Things to do | groundbreaking 2cellos duo says farewell with final tour.

As 2Cellos they’ve done all that — and more. But now their unlikely success story is coming to an end.

The duo’s current concert tour — joined, as usual, by drummer Dusan Kranjc — belatedly in support of 2021’s 10th anniversary album “Dedicated,” will also be its last. “We both have totally different lifestyles,” Hauser, 35, says by Zoom from Croatia. “Luka is more of a family man now — three children, a wife. For him it’s basically game over, you know” he adds with a laugh.

“And me, I am a little bit crazy, full of ideas, ambitions. I just want to keep going, keep conquering the world, playing everywhere, constantly moving around. So we have different approaches to life, and that’s why we thought it was best if we each go our own separate ways.”

But, Hauser assures us, the parting is amicable. “We’re bigger friends than ever now, actually. We understand each other now, completely.”

By the time 2Cellos takes its final bows some time later this year, Hauser and Sulic, 34, will certainly leave a formidable legacy.

They met as teenagers, both studying at the Academy of Music is Zagreb and later at different schools in England. Though cello wasn’t a favored instrument even in the classical world, they both liked it and felt a drive to not only play well but to bring cello the respect they felt it deserved. “Everyone would pick up violin or piano, guitar — everything was cooler than cello,” Hauser recalls. They also chafed under the “restrictions” of classical music; Hauser says he was frequently reprimanded for his showmanship and aggressive playing style that did not conform to traditional norms.

“We were young, full of energy and adrenalin and we felt a little bit limited by one type of music,” Hauser explains. “We wanted to make it feel young, and we wanted to feel like rock stars, ’cause we were young and rebellious and we wanted to feel this freed and do whatever we wanted to do.”

They started in 2011 with a version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” which became a YouTube hit and netted the pair a recording contract with Sony Masterworks. 2Cellos’ self-titled debut album featured interpretations of songs by U2, Sting, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana and more and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Classical Albums chart. The 2012 follow-up “In2ition” featured more pop covers and guest appearances by Elton John, rock guitarist Steve Vai and classical pianist Lang Lang. John also recruited 2Cellos to be part of his touring band during 2011-2013, appearing with him on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show and as part of his “The Red Piano” residency in Las Vegas.

“It’s crazy that we started as classical cellists, but it brought us to so many different directions, and the people we were able to collaborate with and meet and hang out with — it’s crazy,” Hauser says. “You never imagine you’re gonna end up in those circles as a cello player — touring with Elton John for three years, playing with Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, playing with George Michael, playing with Andrea Bocelli.

“All these different genres that have nothing to do with each other, and we experienced it all — that is the crazy part. Movie material, I would say.”

All told 2Cellos released six studio albums (an expanded edition of “Dedicated” came out earlier this year) and a live video while building an audience of 5.5 million YouTube subscribers. It’s also won three Porin awards (Croatia’s Grammys) and received a prestigious Order of Danica Hrvatska honor in their homeland. Hauser and Sulic have recorded commercials for the National Football League and Docomo mobile phones, and they performed the anthem for the 2018 UEFA Champion League soccer final in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Both have also worked independently during the past 12 years as well, and as they part ways Hauser in particular is ready to attack his solo career. He recently released a version of the theme from “Pirates of the Caribbean, accompanied by a video shot on a barge, joined by Hungarian dancers. He has a concept for his own live show as well as a solo recording, both of which he expects to release during 2023.

As he says, emphatically: “It’s Hauser time!” But he’ll also regard his time with 2Cellos fondly.

“I think we totally revolutionized the cello as an instrument,” he said. “We made the cello an arena-level act, selling out those places, which never really happened with that instrument. We explored so many genres…and we just showed to the world a cello is capable of absolutely everything, and we made kids go crazy for the cello. So we’re really happy with what we accomplished. It’s been insane.”

Stjepan Hauser of the cello duo has damaged his neck, according to a statement

2Cellos – Croatian cello duo Luka Š ulić and Stjepan Hauser – have announced the cancellation of the remainder of their US tour due to an injury to Hauser’s neck.

‘The duo apologise to their fans and look forward to the US after Stjepan has recovered. Refunds are available at the point of purchase,’ reads a statement on their website.

2Cellos were due to perform in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Redbank, Toronto  and Hershey over the course of the coming week.

The London-trained ensemble are known for crossing the non-classical divide with their energetic covers of pop and rock songs.

2Cellos - The Final Farewell

(Croatia – 2022) World-famous cellists HAUSER and Luka Šulić return to the global stage after almost three years, for their last and final tour as the revolutionary 2Cellos . What began as a rebellious experiment ten years ago, ultimately captured the hearts and minds of millions all over the world. Featuring interpretations of some of the world’s most iconic rock and pop songs, they belied conventions of the classical, rock and pop worlds and literally conquered the globe with their one-of-a-kind performances. Now, having completed everything they ever set out to do together, they have come to the end of the road.

But first, in celebration of their success and in honor of their deep, abiding friendship, their last and final world tour will allow fans everywhere to experience the unique, groundbreaking sound of these occasionally dueling cellos but always, musically synchronized cello masters.

The final 2Cellos world tour will be their fans’ last chance to see them together. Performing some of their most iconic versions of songs – from classical to pop, and rock music, there is no question that there will be some tears in the aisles. Never wishing to disappoint their loyal fan base, however, and in recognition of their time together, they have also released their last and final album together,  “ Dedicated .” And that is precisely what this wild musical ride has been – one of phenomenal dedication and artistic growth.

The 2Cellos decade has been punctuated by appearances with many of the hottest rock and pop acts to ever grace the music world, from Elton John, who was the key player in discovering their innate talent, to George Michael, Steven Tyler and Andrea Bocelli. Through sold out concerts in the world’s most prestigious and celebrated venues – like the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House – they currently possess more than 1.5 billion views on their YouTube channel . As a result, the 2Cellos have achieved their wildest dreams as a duo and now, it’s time to say, “farewell.”

But fans need not worry. HAUSER himself has no intention of slowing down. He’s heading for the spotlight with some exciting and innovative plans of his own.  And, if the past carries any hint of what we can expect, it’s going to be a long and glorious ride.

Great show! There was a wonderful build of energy and incredible virtuosity. Their personalities keep the show fun and engaging. I was expecting them to have more of a band with them but in the end I didn't miss it. They do a masterful job of looping their cellos without you even noticing and the overall effect gives such a full sounds that you are certain there must be a multitude of other musicians behind the scenes. The lighting and video work took advantage of the large stage which otherwise could have felt a little bare with just two instruments. The addition of the drummer helped elevate the energy in the middle section of the show. My only slight complaint is that the show feels a little "macho" at times (for lack of a better word.) Perhaps a kickass feel male drummer would have helped that but regardless, it is a minor point. Lastly, the opener, Jon McLaughlin, was an awesome surprise. He is really talent and charming and kicked the show off perfectly.

The audience makes or breaks a show. In this case, the audience was older and not super into standing up, dancing around or clapping along when prompted. Despite low participation, they put on really high quality and moving show. Luka, the one in the right in the picture seemed to have less energy than usual but the other guy made up for it with his flirty banter. Overall, a good time but not the best show I've been to.

2Cellos to End? Stjepan Hauser Announces Break

The popular Croatian duo 2Cellos seems to be at a major turning point, as far as their professional musical careers are concerned. This has been confirmed by Stjepan Hauser for RTL on October 29, 2018.

T he cello player has announced that he and Luka Šulić will take a break during which they will, as he pointed out, rest a bit from the crazy regime which they have followed in recent years. “We had more than 200 flights a year. The life we were living over the past eight years is simply out of this world, we really did overdo it. We have to move away from everything, we want to devote ourselves to other things in life, make a healthy break, sort everything out in our heads. When that happens, if it happens, we can then continue,” Hauser said.

The guys will still embark on an American and Australian tour that is scheduled to end in April next year. After that, Stjepan Hauser will focus on a solo career, while Luka will devote his time to his wife Tamara and son Val.

“We have been playing as 2Cellos for the last eight years and it is crazy to try to leave this life. But, I am fortunately ready to take risk and get out of my comfort zone. I am proud of myself as far as that is concerned,” Hauser concluded.

In addition to all the successes they had, they recently managed to record a new album and write two new songs. One of them is devoted to the most powerful and the fastest electric car in the world, Mate Rimac’s Concept Two. “We are so proud with the way it sounds. It is called c2, and we are 2c, so it makes perfect sense,” said Hauser, talking about what might be one of 2Cellos’s final projects together.

Cross-over duo 2cellos to cancel us tour due to injury.

It has been announced today that Croatian pop-rock cross-over duo 2Cellos will be forced to cancel the remainder of their 2015 US tour - due to a neck injury sustained by Stjepan Hauser .

“Personally, we are terribly sad and disappointed as playing live for all of you is our biggest passion … we very much look forward to coming back to the US after Stjepan's recovery,” fellow band member,  Luka Šulić has said via social media.

The tour was to include scheduled performances in Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Atlanta, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

'Refunds are available at the point of purchase' a spokesperson has said.

(DETROIT – July 19, 2021) – Today, 2CELLOS announce dates for their 2022 U.S. tour in celebration of their 10th anniversary as a duo. Known for their captivating live performances, 2CELLOS are set to play at Little Caesars Arena on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.

The news arrives on the heels of their latest single releases, “ Demons ,” a haunting version of the Imagine Dragons’ hit song, and “ Livin’ on a Prayer ,” a vibrant rendition of the Bon Jovi rock classic.  Fans can expect to experience new music on tour along with 2CELLOS’ staples i.e., “ Thunderstruck ” (AC/DC), “ Smooth Criminal ” (Michael Jackson), and their  Game of Throne s  medley. Celebrating the group’s momentous 10-year-anniversary, Dedicated has now been reissued with three new covers that find the duo of Luka Šulić and HAUSER once again showcasing their signature boundary-breaking playing style. Music | Acclaimed duo’s farewell tour set to open Concord Pavilion season

The acclaimed classical-crossover duo, consisting of amazing cellists Luka Šulić and Hauser, has embarked on what’s being billed as 2Cello’s final tour together.

The farewell tour includes a Bay Area stop — April 16 — which also doubles as the opening show of Concord Pavilion’s 2022 concert season.

Show time is 8 p.m. and tickets start at $27, livenation.com .

The two cellists, who are known for covering songs by such acts as U2, Leonard Cohen, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Muse and Michael Jackson, are touring in support of the sixth full-length studio album, “Dedicated.”

They have recently released an extended edition of “Dedicated” that features three brand new bonus tracks — covers of Ed Sheeran’s “Castle on the Hill,” the Beatles’ “Yesterday” and Linkin Park’s “Castle of Glass.”

There’s also a memorable music video for “Castle on the Hill,” which find the duo performing amid some beautiful scenery near Trieste, Italy. Fans can see that video, and many other intriguing ones from 2Cellos, on the duo’s YouTube page .

Famous Croatian musicians 2Cellos will end what they have called their final live tour with a concert in Auckland, New Zealand.  

Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, who reunited after a break earlier this year on the 10th anniversary since the forming 2Cellos, will end The Dedicated Tour, which will be their last, at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Sunday December 4, 2022.

“It will be a joyous way to end the last 2Cellos tour amongst our friends in New Zealand,” the band said.

The duo will make their long-awaited return to the stage in support of their new album Dedicated, kicking off their 2022 Dedicated Tour in the U.S. on March 26 at Rosemont’s Allstate Arena before stopping at iconic venues on the U.S. leg including New York’s Barclays Center and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

The European leg of their final live tour starts on 11 May, 2022 in Budapest, Hungary.

They will then play at venues across Europe, including in Austria, Poland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, London and other places.  

2Cellos sixth full-length album Dedicated was released in September.

“We always planned to come back, and we came into Dedicated with a fresh approach and energy. We haven’t been on stage for two years now, so we can’t wait to get back out,” the duo said.

Dynamic instrumental duo 2CELLOS are set to embark on their final live world tour, with two London dates at OVO Arena Wembley.

Croatian cellist duo Luka Šulić and HAUSER , also known as 2CELLOS , have achieved extraordinary success with their spirited instrumental arrangements of classical and film music, and pop and rock melodies.

And now, the duo is embarking on their final world tour. Having spent the last ten years together as 2CELLOS, Šulić and Hauser have announced two dates at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, marking their last ever show in the UK.

The shows will take place over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend on Thursday 2 June (only last remaining tickets available for this show), and Friday 3 June 2022.

“This tour is the culmination of everything we have achieved as the 2CELLOS,” the duo has said. “These will be our biggest shows, playing to some of the biggest audiences.
