so alluring: now ranking among Europe’s coolest city breaks , it’s a hive of high-end but refreshingly affordable restaurants , raucous hole-in-the-wall bars and covetable concept stores (not to mention those cute, canary-yellow vintage trams). Lisbon was even named Europe's most budget-friendly city break for 2023 . Make time to explore neighbourhood-of-the-moment Cais do Sodré, a formerly sketchy part of town that now has a spruced-up riverfront promenade, cool warehouse conversions and fab food stalls at Time Out -curated Mercado da Ribeira.

Where to stay: Tropical-themed The Ivens gets our pick for one of the best new hotels in the world for 2022. If you're after a view, try this rooftop Airbnb near Alfama or Memmo Alfama which has one of the best rooftop pools in the city. For more, see our edit of the best hotels in Lisbon .

Sayulita, Mexico

Temperature: 33°C high; 20°C low Season: dry Travel time from UK: 15 hours Time difference: GMT -5

Join the hippies in this Pacific coast surf town, where brightly painted design boutiques and vintage surfboard shops rub up against al pastor stands and street eats sold from wheelbarrows. Less glam than Tulum, but much hipper than resort-y Puerto Vallarta further south, it’s an easy-breezy scene, more catching waves and afternoon Margaritas than yoga and cold-pressed juice. An absence of major hotels, in favour of hippie-chic guesthouses ( Casa Love and Petit Hotel Hafa are favourites), gives the impression of a best-kept secret – but, come Christmas, Sayulita is packed. Nip in just before peak season, though, and not only have the summer rain and humidity finally eased off, but it’s the best time for whale watching, too. Or consider staying in Sayulita’s quieter neighbour, San Pancho. The small hotels here are closely tied to the community. Tailwind Jungle Lodge , for example, hosts community events, donates to sustainable development in the area and promotes local businesses to guests – and it’s just a 30-minute drive to Sayulita for a day’s surfing.

Where to stay: Just 36 guests are given the run of green jungle, white beach and blue water across 250 acres at Imanta Resorts Punta de Mita .

Athens, Greece

Temperature : 18°C high; 12°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 3 hours 40 minutes Time difference: GMT+2

Athens makes a brilliant and warm weekend city break, where the new youth culture is breathing life into this historical city and hip young start-ups are booming in the face of austerity. Performances spaces, art galleries and quirky bars have sprung up in once-gritty neighbourhoods, and high-end shops have been reborn as restaurants. Go in November, when it's cool enough to wander around the Acropolis and the Parthenon and still have a crisp blue-sky backdrop to your Instagram shots. The fact that you'll also skip the crowds is the cherry on top.

Where to stay: Foodies won't want to miss xenodocheio Milos , a hotel by chef Costas Spiliadis. For something playful, check in to one of the compact but comfy rooms at Gatsby Athens . Design hotel NEW packs a punch, with upcycled furniture and a rooftop restaurant. For an eco-friendly trip, consider a stay at the Coco-Mat hotel , where the all-natural, locally handmade mattresses and linens are just the tip of their stay-natural philosophy. There are also wooden bikes for eco-friendly sightseeing, an onsite herb garden and homemade, seasonal food. For more, see our pick of the best hotels in Athens .

Antigua and Barbuda

Temperature: 29°C high; 23°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 8 hours 35 minutes Time difference: GMT-5

Friday nights in Antigua go something like this: rum punch and barbecued spiny-tailed lobster, dancing barefoot on the beach in the moonlight, and walking home sandy and dishevelled but happy the next morning. The island is as wild and wonderful as it is flashy - away from the five-star hotels and super yachts, you can still find empty white-sand beaches. Support conservation and biodiversity by booking an ecotour at Wallings Nature Reserve , the first-ever community-managed national park. Learn about the history and the wildlife as you hike this not-for-profit sanctuary. Antigua's little sister Barbuda is more go-slow, with a handful of low-key hotels.

Where to stay: We recommend Jumby Bay , a secluded 300-acre island off the north coast of Antigua.

East Sussex England

The South Downs, England

Temperature : 11ºC high; 3ºC low Season: autumn/winter Time difference: none

Fairweather walkers should probably stick to summer. But for blustery yomps along the beach or over Downs, followed by local ales fireside in some toasty, well-restored boozer – which the area has in spades – autumn is a treat of a time for a South Downs weekender. South Downs National Park spans 165 conservation areas, more than a dozen European wildlife sites, and thousands of listed buildings and monuments, with the South Downs Way stretching 100 miles. The walk is broken up into short sections and is nicely signposted for cyclists and walkers. Visit The Sustainability Centre , which hosts workshops for children and adults throughout the year. And on 5 November it hosts the most spectacular Guy Fawkes’ Night anywhere, when the market town of Lewes becomes the bonfire capital of the world, with processions, fireworks displays, flaming tar barrels and burning effigies illuminating its streets.

Where to stay: At The Pig in the South Downs , featured on our 2022 hot list of the best new hotels in the world. We also love The Star , a wonderful 15th-century inn given a fresh makeover in 2021 by Olga Polizzi.

Temperature: 4°C high; -2°C low Season: winter Travel time from UK: 2 hours 50 minutes Time difference: GMT +0

November brings Iceland’s dark winter nights and, with them, the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Oh yes, you’ll be told to manage your expectations, that aurora-hunting is a tricky business, but in a country where it’s not unheard of to see the dance of the green veils as you exit the airport, you’d have to be rather luckless to miss out. Stack the odds in your favour by staying somewhere as deliciously remote as Eleven Deplar Farm. Iceland’s best hotel is a high-end hideout on the remote Troll Peninsula, with diversions ranging from sensory-deprivation pods to heli-skiing excursions.

Where to stay: Scandi-rustic Eleven Deplar Farm is the most extraordinary stay in the country. The newly opened Reykjavik Edition is a great central option, with a notable rooftop terrace for viewing the northern lights. For something private, rent this unique glass cabin on Airbnb . See our guide to the best hotels in Iceland for more recommendations.

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Temperature: 25°C high; 10°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 11 hours Time difference: GMT-8

Frank Lloyd Wright said Arizona deserved its own architecture; that the state invited a distinctive, desert aesthetic. So he set about scattering that legacy across the barren landscape from his winter home and studio, Taliesin West in Scottsdale – just outside the state capital, Phoenix, and perhaps the ultimate manifestation of mid-century Arizona style. So it was only a matter of time until Phoenix dropped its decades-long reputation as an arid, old-school spa town and adopted that of an edgy, visual arts hub. Inevitably, the hip young things descended, bringing cool and culture, too. Taliesin West is now an art museum and architecture school; downtown, Bentley Gallery at Bentley Projects shows exciting mid-career artists under the exposed pipes of a restored warehouse and former laundry. Today’s Phoenix is the sort of place to drink cocktails in an Art Deco landmark (Bitter & Twisted), before retiring to a fabulously retro hotel designed by a Wright protégé, once frequented by Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant ( Hotel Valley Ho ). For the best view of the city, though, you’ve got to hike up red-rock Camelback Mountain – an easier proposal in November’s mid-20s temperatures.

Where to stay: Choose a hotel that takes advantage of its place in the ‘Valley of the Sun’ and uses solar power, such as The Phoenician , set across 250 acres of the Sonoran Desert, or the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort .

Essaouira, Morocco

Temperature: 22°C high; 15°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 6 hours Time difference: GMT+0

For a blast of winter sun a short hop away, Morocco is ideal - even for a weekend break. Along the coast are windswept beaches and surf towns such as Taghazout and Tamraght, where it's all about chilling out in the sun. Essaouira is a feast for the senses: freshly-caught fish is grilled over smoking-hot coals in shacks right on the harbour, and shisha smoke rises from rooftop bars. Jimi Hendrix and Cat Stevens used to hang out here, and it's still a free-spirited place, with dozens of independent galleries and boutiques selling locally made pottery and crafts. Make time for a spot of ethical shopping. Mashi Mushki, which sells locally made art and crafts, donates a portion of profits to Project 91, which helps young people in Essaouira find employment. Swanky (and sustainable) boutique hotel Villa Maroc sells Argan oil made by a local cooperative.

Where to stay: At Didier Spindler's maximalist B&B Dar Adul . For something more romantically rustic try Villa Maroc or Auberge Tangaro .

Tenerife

 Tenerife, Spain

Temperature : 23ºC high; 18ºC low Season: autumn Flight time from UK : 4 hours 30 minutes Time difference: none

Short-hop year-round sunshine is what Tenerife is known for. Which is great – but beyond the beaches and the package holiday crowds, there’s another side to this Canary Island which delights the more curious traveller: architecture in the colonial towns of La Laguna and La Orotava, low-key restaurants in fishing villages such as Garachico, lunar landscapes to walk in its blackened interior, and contemporary art and architecture in the capital Santa Cruz. The waters around Tenerife are busy with whales, and with whale-watchers. Not all whale-watching trips are responsibly operated – check out their eco-certification first. Whale Wise Eco Tours use solar-powered electric boats to minimise noise and carbon footprint. Plus, 200 miles out in the Atlantic, the island is one of the best places in the world for stargazing .

Where to stay: Families love the pink palace that is The Ritz-Carlton Abama . For something more boutique, book a room with a terrace at La Laguna Gran Hotel.

If what you want is a hit of winter sun, somewhere remote with wide open spaces, and just a short flight away from the UK, then Oman may just be the place you were looking for. Muscat is where you'll find age-old traditions, elaborate mosques and scent-filled souks. On the west coast, the Musandam Peninsula has empty coves and always-warm green-blue water, hidden by the imposing Hajar mountains. For more dramatic scenery still, travel along the southern coast, camping among the dunes in goat's-hair Bedouin tents. Choose an overland camping adventure with Responsible Travel that spirits you across the desert from the capital, Muscat, to incongruously green Salalah in the south. As well as visiting traditional fishing villages and learning about Bedouin life from local guides, you’ll stop by Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve and the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary.

Where to stay: The Chedi in Muscat is made up of low-built villas set in gardens of oranges. At Six Senses Zighy Bay, the pool villas embrace traditional Omani style and are carved out of stone. For a grown-up mountain retreat, try Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort , one of Oman’s most ambitious wilderness hotels.

Namibia

Namibia, Africa

Temperature : 31ºC high; 16ºC low Season: dry season/winter Flight time from UK : 10 hours 30 minutes Time difference: GMT+1

The vast, remote landscapes of Namibia are some of the most magnificent on earth. Mountainous dunes, endless empty desert, untouched savannah where the big hitters of African wildlife roam: elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, rhinos, giraffes. In recent years, a crop of knock-out new camps is allowing wildlife lovers to discover the farthest stretches of this country. While November brings the start of the rains in Namibia, this is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to wildlife variety and sheer drama.

“Across most of southern Africa, November is an interesting month. It is a time of transition – giving travellers an amazing experience of the end of the dry season and the spectacular breaking of the rains,” says Chris McIntyre, founder of specialist tour operator Expert Africa . At the tail end of the dry season, wildlife gathers at the waterholes in places such as Etosha National Park. Then as the rains roll in, when storm clouds gather over the mountains and plains, the landscapes begin to bloom again.

“Swiftly following the greening of the land is a flush of new life, as more insects, reptiles, amphibians and migrant birds appear on the scene,” says McIntyre. And as it’s low season, prices are appealing low, too.

Where to stay: Many of Namibia’s incredible new lodges are eco-friendly with a minimal footprint and work with local communities and conservation groups. In the Huab River valley, Damaraland Camp is a pioneer of community-based tourism – a partnership between Wilderness Safaris and the local Torra Conservancy. Hoanib Valley Camp works with the local community and Giraffe Conservation Foundation. Expert Africa can arrange bespoke itineraries to Namibia. We also love Habitas Namibia , a wellness-focused, people-driven safari camp.

Verbier, Switzerland

Temperature: 3°C high; -6°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 1 hour 40 minutes Time difference: GMT+1

In Switzerland ’s Verbier, the emphasis is on fun. The smugly proficient can get their free-ride fix with the best back-country skiing in the Alps. The forever hopeless can just park their planks and whoop it up tobogganing instead. The apres scene is second-to-none: Farm Club has been a snooty institution for nearly half a century, with its haughty door policy and past guests including Diana Ross. And the hotels aren’t your average chalet set-up, belonging to the likes of Design Hotels and Small Luxury Hotels Group. Several lifts open in early November (weekends only), thanks to good snow cover at higher altitudes – your best chance to ski in and then ski the hell out before the high-season crush.

Where to stay: Paris-based cocktail crew The Experimental Group are behind speakeasy on the slopes Experimental Chalet .

New Zealand

Temperature: 22°C high; 12°C low Season : spring Flight time from UK: 24 hours Time difference: GMT+11

On New Zealand's South Island, you can ski in the morning and sunbathe in the afternoon. It's action-packed, with wild swimming, white-water rafting, glacier hiking, bungee-jumping, sky-diving, horse-riding… On the North Island, you'll find hot springs – pure bliss – and off the coast of Auckland, some of the most amazing beaches you'll ever see. Take a couple of weeks out to do a classic campervan trip when the islands are at their most Middle Earth-y. New Zealand has its own breed of super lodges in superlative settings, from remote bays to rugged mountaintops and beside lakes so enormous and awe-inspiring it's difficult to comprehend. Visit the small seaside town of Kaikoura, not far from Christchurch, is widely hailed NZ’s most sustainable spot. Known for its resident sperm whale population and regular blue whale sightings, the town has established a community trust, Whale Watch, owned by the local Maori people. Not only is this a multi-award-winning, responsible whale-watching operator, but it reinvests profits in community education and employment, and the local environment. Check out the brilliant Hapuku Tree Houses and Lodge too, with locally sourced food, composting and recycling programmes, salvaged interiors and a native tree-planting scheme.

Where to stay: Matakarui Lodge in Queenstown is the country’s favourite lodge.

Kerala

Kerala, India

Temperature : 31ºC high; 24ºC low Season: dry season/winter Flight time from UK : 10 hours Time difference: GMT+4.5

November marks the beginning of Kerala's dry season and the end of the monsoons, which bring God’s Own Country bursting forth in verdant green, from its palm-lined lakes to the richly biodiverse slopes of the Western Ghats. This is India at its most chilled, its sandy shores quieter than those in Goa, and the scent of Ayurvedic oils in the air. Exploring is a hassle-free delight here – pootling around the backwaters by boat for an insight into local life, or hiring a motorbike to seek out new beaches, or putting up at homestays with families.

Where to stay: The quiet colonial streets of Fort Cochin – one of the most charming places on the entire planet – are home to many lovely places to stay. One of the loveliest is Malabar House , Cochin’s original boutique hotel, arranged riad-like around a courtyard pool. Now their properties include a houseboat on Lake Vembanad.

Valletta, Malta

Temperature : 20°C high; 13°C low Season: autumn Travel time from UK: 3 hours 10 minutes Time difference: GMT +1

Down in the southern Med, between Sicily and the North African coast, November does not mean gloomy dark afternoons and morning frosts. Even though you might spot the odd red telephone box, that’s as far as the British influence extends – sunny Malta gets eight hours of shimmering rays a day this month, while the mercury floats, or perhaps gloats, at around 20°C. Better still, this is a European autumn sun break with more going for it than beaches (though it has those, too). Capital Valletta’s honey-coloured forts are so cinematically good-looking, they starred in Game of Thrones as King’s Landing, and the old town’s palazzos are lately finding new life as high-design hotels, such as millionaire philanthropist Mark Weingard’s upcoming Iniala Malta.

Where to stay: 66 Saint Paul’s on balconied Ursula Street has a tiny rooftop pool. Another option is Domus Zamittello , a restored baroque masterpiece with painted coffered ceilings.

Temperature : 23°C high; 8°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 12 hours 10 minutes Time difference: GMT+4:45

November is the optimum time for trekking in the Himalayas: it's not too hot, the sky is clear enough to see where you're going, the peaks and high passes are clear enough for trekking, and it's the tail-end of high season. (Note: porters are a common feature of Himalayan trekking, and while this does provide much-needed employment to impoverished rural Nepalese people, you must ask tour operators about policies on porters’ rights, and check the weight of loads they’re expected to carry: 25kg is the recommended maximum). Whichever route you're taking – the Annapurna Circuit and Everest are breathtakingly beautiful at this time of year – you're likely to pass through Kathmandu. The gateway city is a remarkable place to spend a few days in before or after trekking: for the Buddhist monasteries and stupas, gardens, enchanting old buildings and colonial air, shopping and the insanely good street food.

Where to stay: Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu has become the stuff of legend among wellness-seekers.

November ushers in Egypt’s mild winter, more akin to a good summer in England: Cairo this time of year basks in an average temperature of 25°C. It’s ideal weather for exploring the Pyramids of Giza, just a half-hour drive from the chaos of Cairo’s downtown. Tempted to take a boat trip down the Nile? Resist the big cruises, which are notorious for pollution, and opt for a small group sailing excursion on a traditional felucca instead.

Where to stay: At one of Cairo’s most prestigious hotels; the Nile Ritz-Carlton or the The St. Regis Almasa .

Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, USA

Temperature: 21°C high; 2°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 10 hours 45 minutes Time difference: GMT-8

There's nothing more dazzling than the firework-bright lights of The Strip at night. Nothing more tempting than the red and black flashes of a spinning roulette wheel. Nowhere more excessive, high-octane and brilliantly bonkers than here. And what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Then get the hell out of Vegas on a road trip from here down to New Mexico, through the canyons of Utah via the awesome Grand Canyon. Many national parks have Native American reservations nearby: an area allocated to indigenous people removed from their ancestral lands to make way for the park. If possible, visiting these reservations with a community guide is a great way to learn about the landscape’s history and support their economy. In the Grand Canyon, it’s possible to hike down from the rim into the remote Supai village, home to the Havasupai tribe for more than 1,000 years. Here there’s a campground, lodge, store and café – attempting to hike in and back within a day is not encouraged – but you must reserve in advance to enter.

Where to stay: At Resorts World Las Vegas , the first new resort to be built on the Las Vegas Strip in more than a decade.

Time’s running out to get to Cuba before it’s changed forever. The big resorts haven’t got to all the beaches yet, and Havana still has that rickety, time-warp romanticism going on – but for how long? Warm and sunny November is the ideal time to swing by before crowds fill out December to February. The silver lining? A fast-evolving boutique bar and hotel scene, catering to a more sophisticated traveller: in Havana, the colonial-cool of Twenties-era Casa Habana, or cocktails at 304 O’Reilly, a toy warehouse turned gin bar. Make time to escape to the Caribbean shores of Holguín, where you’ll find small, thatched, barefoot beach hotels with not a hint of a package deal.

Where to stay: Beach-front Villa Maguana is set in the Guantánamo Province of Cuba.

Temperature : 18°C high; 5°C low Season: dry Flight time from UK: 22 hours Time difference : GMT-4

A wild frontier, Patagonia is the vast and empty tip of South America . For every photogenic massif and glacier, there’s about a million more miles of desolate, scrubby steppe. Finding the glimmering diamonds in the rough is half the satisfaction, though: Welsh tea shops, teal lakes and crackling glacial tongues in Argentine Patagonia; then puma-tracking safaris and unforgettable treks in Chilean Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park, accompanied by the unearthly trio of granite peaks that give this rugged wonder its name. Mid- September to early May is the established season; December to February bring hiking hordes. Nip in during November when mild temperatures are ideal for outdoor adventure and spring’s a-blooming. Torres del Paine rewards the effort with several polished overnight options: try the geodesic domes of EcoCamp, or lakeside five-star humdinger Explora, which has views you’ll struggle to believe However, due to a lack of rules around land sales, large swathes of Patagonia have been bought up and turned over to either heavy industry or unscrupulous developers. This isn’t just bad for the natural landscape, but also for the Indigenous peoples for whom this environment is sacred. Make sure to visit national parks and local communities so that your money goes towards the right people and projects. Tour operators such as BlueGreen Adventures employ regional guides and source from locally owned businesses.

Where to stay: The Lodge at Valle Chacabuco is the smartest stay in Parque Patagonia.

“There are no guarantees in life but elk and taxes,” says the Yukon tourist board — but the chances of catching the Northern Lights in this Canadian hinterland are comfortably high. That’s because it’s such a stark wedge of territory — tundra and forests, lakes and mountains, the same size as Spain but home to just 40,000 hardy locals — creating ideally remote, unpolluted conditions for watching those elusive lights dance across the sky. November is considered the beginning of aurora season in most destinations, with some Scandinavian spots not fully open until December, but the Yukon’s nightly shows start as early as August. Still, with enough snow for days of dog-sledding, temperatures have yet to plunge to the fearsome depths of January and February (averaging -22C).

Where to stay: Tagish Wilderness Lodge is in a prime spot for viewing the northern lights. As are the glass chalets at the Yukon River Valley’s Northern Lights Resort & Spa .

Where better than the Great White South for a wintry getaway? Snowscapes don’t get more epic than Antarctica ’s, a bright-white wilderness so pure, you’d swear it’s CGI. A trip to the end of the world is far from barren, though. Keep busy gaping at far-off, frosted summits and colossal, mint-blue icebergs; snapping breaching orcas and stumbling penguins; not to mention getting jelly-legged on homemade Ukrainian vodka at the world’s southernmost pub. Expedition boats visit the peninsula November to March, when the Antarctic summer makes penetrating pack ice possible (temperatures hover around a toasty 1C). Landings get progressively muddier and boot-blighted as the season wears on; find the freshest powder in November, the first time tourism touches the continent after a seven-month break. Just make sure your tour operator is registered with IAATO, the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. In the likes of California , Arizona and Texas, the dusty desert cities have gone hipster; in Colorado, its cute little mountain towns are wending the same way. Telluride’s Victorian streets are now packed with fancy tacos, craft cocktails and bespoke ski shops; Boulder has bicycle cafés with taprooms and espresso bars; Aspen is still Aspen, glamorous and pricey, and resolutely on-trend (farm-to-table restaurants, speakeasies). High up in the Rockies, ski season has started, the towns have recovered from summer madness, but the December masses are yet to invade.

Seoul, South Korea

Temperature: 12°C high; 2°C low Season: autumn Flight time from UK: 11 hours Time difference: GMT+8

Seoul is an exciting city break with just the right mix of ease and exoticism: transport and general infrastructure are both exemplary, and there are also enough Confucian temples and dog cafés to keep a curious foreigner on their toes. South Korea’s flourishing economy has made its capital a hi-tech, high-design hub, positively pulsing with dynamic and fashionable youth culture. But the remnants of more austere and traditional times remain: cobbled streets and classic architecture, eccentric flea markets and scent-filled street-food alleys. November’s autumn colours make perfect portraits of Seoul’s many parks and hiking trails, while mild temperatures and low rainfall create a sweet spot for pavement-pounding (summer is wet and humid, the winter frigid).

November is a wonderful month for a short break in southern Spain, when the summer crowds have gone home and it's still T-shirt weather. Cádiz is a charming place, hanging off the edge of Spain, bleached white and with the sound of flamenco in the air. A hip new hotel scene is putting Seville in the limelight but still both cities are quieter than touristy Granada and Córdoba. Beyond Marbella's beach clubs, head out to the Sierra de las Nieves national park to go swimming in natural rock pools and kayaking on the dam. Málaga has carved itself a new reputation, with an offshoot of Paris' Pompidou Centre, a glassy cube on the dockside, joining The Picasso, Carmen Thyssen and Contemporary Art museums.

STEAK! TANGO! WINE! FOOTBALL! SHOES! Yes, Buenos Aires is the indisputable heartland of red meat, and red wine (don't tell the French). It's a colourful place: leafy in the north, with faded townhouses fronting beautiful Italianate façades in the south and bright and bold houses in La Boca near the old port. In San Telmo, the rhythm of tango is unmistakable. And the barrio of Boca is so crazy about football even the houses are painted in home colours. But it's a little-known fact that the Argentine city also has some of the best shopping in the world now that creatives are setting up on their own and opening concept stores in Palermo's crumbling casonas.

November is a great month to go to Hong Kong . It's not too steamy for sundowners in one of the rooftop bars overlooking Victoria Harbour, which lights up at 8pm every night for a light show; or for moseying around Chinatown. Foodies are spoilt for choice here, but make like the locals at street-food stalls in Wan Chai. Shopping and art are big business too. What's surprising, though, is the choice of beautiful beaches and hiking trails on surrounding islands such as Lantau and Lamma.

November is the start of proper winter in the UK, so you can’t be blamed for craving a dose of serious sunshine. Dubai is a clever contender – far enough away that the weather is almost guaranteed to be perfect but close enough to home that you won’t be struck down with jet lag for the entirety of your stay. Of course, there are glitzy hotels and beach clubs drawing in visitors. But there’s a lesser-known side to the city, too – some of our favourite things to do in Dubai include having supper in the desert at Sonara, where wood-fired pizzas and cocktails are served among the dunes and the opportunity to go on a desert safari, with Platinum Desert Safari.

Spring in Japan gets a lot of airtime. But for those in the know, autumn is every bit as beautiful as the trees flame into burnt orange and glorious red hues. In the capital, spend days hopping between Tokyo’s best restaurants and art galleries before catching one of the super-efficient trains to Kyoto , where the temples are surrounded by beautiful autumn foliage, or Osaka, where you can visit beautiful landscapes such as Minoo Falls. Just north of Tokyo, Nikko has World Heritage-listed temples and widescreen views of burnished gold and orange.

Where to stay: There are big hitters in Tokyo such as the Aman and the Mandarin Oriental . Try the Ace in Kyoto , or book the St Regis Osaka , which is spread across the top 16 floors of a skyscraper.

This is not the destination for a blast of sunshine and heat. But it can't be denied that some cities are simply better in winter . Toward the end of the month, you might get snow – and the city looks especially lovely when dusted with a frosting of white. You can eat at some of the world's best restaurants , such as Frantzen if you're planning to splash the cash, and you'll also find some of the best bars in the world here, too . Lucy's Flower Shop is set in the basement of a centuries-old building and serves up some of the city's best cocktails.

Warm places to visit in November: last chance for fall

warm places to visit november

On the cusp of the holiday season, now is the time to travel in peace. As December drops so do the high prices and maddening crowds that fill destinations and empty wallets. Happily, finding warm places to visit in November isn’t hard – though choosing which are best is.

Most of the US is pretty chilly by now , with the exception of a few warm coastal spots, especially Florida . The same can be said for much of Europe, though its subtropical southern islands never really get cold. Best then is to look for guaranteed hot spots . From the Middle East to the Far East, here’s where is hot in November.

Warm places to visit in November 2024

Filter below by price or temperature to find the best warm places to visit in November based on KAYAK data, or read on for my picks on where to go.

The best places to travel in November for warm weather

  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Sydney, Australia

The best warm places to visit in November in Asia

Asia is undoubtedly the focus for warm destinations in November. My five picks cover four countries and wildly different landscapes. Temperatures are consistently high and although rain is common, it tends to come in short heavy bursts. Check KAYAK data for other Asian hotspots like Kuala Lumpur and Taipei City .

1. Hong Kong

A male photographer stands at the mountaintop edge overlooking the sprawling cityscape against a dramatic sky.

  • Average November temperature: 72°F

An administrative region of China, Hong Kong is temperate and dry in November. Temperatures average 72°F and peak around 75°, making it a constant, comfortable warmth . It’s ideal weather to take advantage of Hong Kong’s many wonders – natural and manmade.

The city is an icon, its skyline among the most skyscraping and recognizable of any. Its streets buzz with life 24/7, a dazzling cultural mix of east and west – Mandarin, Cantonese and British.

Take a stroll along Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for awesome skyline views. Go in the evening to see the extraordinary nightly Symphony of Lights extravaganza. For the absolute best city panorama, ride the iconic Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak and hit the trails. The abundance of nature offers a startling contrast to the urban sprawl below.

2. Singapore

A male traveller with a backpack climbs the spiral staircase.

  • Average November temperature: 81°F

Tropical Asia is hot and wet all the time, and the climate in November in Singapore is no exception. Average temperatures hover around 81°F, but highs average a sweltering 86. The ten inches of rain that falls comes in regular daily bursts. Drenching humidity and regular downpours are just part of the megacity-state’s exotic charm though – and it’s built to handle it.

A skyline straight out of the movies houses some seriously luxe hotels . Stay at the enormous Marina Bay Sands to swim in the world’s highest rooftop infinity pool . Worth the price of admission for the views alone. Drink Singapore Slings in 19th century elegance at the historic Raffles .

When the rains fall, make for the Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum , and shop yourself silly on Orchard Road . It’s when the skies clear that Singapore really shines though. The city’s developing green spaces have rightly amazed the world in recent years. None more so than its already famed Botanic Gardens and the mind-bending Gardens by the Bay .

Singapore is an ode to modernity with its soul rooted in tradition – an enchanting and intoxicating destination.

3. Thailand

Yellow flower offerings hanged at the Spirit House in the gardens.

  • Average November temperature (Bangkok): 81°F

Bangkok sits atop the KAYAK data for warm places to visit in November. But if the big city isn’t what you’re after, look south some 140 miles to the coastal town of Hua Hin . Thailand’s original beach resort is a fine balance between beach escape and city break.

Much of the prime city beachfront is occupied by luxe hotels, from the excellent Anantara to my favorite, the eye-wateringly expensive Chiva Som . If your budget doesn’t stretch to such highs, don’t fret. There are lots of lovely, far less expensive options available. And the beaches of nearby Hat Sai Noi and Hat Sai Yai are prettier and more atmospheric.

In the city, the markets are the place to be. Chatsila Night Market is popular for its eating, from tasty street food to gourmet meals, but is tourist central. It’s Cicada Market that stands out though.

An authentic gathering of local artisans, it’s relaxed and focused rather than a traditional neon-lit free for all. Wander slowly and engage with the locals selling homemade wares. It’s usually alive with buskers and each evening around 8.30 pm, live music hits the stage.

4. Tokyo, Japan

An empty road overlooking Mount Fuji with snow capped peak, surrounded by warm coloured autumn foliage on a crisp sunny fall day

  • Average November temperature: 55°F

The world’s most populated metropolis ( 37 million inhabitants at last count) is in the grip of fall come November. Average temperatures are mild with highs climbing to 63°F and rain is light – around four inches for the month.

The outcome is a city painted in the fire of falling leaves. Blazing reds, yellows and oranges coat the parks and streets as Tokyo’s ginkgo, maple and zelkova shed their foliage. In enthusiastic locals it sparks momijigari – the ancient seasonal tradition of leaf hunting.

The most famous (and thus popular) place to see the fall foliage at its best is the gardens of Rikugi-en . In late November the park stays open until 9pm and lights the trees as darkness falls. In my view the city never looks more beautiful, even in the more popular spring cherry blossom.

5. Osaka, Japan

A yellow ferry gracefully glides beneath a bridge, while the bustling banks teem with pedestrians strolling amidst vibrant advertisements.

  • Average November temperature: 57°F

Around 310 miles southeast of Tokyo, Osaka shines a different light on the culture and history of Japan. An ancient merchant and port city , it eschews traditional Japanese conservatism for a louder, more fun-loving approach.

Marginally warmer and drier in November than Tokyo, it also enjoys the magic of fall colors in its many parks and gardens. Average highs are a lovely 64°F and the drenching humidity of summer is mercifully absent. With the inner city cooling down, the streets and canals come to life.

Street food is done differently here. In garish Dotonbori , take on the Kuidaore ‘eat until you drop’ challenge. Gorge on wagyu beef, giant king crabs, fugu puffer fish and my favorite, okonomiyaki (a savory pancake invented locally.)

Stay until the sun sets and watch the streets transform as a sea of neon lights spark into life. The reflections on the Dotonbori canal only add to the effect. Fast becoming one of Osaka’s most recognized landmarks, don’t miss the Glico Running Man , which has illuminated the area for nearly 90 years.

The best warm place to visit in November in North America

KAYAK data highlights Cancún as the top spot outside of the US in North America for fall warmth. If the mega resort town’s high prices and well heeled crowds aren’t your bag, Mexico has plenty of other enticing destinations.

I love the sleepy village of Nexpa for its fall surf and the rough-edged buzz of Ensenada on the Baja peninsula. Further afield, I’ve spent the last few Novembers in the Dominican Republic road-tripping its rugged north coast and in particular, the amazing Samaná Province.

A quaint village perched on a slope overlooks a tranquil bay, surrounded by lush wooded areas and verdant rolling hills in the distance.

  • Average November temperature ( Cancún ): 79°F

Mexico’s east coast tourism may be dominated by the glitz and glamor of Cancún but I prefer something more low-key. On Mexico’s pacific coast almost directly opposite Cancún, the temperatures are about the same but the vibe is very different.

For an out-and-out toes in the sand, picture book, anything goes vacation, join the boho crowd in Sayulita . This once-tranquil fishing village has transformed into a hippie-go-lucky hangout for surfers and bohemians.

Heading here in November means you’ll miss out on the peak season pile-on. The summer rains and cloying humidity have taken leave, and if you’re lucky some early season surf may roll in.

Sayulita is a designated Pueblo Mágico , a Magic Town , awarded to communities that maintain their original architecture, traditions and culture. It certainly hasn’t suffered from mass development like its neighbor, Puerto Vallarta .

In place of giant hotels and big brands, you’ll find locally-owned guesthouses and colorful boutiques. Rickety surf shops , good restaurants and even better al pastor stands line the streets. A lovely, lazy place to forget about your worries (and the cold) for a few days.

The best warm places to visit in November around the world

In November, spring is turning into summer Down Under. Long, bright and fast-warming days bring beaches and barbecues back to life. On the east coast, that means you’re spoiled for choice with some of the best weather in November, anywhere. The Saudi Arabian peninsula is at its very best in fall. Temperatures are hot but not crazy and the simmering desert heat is subsiding.

7. Sydney, Australia

People crowd excitedly at the vantage point, eagerly taking in the stunning natural beauty of the seaside landscape.

  • Average November temperature: 66°F

Weather-wise, November is the best month to make the most of New South Wales’ stunning coastal capital. The month before peak season kicks temperatures and crowds into high gear, November in Sydney is warm rather than scorching.

And there’s room to stretch on its many magnificent beaches. When the thermometer climbs, head for Bondi or its quieter sibling Bronte , magnificent Manly and the oasis of Gordon’s Bay . All are magic.

Milder days are for city exploring. Take photos on the steps of the Opera House. If you have a head for heights, scale the arc on the popular but pricey bridge climb . Descend into The Rocks , where street food stalls rub shoulders with world-class museums and old taverns share harbor views with expensive restaurants.

A short hop up the coast from Sydney (by Australian standards anyway) lies my favorite beach town. Byron Bay may have become something of a travel cliché , but there’s good reason behind its popularity. Peel back the tourist layers – frothing surfers, wellness warriors, wide-eyed backpackers – and you’ll discover the magic is still there .

8. Dubai, UAE

An aerial skyline of Dubai featuring its towering skyscrapers and marina.

  • Average November temperature: 75°F

The UAE’s city of gold is an oasis of technology and opulence in the middle of the desert . It’s also a beacon of Arabic culture and entertainment . Home to the biggest and the best of everything, Dubai is the perfect temperature in November. The swelter of summer has passed – temperatures peak at 85°F but average a more agreeable 75°. Rain is not a part of the conversation.

With a budget most cities can only dream of, its skyscrapers and parks are the definition of excess. Yet nothing is as spectacular as the Museum of the Future . A mind-bending showcase of modern architecture, step inside and you can travel to the moon and gaze back on Earth.

When it comes to accommodation, you’re spoiled for choice. If you really want to splurge for the holiday season, there’s only one address: Atlantis The Royal . Opened in 2023, it bills itself as the “most ultra luxury experiential resort in the world” . You’d be hard pressed to argue.

The blue sea flooding over the golden sand beach protected by rugged rock formations.

Just a two hour drive from the manmade mania of Dubai is a place of remoteness and isolation. Cut off from the rest of Oman by the UAE, the Musandam Peninsula is nicknamed the Norway of Arabia . The moniker comes from its impressive landscape where the Hajar Mountains meet the Strait of Hormuz .

Constant collisions between Eurasian and Arabian tectonic plates have created spectacular khors , rocky inlets that resemble the Nordic fjords. Empty roads snake the coastline connecting small towns and villages. The outlaw feel of the region’s smuggling past lingers in its cultural eccentricities.

Khasab is the main town and your base. A short but spectacular flight from Oman’s glitzy capital Muscat , it feels a world away. Here you can rent a 4x4 to get around and arrange a 4WD safari to Jebel Harim . Book your dhow cruise too – it’s undoubtedly the best way to see the peninsula in all its glory, and likely dolphins too.

Where is hot and cheap in November?

Warm places to visit in November in the US are few and far between, especially with a budget price. KAYAK data shows Florida is the hottest and cheapest with Fort Lauderdale and Orlando averaging in the low 70s and hotel prices well under $200 a night.

It’s Asia that offers the best hot and cheap vacation in November though. Thailand and Malaysia in particular swelter, their capital cities both averaging 81°F with hotel rooms around $50. Flights to each, however, cost around $1,200. Need help making a decision? Try KAYAK Explore .

If you can’t wait until November, my September and October guides to where’s hot also offer plenty of inspiration and perspiration. For the best events, parties and festivals, read the 10 best places to visit in October and November .

When it comes to booking, cheap flights , car rental and a place to stay are what KAYAK does best.

Yi Peng Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Every year, on the full moon of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar (November 15–16 this year), the skies of Chiang Mai become a true sight to behold. This is courtesy of the annual Yi Peng Lantern Festival , in which people release thousands of glowing orange paper lanterns into the air, to symbolize the release of any negativity from the past year and the invitation of positivity moving forward.

There are tons of other reasons to visit Thailand’s northern cultural capital, of course, from the thriving arts and design scene to steaming bowls of khao soi. When it comes to accommodations, you can’t do much better than Anantara Chiang Mai Resort . Although it’s just a short tuk-tuk ride away from Old Town, the property feels more like a country retreat, thanks to a bamboo wall encircling the entire resort, rooms with super-sized terraces, an infinity pool surrounded by lily ponds, and a decadent afternoon tea service.

Palais Suite Bedroom at Almanac Palais Vienna

Vienna, Austria

As one of the world’s cultural capitals, Vienna offers a constant string of concerts, operas, art fairs, and festivals. This November, visit the Austrian capital for the 20th anniversary of Vienna Art Week (November 8–15), where you can enjoy more than 100 events ranging from studio visits to live performances. The best part? All admission is free.

Keep the artistic vibes going by booking a stay at Almanac Palais Vienna , a boutique property that leans big into sensory experiences, including a revolving collection of works by up-and-coming talents. This season, the hotel will house two sculptures by the Viennese contemporary artist Erwin Wurm, leading up to his first solo exhibition at Galerie bei der Albertina in Vienna’s historic center. After the exhibition wraps, the Almanac will continue to host pieces from the gallery and unveil a dedicated Gustav Klimt suite.

November Places To Go Oaxaca Mexico

Oaxaca, Mexico

Mexico City isn’t necessarily the best place in the country to dive deep into the Day of the Dead celebrations, one of Mexico’s most ancient festivals. Instead, head down to Oaxaca : Mesoamerican cultures once held sway here, so when the Spanish arrived they co-opted the ancestor-honoring event and folded it into All Saints’ Day. Today, families build ofrendas , or altars, at home and decorate the graves of lost loved ones—expect to see marigolds everywhere and be offered a snack of pan de muerto, the sweet, round bread that’s intended as sustenance for the returning souls.

Remember that it’s as much somber as celebratory—much of what defines Dia de Los Muertos emerges in quiet, late-night contemplation. And don’t forget that Oaxaca is the spiritual home of tequila’s earthier counterpart, mezcal. Most of the best is made here—take a tour of the Montelobos distillery to sample it in situ, or try one of the local bars in town.

Panama City

November is shoulder season in Panama, as the wet weather of the winter disperses but the prices remain lower than in summer. It’s also when celebrations take place to mark the founding of the country—not once, but twice. On November 28, locals mark Independence Day, when this chunk of central America broke away from colonial Spain in 1821; November 3 is Separation Day, when Panama emerged as a self-governing country separate from Gran Colombia 82 years later. Traditionally, it’s an excuse for the entire month to feel like a party, with parades and fireworks held on a regular basis, all accompanied by thumping drum music.

Book a stay at the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo in Panama City, a 159-room grande dame in the colonial old town of the capital. Staying true to its history with French flair and uplifting design, this is a dazzling way to stay on the waterfront.

Berlin, Germany

It was 35 years ago—on November 9, to be precise—that Mr. Gorbachev tore down that wall. The fall of the Berlin Wall earned its place in the annals of global history, but you need to go straight to the source to truly appreciate and commemorate the momentous event. The German capital will be hosting a series of events and ceremonial acts on and around the 9th, including museum exhibitions and special guided walking and cycling tours.

For somewhere to rest up between tours, look no further than Château Royal . Steps away from the Brandenburg Gate, this Hot List 2023 winner boasts an address and style that are equally fabulous. Unwind in one of the hotel’s 93 guestrooms—adorned with vintage lamps and works by a local artist (each room is completely unique in that respect)—before venturing back out to explore more of Berlin.

Berkshires Massachusetts

The Berkshires, Massachusetts

A trip to the Berkshires is like jumping into the pages of an Edith Wharton novel, with Gilded Age mansions and throes of New York City weekenders. (You can even visit Wharton’s own house and gardens.) You could easily spend a few days casually exploring the region’s antique shops, farm-to-table restaurants, and luxury spas, but the main seasonal draw is, of course, the fall foliage—the trees are still colorful in mid-November here. Get the best views from the top of Mount Greylock , where you can see up to 90 miles away when the air is clear.

One of the best places to set up camp is Miraval Berkshires in the charming town of Lenox, where horse stables and cottage-style rooms will make you feel like you’re at an upscale sleepaway camp.

Emilia Romagna

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Though often overlooked for Tuscany’s bucolic hills and the Amalfi Coast’s glittering villages, Emilia-Romagna is well-deserving of the spotlight. The region especially shines in the autumn months, with temperatures hovering in the low 60s and festivals popping up to celebrate the area’s food and wine. Starting in October and stretching through the first weekend of November, the annual Tartufesta (White Truffle Festival) returns this year to the small village of Sasso Marconi surrounding Bologna, complete with markets, tasting menus, and truffle-hunting tours.

Another notable event is Baccanale in the town of Imola (October 19 to November 10), a multi-week festival focusing on a specific aspect of local gastronomy. This year’s theme is “Un filo d’olio” (which translates to “a thread of oil”), focusing on the prolific role oil—specifically olive oil—has played in Italian cuisine and culture.

Best Places to Travel in November St. Barts

Come hungry to St. Barts this November, when the island hosts its 11th annual Gourmet Festival from November 5–10. A collection of eight French chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants will cook and host a series of exclusive dinners, as well as wine tastings and amateur cooking competitions.

Another huge reason to visit the Caribbean island is the eternally chic Eden Rock , which continues to be a favorite hotel among our readers and editors . The property boasts suites with private plunge pools, views of the impossibly blue ocean, and some of the most spacious bathrooms you’ve ever seen. Just one night here will make you feel like the most glam, sun-kissed version of yourself.

Dromoland Castle Hotel Country Estate

Want to make Thanksgiving extra memorable this year? Head to Ireland, where your family can enjoy a holiday feast in an actual Irish castle. The 450-acre Dromoland Castle in County Clare is offering a special Thanksgiving package to guests from November 27–30, complete with the aforementioned feast, roaring fires, fine whiskeys, woodland walks, and a round of golf or two.

The castle dates back to the 16th century but recently underwent a $23 million renovation, meaning you can enjoy traditional decor and architectural details (arched windows, spiral staircases, and more) with modern touches like flatscreen TVs and outdoor hot tubs. The castle is also an easy drive away from the Cliffs of Moher, letting you experience one of the world’s most beautiful sites with ease.

La Digue seychelles

The Seychelles

Off the coast of Kenya , the 115 coral and granite islands of the Seychelles are home to lush jungles, spectacular waterfalls, pristine beaches, and some of the most beautiful resorts on the planet. The country also just so happens to be one of the best places to travel in November, representing a break between the humid northwest trade winds and the cooler southeast trade winds. In other words? The weather is absolutely perfect. You’ll also dodge the December high season, allowing you to really enjoy your sunbathing and scuba diving uninterrupted.

For what may end up being the most luxurious experience of your life, stay in one of the 11 fantasy villas at North Island . Bookended by a lush forest and coral-rich water, the resort offers every paradisiacal amenity, from marble tubs and outdoor showers to chefs who prepare meals right in your suite. Good luck returning to your snowy hometown after that.

There are around 50 wineries in Fredricksburg and the surrounding areas. That means you are within a drive away from some incredible wine and summery weather. If you want to skip the wine but enjoy the views, you can also bike through Hill Country .

As you plan your November getaway, check out our list of the top things to see and do in Fredricksburg .

Sunset over Beaufort, South Carolina.

Beaufort, South Carolina

Beaufort is home to the Southern charm we often dream of. One way to get to know the area quickly is through an informative and undeniably memorable carriage tour through town.

Downtown Beaufort has an abundance of shops and restaurants perfect for lazy strolling, snacking, and even stumbling upon perfect gifts for loved ones. After shopping, you can stay at historic inns or bed and breakfasts like the Rhett House Inn or the Beaufort Inn , both in the quaint historic district.

Amelia Island, Florida

Amelia Island in far north Florida is a great getaway from the brisk temperatures in November across the U.S.

Hit the links while on Amelia Island; golfing is one of the best experiences awaiting you there. There are quite a few superb courses. You can’t go wrong with any of our suggestions , but Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers golf without breaking the bank.

To get outside, make sure to walk around Fort Clinch State Park — a marvelous mix of history and local flora and fauna.

The Napali Coast on Kauai, Hawaii.

Kauai, Hawaii

Every inch of Kauai is gorgeous, but we recommend a few spots in particular.

Since part of Kauai’s magic is its uninterrupted and untainted scenery, one of the best ways to soak it all in is through a helicopter tour. Panoramic views of the island and the ocean are proof why Hawaii is so splendid to visit.

If you want to instead enjoy some fresh air and lace up your hiking boots, why not explore on foot instead? There’s a bounty of trails with your name on them, and the not-too-hot, not-too-cold temperatures are compatible with a full day of hiking.

Adventure awaits in Kauai — here are a few other places to visit while there .

Pass-A-Grille, Florida

Less than 45 minutes southwest of Tampa you will find Pass-A-Grille , a quiet, unassuming small town in Florida.

Ever heard of a beach cruiser? Neither had we. It’s a mix between a bike and a go-cart and is a fun way to get around the beach. A simple and fast rental from Wheel Fun Rentals will get you off on your way.

If you like beachy knick-knacks, you’ll enjoy the quaint Main Street strip of shops. For an adventure, check out uber-secluded Shell Key, a small island you can shuttle or kayak to. It’s rugged and gorgeous there.

Vineyards in Temecula, California.

Patricia Elaine Thomas / Shutterstock

Temecula, California

Los Angeles , San Diego , and Malibu often steal the show in SoCal, but Temecula, just a little further south, is a hidden gem with all sorts of California charm.

Temecula Valley is affectionately known as Southern California’s Wine Country. Come for the wine, and then stay for the lovely other things to do . While there, it makes sense to join a wine tour or stop by a winery or two.

After some wine, we have two suggestions depending on the type of vacation you’re looking for. If you like to get moving and get active, horseback riding through hills and vineyards will be great for the body and mind. The experience will build memories with loved ones and gentle giants, and you’ll see wine country from a unique perspective.

Or, if you want some rest and relaxation, there are a few spas in Temecula worth a soak; consider South Coast Winery Resort and Spa and Murrieta Day Spa .

Oro Valley, Arizona

Oro Valley is just a few miles north of Tuscon , but it’s quite a bit quieter, more low-key, and charming than its southern neighbor.

While in Arizona, it’s only fitting to explore the rugged, dry climate. In Oro Valley in particular, you can definitely cross that off your bucket list. To see and experience the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, Tohono Chul is a beloved botanical garden with a fascinating collection of plants, flora, and fauna.

Another option for hikers is Honey Bee Canyon Park , an 80-acre adventure offering you natural delights and a look into the rich history of the Hohokam people who once dwelled in the area.

Beach views in Dominical, Costa Rica.

Dominical, Costa Rica

On November 1, 2020, visitors from all U.S. states can resume travel to Costa Rica. What better way to celebrate than by visiting Dominical ? With a population of less than 1,000, Dominical is a great representation of what a quiet beach town should be.

Though you might come for the beaches, there’s a lot more in store for your visit. Nauyaca Waterfalls is unique to Dominical as is Manuel Antonio National Park — home of monkeys, sloths, toucans, and other incredible wildlife.

San Pedro, Belize

Beach meets golf cart adventure? Sign us up. The best way to get around San Pedro is by golf cart, where you can explore at your own pace, taking in the cute, quaint streets and sandy shores slowly.

The popular beach on San Pedro — nicknamed Secret Beach — hosts warm water, squishy sand, calm waves, and an overall incredibly tranquil, fun, and enjoyable November getaway.

A beach on Vieques, Puerto Rico.

Vieques, Puerto Rico

Vieques is an island off of Puerto Rico’s eastern coast, about 60 miles from San Juan , Puerto Rico’s capital city.

Though San Juan has a vibrant city-meets-beach scene, we prefer Vieques in November because it’s a break from the hustle and bustle of a major city.

The main draw is Mosquito Bay, also called Bioluminescent Bay, where microorganisms brighten up the water in ethereal Avator -like green-blue shades. The sight is magical. Plus, you’re getting all of the beauty of the Caribbean without the crowds and tourist traps.

Vieques is a vision of peace and quiet, solitude and reflection, and a fabulous getaway to forget all about the approaching winter months. With crystal clear water and plenty of privacy to explore, there’s a lot to love about this island not too far from San Juan.

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

St. Thomas is a great destination if the Caribbean is calling your name. While there, make sure to experience Magens Bay Beach. This beloved stretch of sea and sand is small but mighty. When you reach the water, you will have crystal clear water ahead with green vegetation, palm trees, and hills behind and around you.

To enjoy the gorgeous water around the island, take advantage of an abundance of water activities; you can snorkel, scuba, sail, kayak, and canoe to your heart’s content. For a bird’s-eye view of the island, don’t miss the skyride up to Paradise Point. The gondola-like experience will take you up 700 feet in elevation. The skyride is currently closed due to Covid, but Mountain Top is a fantastic alternative if you’re looking for high-in-the-sky views. Enjoy a world-famous banana daiquiri while you’re up there!

For other fun excursions on the island, check out our list of the best things to do while on St. Thomas.

Hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin (including the Gulf, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Ocean) runs until the end of November. Check advisories before booking a trip, and it might be a good idea to purchase travel insurance in case of any necessary cancellations.

23 Cheap destinations in 2024 with great weather in November

Bargain hunters around the world know that November is arguably the best month for cheap travel to warm places, and 2023 looks to be another great year. Most of the popular tropical places have rainy seasons that end by early November, and yet their major tourist season doesn’t start until December. This means you can get amazing bargains at some of the most interesting destinations around the world.

Hotel prices in most of the places on this list are the same or even lower in 2024 than they were the year before, so at least inflation isn’t affecting everything. There are some incredible bargains on this list, especially towards the end in Asia. But there are great deals in South America as well in places with fantastic weather, so you’ll have many great places from which to choose.

This article was updated in July, 2024

The Caribbean

warm places to visit november

If you are mainly just looking to relax, you’ve found the perfect place, with warm weather and amazing off-season deals. The all-inclusive resorts tend to be much cheaper in the long run, although they do make it more difficult to experience the local culture and explore the whole island. If you don’t care about leaving the resort and you want the best all-inclusive value in the Caribbean, head straight to Punta Cana, which is mentioned just below.

Cancun is at the north end of the Riviera Maya, which also includes the island of  Cozumel , so this is a huge area with over a thousand hotels to choose from. All that competition keeps prices down until the high season begins, so November is still a buyer’s market. There are even ruins nearby and other cultural opportunities, so it’s not all about sitting on the beach here. If you prefer a high-rise hotel overlooking a beach then stay in Cancun itself, but if you prefer to stay in a friendly town with many restaurant and shopping choices then head to  Playa del Carmen , just a bit to the south, instead. It’s a large area with so many great choices that we wrote a guide to choosing where to stay in the Cancun area , which many people are finding helpful. Room rates are a bit lower in 2024 than the previous year so it could be a good choice if you book early.

The same resort that charges US$300 per night in January will usually go for US$200 per night in November, especially earlier in the month. And this goes for all-inclusive resorts as well, which start at US$207 per night for two people in the low season in November of 2024. If your main goal is relaxation in a perfect climate, Punta Cana is probably the best value in the entire Western hemisphere. And if you are wondering where to go in November for a beach all-inclusive then this is your best choice. While Punta Cana has dozens of all-inclusive resorts that cater to the mid-market crowd, it also has one entry on our list of the best luxury all-inclusive resorts in the entire Caribbean .

More good news comes with the fact that there are two other great resort areas that are each about 90 minutes by shuttle from Montego Bay Airport, so you can almost as easily reach  Ocho Rios  or  Negril , both of which have a different vibe that you might prefer. Bargain hunters will also find pretty amazing prices at the all-inclusive resorts, particularly those in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. If you prefer a quiet beach area lined with smaller hotels, restaurants, and bars, then head to Negril. Negril also has an entry on our list of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean for families with kids .

It’s worth noting that Jamaica is one of those Caribbean destinations where there is usually a huge difference in price between 3-star hotels, which are often small and family-run, and 4-star places, which are usually large, on the beach, and often run by a big company. You pretty much get what you pay for as well, so keep your expectations low if you book a cheap 3-star place. All-inclusive resorts tend to be more expensive in Jamaica than in the Dominican Republic or Mexico, so if you want to stay in one you might consider going to one of those instead.

  • November avg high: 90°F/32°C
  • November avg low: 68°F/20°C
  • November avg precip: 0.8″/2.0cm

warm places to visit november

One of the best things about Puerto Vallarta is that, unlike most of the Caribbean destinations, this is a real historic town rather than a purpose-built resort community. That means that there are small and authentic (and cheap) restaurants catering primarily to locals, so you get a much more authentic experience if you prefer one. The hotel zone close to the airport is modern and posh, but you are a short taxi ride away from the lovely center of town. Considering the low rainfall in November, this might be the best option for those in the eastern half of the US and Canada as well. It really is a lovely place that is totally different than Cancun and the villages in that area.

The hotel prices listed just below are low, and they are real, but you pretty much get what you pay for here. If you want to book a Marriott 4-star resort on the beach, you’ll be paying much closer to US$200 per night. Puerto Vallarta has plenty of small and really-nice boutique hotels so you can save money and still have a great stay if you choose carefully. There are some all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta so that is something to consider if you aren’t really too interested in trying out different local restaurants and all that.

Cartagena, Colombia

Hotel prices remain low through all of November for the most part, so you’ll have a good shot at deals at 3-star and above beach resorts that are trying to fill rooms during the slow season. Even if you are paying near the high season rates the hotels and everything else are bargains here compared to almost anywhere else. Cartagena is one of the cheapest places to travel in November on a beach, and you’ll get less rain as the month goes on. The nearby beaches are not fluffy white sand, in case that makes a difference. They are darker and such a fine grain that it’s a bit of a different feeling. There are some all-inclusive resorts in Cartagena and they are pretty good value as well. Most people prefer to stay in a hotel and then try different restaurants and bars along the beach or in the historic district or both, but if you might prefer to just stay on one beautiful property the whole time you won’t be judged here.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

warm places to visit november

Overall this is a perfect time of year to visit almost anywhere in Argentina. When December arrives things really start filling up and all the locals are on their own holidays, so November is the ideal mix of great weather that isn’t too steamy, and modest crowds and prices. With Argentina’s recent inflation and currency devaluation, it can be hard to know how expensive this trip will be, but for most people it will be cheaper than in recent years.

The situation in 2024 in Argentina is once again a bit confusing. If you bring crisp US dollars with you you’ll be able to exchange them at the “Blue Dollar” for about double the official exchange rate without much difficulty. That way everything is about 30% cheaper compared to the official prices, which are already pretty low. The Blue Rate had been double the official rate for many years so the savings were bigger if you brought in outside US Dollars, but there is a new president who is actually making reforms. Check the news before you book.

From November through February there are literally no European cities that could qualify as having “great weather.” We list Tenerife below because it’s technically in Europe, although not really much of a cultural destination.  Antalya, Turkey  (which technically isn’t even in Europe), has the closest thing to a sunny climate with acceptable temperatures. So during the winter Europe is all about cultural tourism, and lower hotel prices make it especially appealing for those who like to stretch their travel budgets and avoid crowds at the same time.

This is a very good month to visit because the weather continues to be perfect here, while the largest crowds from northern Europe haven’t quite started arriving yet. So finding an affordable hotel or apartment rental should be easy, and the restaurants and bars are always reasonably priced. If you want to be among other English speakers you’ll want to focus on the southwest area of the island around Los Cristianos and Playa de la America. There are quite a few all-inclusive hotels here and they are good value, but there are so many restaurants and bars everywhere that I prefer to stay in a normal hotel and then try different places each night.

  • November avg precip: 0.1″/0.3cm

Interestingly, December though February do get a bit cool in Cairo, so it’s not a great winter break, but in November it’s still pleasantly warm and bone-dry so you can enjoy the outdoors for long periods of time. If you don’t mind staying in a locally-owned hotel you can save a lot of money and see some old-world charm at the same time. Reservations in advance aren’t necessary, but it’s best to book your first couple of days just to avoid all the confusion once you arrive. It’s important to note that Cairo (and Egypt in general) are places where you’ll want to check recent news reports before you book, as there have been a few incidents over the years. The situation in 2024 looks promising, but things can change pretty quickly in places like this.

Keep up with the news, although this looks like it could be a great-value and interesting destination for the foreseeable future. There are all-inclusive resorts here and most of them DO include all-inclusive alcohol at amazing prices, but they tend to have small bars that don’t serve too quickly so this is not an ideal place for someone who really enjoys quite a few drinks each day.

Middle East

November is getting cool and even a bit rainy in most of the Middle East. An exception is Dubai and  Abu Dhabi , which both have perfect sunny weather. However, Abu Dhabi doesn’t make this list because it’s not really cheap enough for the cut.

Another reason to consider Dubai is that the busy airport has cheap non-stop flights coming in from almost every major airport in Europe and Asia. As a result it’s popular to book long weekend trips of 3 or 4 days to Dubai, where you can enjoy some sunshine and shopping before flying back home where it gets colder by the day. You might also consider stopping for a few days in Dubai and then moving onto somewhere else with cheap direct flights such as  the Maldives .

The traffic in Bali makes sightseeing notoriously challenging in June through August, but November is less crowded so it’s a good time to come and spend a day in Ubud or even take a tour of the towns along the northern shore. In fact, if you want to avoid the huge Kuta crowds altogether you should consider basing yourself in the Lovina area of the north shore. It’s as lovely and charming as the whole island was 20 years ago, but that may not last.

Bali has always been cheap, but it really was hit hard by zero tourists during the pandemic and it’s been slow to recover. Hotel prices in 2024 are absurdly cheap and you might think they are mistakes or scams if not for the fact that there are hundreds of places at those prices with good reviews. The hotel standards in Indonesia are a bit lower than in some other places, but generally the well-reviewed hotels are clean, comfortable, and the staff are fantastic.

Even though November is one of the busy months in Pokhara, they’ve built so many new hotels in the past few years that finding a room – even at a decent price – should always be possible. The high-season rates are still very cheap by almost anyone else’s standards, and food and drinks are always very affordable, but if you look around a bit you’ll be able to do even better. You’ll notice there’s a big difference in the prices between the 3-star and 4-star places in Pokhara. This is because the small family-run places are typically 3-star and any place with 4 stars is going to have a pool or other higher-end amenities.

Fortunately, Bangkok remains very cheap by almost anyone’s standards. If you want to splash down for a nice 3-star room then it’ll be way less than half the price of a similar room in Europe or the US, and if you are fine with something more basic then you can find a room for next to nothing, even in the fun Khaosan Road backpacker district. Street meals for around a dollar are always there too, so you’ll be able to afford a bit more for a room anyway.

The rainy season is over so it’s an ideal time to base yourself in Chiang Mai for some outdoor activities in the area. There are temples like crazy in the city center between the old walls, but even more interesting ones in the area just around Chiang Mai. There’s also great trekking and such, available quite affordably from any travel agency in the city. If you never been to Bangkok it’s definitely worth spending at least a few days there first, and the craziness will make Chiang Mai seem all the nicer once you arrive.

Still, this is a perfect time of year to find bargains, as the full-on busy season doesn’t begin until mid December. You might have to stay a few blocks off the main tourist strip if you are looking for something in a backpacker price range, but fortunately there are still plenty of very cheap restaurants and bars all over the city if you scan the menus carefully.

  • 4-star hotels from: US$115 per night for two people

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The high season hotel prices will start in December, and crowds are usually thin for most of the month so you should be able to get some nice bargains at some of the nicer places that allow online booking. When they see that they have lots of empty rooms as the month approaches, they’ll discount to be on par with some of the 2-star places that aren’t nearly as nice.

Comment* Hello Roger,

Your very good information is appreciated, Thanks.

A question ,please, that I have not seen addressed anywhere. Do You know of any way around, or an alternative to, the Mexican rental auto insurance mafia ? We never rent a vehicle there. Example- Checked out renting a compact at PV for ~ 5 weeks. Great rate, about $150 USD. Insurance 2286.60 USD! This was for Oct-Nov coming up, 2023. Taxis great, I know. And inter-city buses Luxliners . But sometimes your own wheels… Thanks, Michael

Unfortunately I don’t know much about this at all. That sounds really awful and I hope you find a satisfactory answer somewhere. I’m always nervous about renting cars in countries where the laws are sometimes applied unevenly so I haven’t even looked into this. Thanks for letting me know though. -Roger

Good Evening Saudi time Can you please Suggest a rainy country in November to travel to? Thanks

This is the first time someone has asked about a rainy country, but I’ve lived in the desert myself so I can imagine how that must be all year round. All of southeast Asia is still rainy through November and the easiest country to visit with by far the best tourist infrastructure is Thailand. You should probably start in Bangkok and then visit either Chiang Mai or one of the islands such as Phuket, or both. The rain often comes in the form of a heavy rainfall for about 20 minutes in the afternoon, but in November you can also get days where it rains moderately for much of the day. Let me know if you have any other questions. -Roger

Best places to travel in November

1.  oaxaca, mexico.

Oaxaca, Mexico

Oaxaca has got a whole lot more going for it than just its rainbow of Day of the Dead celebrations – although, these are rather spectacular. Head to the city on the first two days of this month and you’ll be jam-packed amongst Calavera (decorative skull) covered altars, cempasuchil flowers and street parties, while locals welcome their loved ones’ spirits back into the world. But the mostly-dry weather and balmy temperatures mean this is a solid time of year to explore the city’s UNESCO-protected streets, art galleries, and of course, sample its cuisine. This is the food capital of Mexico after all, and the dishes range from locally-crafted delicacies (such as Tlayuda, a pizza-like dish which often features spicy cactus) to expertly executed national dishes.

2.  Thailand

Thailand

Post-rainy season, November is a great time to head to Thailand’s jungles and beaches. You can hit all the usual spots, but consider some of Thailand’s lesser-known yet equally beautiful places like Pranburi. With secluded natural beaches and spread-out boutique accommodation options, the area’s still better known for fishing than tourism. There are mangrove forests to explore, and the spectacular Tham Phraya Nakhon cave is just along the coast—inside, the country’s smallest temple is bathed in sunlight from an opening in the rock above.

3.  Yukon, Canada

Yukon, Canada

Attention’s been on Canada’s sparsely populated, mountainous territory Yukon over the last year or so, thanks to the movie  Call of the Wild  (about a domesticated dog who’s stolen from California and sold to sleigh dog racers, starring Harrison Ford). November marks the start of the winter season in this freezing wilderness—explore on skis, take a snowmobile or go ice-fishing. The film is set in the 1890s, during the Gold Rush, so check out some Klondike Gold Rush history in Dawson City, too. And then wait for the skies to light up with Aurora Borealis at night.

4.  Hong Kong

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has always been a looker: with its instantly recognisable skyline of densely packed skyscrapers and lush, green peaks, and its uniquely East-meets-West feel. By November, the drenching heat eases off to a gentle autumn warmth. Tick off Victoria Peak, the Star Ferry and a cable car to the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, then head out to hip hood Sai Ying Pun, on the western side of Hong Kong Island. On its clattering streets, historic dried seafood stalls share space with many hot new cafés, bars and restaurants—including Balinese export Potato Head.

Average temp in November: 22C/72F

5.  Morocco

Morocco

While  Marrakech  got all the attention as Africa’s first Capital of Culture for 2020, history and culture also abound in other Moroccan cities. Take liberal Tangier, for example, with its 1950s beat poet history: Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg drank in The Tangerinn, while William S Burroughs wrote  Naked Lunch  in Hotel El Muniria. A short hop over the Med from Spain, Tangier’s art galleries offer a sense of this port city’s exciting collision of Europe and African culture, while its medina is smaller and more manageable than Marrakech.

6.  Oman

Oman

Where’s the world’s longest zip line? Most people’s first guess wouldn’t be Oman. But the Arabian sultanate has been seriously ramping up its efforts to bring in tourists to the country, with the promise of easy visas and that epic zipline – which is planned for the picturesque mountain village Misfat Al Abriyeen. That has been the plan for a couple of years now, so expect plenty of queues when it eventually opens. But despite its world’s longest zipline bid, Oman is everything nearby Dubai isn’t: generally favouring low-rise Middle Eastern charm and Bedouin traditions over being the biggest or showiest. So expect natural beauty and friendly locals. The almost constant sunshine doesn’t hurt, either.

Average temp in November: 26C/78F

7.  Dublin, Ireland

Dublin, Ireland

Nothing beats the warm, fuzzy feeling of stepping out of the winter cold and into a warm, cosy pub. And Dublin does an unbeatable line in warm, inviting boozers—from low-lit watering holes that have barely changed since Victorian times to drinking spots known for their live music and rabble-rousing atmosphere. Head to the 250-year-old Long Hall for obscure ales with extra character, The Cobblestone in Smithfield’s for quaintness in spades and live music, or settle in for a session at Toners. It has a short but sweet whisky list and strong literary ties—it’s rumoured to have been the only place WB Yeats would go for a drink.

Average temp in November: 8C/46F

8.  Tasmania

Tasmania

Having successfully flipped its image from snoozing backwater to a food and art hotspot with ample natural beauty, Australia’s rugged island state is on a tourism high. To beat the crowds, head over in November before summer truly kicks in. The Change Overnight Hotel, a boutique apartment-style hotel where guests are invited to choose one of eight causes that their stay will contribute to, has been a revelation. Base yourself here to explore the historic city of Launceston, meet the peacocks in the picturesque Cataract Gorge, and visit the Southern Wild Distillery in Devonport for gin made using locally foraged botanicals. Then head south for cultural hub Hobart.

Average temp in November: 15C/60F

9.  Egypt

Egypt

With visitor numbers steadily picking up, you might want to get in there and see the Pyramids quick. As yet the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo remains unopened (sometime in 2023 is the plan), meaning antiquities such as Tutankhamun’s gold mask and a behemoth, 83-tonne, fist-clenching statue of Ramses II are almost within reach. Still, history is tangible here, and it oozes out every nook and cranny. The Sphinx International Airport on the Giza side of the city should make it easier to drop in for an immersive ancient history lesson from the country’s beaches too.

Average temp in November: 23C/73F

10.  Türkiye

Türkiye

Türkiye has been staging a comeback of late, and we're more than happy about that. Socialite season is over and it’s not sunbathing weather anymore – but that means Bodrum's crowds will be gone. Explore the whitewashed Aegean city and its fourth-century BC Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, then check out the castle. Be sure to take in  Istanbul , too, especially for the emerging  Kadıköy district . Its Çiya Sofrası restaurant, serving forgotten Anatolian dishes, also appeared on  Chef’s Table.

Average temp in November: 17C/62F

10 reasons you need to visit Moscow this winter

warm places to visit november

Winter in Moscow is a Russian fairy-tale come true: Beautiful parks, squares and churches covered in sugar powder snow and lights shimmering on your way. Don’t overestimate the temperature’s influence on your travel experience – if you remember to pack a warm coat, cozy underwear and waterproof shoes, you are ready to go.

Here come our top 10 spots to visit in this super romantic season in Moscow – winter atmosphere guaranteed.

1. Sparrow Hills

One of the best city views opens from Sparrow Hills, protruding over Moscow and featuring the prominent main building of Moscow State University.

The University is one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, a line of first Soviet skyscrapers to peak the Moscow skyline. Sparrow Hills makes an excellent viewpoint of a snowy Moscow, but also serves as a beloved park and favorite hangout of the student population. During winter Sparrow Hills’ ski-trails are open all day long.

Where: Sparrow Hills Nearest station: Vorobievy Gory

2. Red Square

No matter how cold it is, a visit to Moscow is not complete without a visit to the Red Square . The most beautiful and yet forbidding square in Moscow is a huge pedestrian space paved in stone right next to the Kremlin. The term ‘red’ doesn’t refer to the color, as you perhaps would first guess – it refers to its beauty. ‘Red’ used to mean ‘beautiful’.

Over its long and troublesome history this place has been a market square and a place for coronations and decapitations. It has hosted a wide range of events – from military parades to rock concerts. A rink goes up every winter on the square where people can show off their skating skills.

Where: Red Square Nearest station: Okhotny Ryad

3. Saint Basil’s Cathedral

Saint Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square looks like an enormous wedding cake. No wonder Le Corbusier called it ‘delirium of a drunken confectioner’. It was built in the middle of the 16th century, and legend tells that Ivan the Terrible ordered its two architects blinded – to make sure they could never duplicate the masterpiece.

This fairy-tale Cathedral consists of nine side churches arranged around the tenth church of Intercession. Take refuge from the chilly weather outside with a visit inside the cathedral and wander around its surprisingly narrow galleries and see its murals, icons and frescoes. In the Soviet era the Cathedral miraculously avoided being demolished, and therefore it is much appreciated by its many visitors today.

Where: Red Square Tel: +7 495 698 33 04 Nearest station: Okhotny Ryad

4. Krasny Oktyabr

Krasny Oktyabr means ‘Red October’ and it used to be a big Soviet chocolate factory famous for its chocolate bar ‘Alyonka’. Now it is the hottest hub in Moscow and a place that will keep you warm even on the coldest days with its thousands of hip and trendy youngsters working, eating and having a good time. In the near future it is intended that the twenty-three red brick buildings of the factory will be transformed into extremely expensive housing with views of the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, all the best design firms, galleries, bars, boxing clubs, yoga studios and nightclubs have plenty on offer for adventurers and creative souls.

Where: Bersenevskaya naberezhnaya, 6 Nearest station: Kropotkinskaya

5. Novodevichy Convent

This convent is so beautiful it leaves you speechless. Founded in 1524 it has remained intact and was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. For many centuries the red brick and white stone Convent with lacelike towers and golden domes was home – or more specifically, prison – to many ladies from the Russian royal families. The moment they fell from favor, became tedious or disobedient, they were sent to live there. Nevertheless the convent doesn’t look scary, but very cheerful, especially in winter. When surrounded by snow, it resembles a fairy-tale castle of a beautiful princess.

Bring a sled or some cardboard to sled down the hills surrounding the Convent.

Where: Novodevichy proezd, 1 Tel: +7 499 246 85 26 Nearest station: Sportivnaya

6. Cathedral of Christ the Saviour

This glossy white Cathedral of Christ the Saviour with its giant golden dome does have resemblances with an ice castle – especially during winter when it’s wrapped up in snow. Things have never been easy around the Cathedral. It took forty-four years to build it with the purpose of thanking Divine Providence for saving Russia from Napoleon. In 1931 it was demolished to free space for the Palace of the Soviets – that was never built. The Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, decided to open the world’s largest open-air swimming pool instead, using the flooded foundation cavity.

But consistency isn’t a strong Russian trait. In 1990 it was decided to rebuild the Cathedral using modern technology. This time it only took three years, and today you can observe the result.

Where: Volkhonka, 15 Tel: +7 495 637 12 76 Nearest station: Kropotkinskaya

7. Gorky Park

Some years ago this large Soviet park had become a mess of kiosks with bad kufta, roller coasters with dubious safety standards and with thousands of people trying to have fun. Thanks to recent changes in the Moscow government the park has changed for the better. The kiosks and roller coasters have been taken down, the Soviet architecture has been cleaned and nice cafés and restaurants have been opened. The park also hosts dance lessons, Ping-Pong, chess, running clubs and the largest European winter ice-rink during the winter.

Where: Krymsky Val, 9 Tel: +7 495 995 00 20 Nearest station: Park Kultury

8. Garage Museum

If the ice-skating in Gorky Park can’t keep you warm then head inside the Garage Museum . This museum is located inside the park in the former restaurant Seasons, which was posh and famous in the 1960s. Rem Koolhaas made an ambitious architectural project: to maintain the look of a 1960s building, but still become the most technologically advanced museum in the city.

The wall panels move freely and a large separate space is made especially for the installations and performances. Add to this five new exhibition halls, a media space and an entire educational center, and you have yourself a cultural adventure not to miss.

Where: Krymskiy val, 9, bld. 32 Tel: +7 495 645 05 20 Nearest station: Park Kultury

9. Hermitage Garden

If you only manage to see one thing in central Moscow, this should definitely be it. Though the park is small, it is home to quite a few great sights and it is cozy – especially during the snowy season. You will find a few cafés, three theaters, a stage for concerts and a great playground for children. The best food, music and children’s festivals are held here regularly – and during the winter locals have a lot of fun using the skating rink. But somehow, no matter how many children and music lovers flock to this place, it still never feels crowded, and the atmosphere is intimate.

Where: Karetny Ryad, 3 Tel: +7 495 699 04 32 Nearest station: Pushkinskaya

10. Sanduny Banya

There’s no better way to finish a day of sightseeing in a wintery Moscow than to go to a banya. A Russian banya is a hot steam that serves several purposes. People go to the banya to cure colds, remove toxins from the body, strengthen the immune system and gossip or talk business. The setting is grandiose and palatial with mosaics, marble columns and the Poseidon statue.

Locals come to Sanduny , the largest and most popular banya in Moscow, for a relaxing detox. They also go to do some nude celebrity spotting. Many Russian actors, singers and politicians come to this 200-year old institution regularly. Don’t leave without a bath besom session and a shot of vodka at the adjacent restaurant. This is a mandatory part of the banya program, if you want to go local.

Where: Neglinnaya, 14, bld. 3-7 Tel: +7 495 625 46 31 Nearest station: Kuznetsky Most
