More than 20 years after The Darkness exploded with their debut album that changed the face of rock music, their cheeky, spandex-clad anthems continue to capture hearts and a new generation of enthusiasts. None more so than Taylor Swift who sparked an internet meltdown via the  viral video  of her and boyfriend Travis Kelce singing along with The Darkness’ eternal mega-hit “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” at the US Open Tennis Championships finals. As a result, Taylor’s legions of fans sent the track hurtling up charts across the world, including reaching No. 1 on the US iTunes Rock Chart, 21 years after the song’s release.

One of Canada’s best-selling bands, Juno Award-winning rockers  Finger  Eleven  have built a long-lasting legacy with their genre-defying sound (spanning cathartic metal and alt-rock balladry to danceable funk, power pop, and beyond) that continues to keep fans on their toes. The band’s story begins in 1990, when  Scott Anderson  (vocals),  Rick Jackett  (guitar),  James Black  (vocals, guitar),  Sean Anderson  (bass), and drummer  Rob Gommerman  (later replaced by  Rich Beddoe ) began playing together in high school. In 1995, the Burlington, Ontario five-piece released their debut,  Letters from Chutney , under the moniker “Rainbow Butt Monkeys,” before recording their first LP as  Finger  Eleven,  Tip.   The album, which was produced by  Arnold Lanni  (Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan), caught the attention of  Wind-up Records , who signed the band in 1997 and re-released  Tip  a year later.

Non-stop touring with bands like Creed and Fuel, as well as a spot on the Vans Warped Tour helped the band break into the US market with singles like  “Above,”  a Top 40 hit on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. The band continued the momentum with  The Greyest of Blue Skies   (2000). Featuring the singles  “First Time”  and  “Drag You Down , ”  the album landed at No.17 on the Canadian chart, where it was certified Gold. It would be their self-titled follow-up, however, that would make  Finger  Eleven international stars.

Produced by  Johnny K.  (Disturbed, Plain White T’s, Megadeth), 2003’s  Finger  Eleven marked a new era for the band. Praised by  AllMusic   as their  “most confident and sincere statement to date,”  the album found the band exploring a variety of new styles, including dance-rock ( “Good Times” )   and introspective, acoustic-driven balladry ( “One Thing” ). In addition to breaking into the Billboard 200,  Finger  Eleven  peaked at No.4 in Canada and topped Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. The Juno-nominated “One Thing,” meanwhile, was a Top 20 hit in the US and landed in Canada’s Top 30. As a testament to the song’s broad appeal, it also peaked at No.2 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40, No. 11 on Mainstream Top 40, and No.5 on Alternative Airplay.

Finger  Eleven returned to the studio with Jonny K. for their fourth album,  Them vs. You vs. Me .  Released in 2007, it would become their most successful release to date, earning the band a  Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year  and peaking at No.2 in Canada. The funk-forward single “ Paralyzer ” also earned the band a Juno nod and multi-platinum sales on both sides of the border, hitting No.3 in Canada and peaking at No.6 after spending 52 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, a unique feat for a rock band. The single would go on to enjoy massive airplay setting a record for most consecutive weeks at No.1 by a Canadian band on the Canadian Rock charts. Other favorites from the album included the chart-topping power-pop track,  “Falling On,”  and the break-up anthem,  “I’ll Keep Your Memory Vague.”  The band snagged another Juno nomination with 2010’s  Life Turns Electric ,  which featured the dance-rock hit,  “Living in a Dream.”  The song, which topped the Canadian Rock chart, also landed at No.13 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Airplay and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts, thanks in part to its use as the official theme song for 2011’s  WWE Royal Rumble .  Another fan favorite track is  “Slow Chemical”  – a 2002 cover and remix of wrestler Kane’s entrance theme. The song was played during Kane’s appearances on  WrestleMania,  as well as in the video game  WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008  and the 2004 Marvel film,  The Punisher.

Finger  Eleven, which currently includes original members Scott Anderson, Sean Anderson, James Black, and Rick Jackett, plus drummer  Steve Molella  (who joined the band in 2013), released their critically-acclaimed seventh studio album,  Five Crooked Lines ,  in 2015. Since then, they have remained active on the road and enjoyed their legacy as one of Canada’s biggest bands.

What a time to be alive.

Just three months after announcing the band was reuniting for the “ Summer Of ’99 ” cruise, Creed has officially announced they’re hittin’ the road again in 2024 for the first time in 12 years.

When Creed first broke the news that they were reuniting, the excitement faded fast as fans everywhere were expecting and hoping for a full-blown tour. After high demand, and a recent boost in popularity thanks to social media and sports teams, the band listened and gave the people what they wanted.

Multi-platinum-selling band Finger Eleven has announced details of its Greatest Hits North American tour, which will being in August.

Following a standalone date in Beaumont, AB, yesterday (June 17), the group will hit the road in Barrie, ON, on August 4, continuing across Canada and the US for much of August and September. After a break in October, it will then reignite the tour for a handful of dates in November, wrapping up in North Battleford, SK, on November 28.

“I’m excited to share that F11 is finally getting back on the road,” frontman Scott Anderson said in a press release. “This time, we’re hitting both Canada and the US, including places we haven’t been in years. We can’t wait to start making noise again. See you out there!”

Tickets are on sale now. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit Finger Eleven’s official website . More tour dates are expected to be announced this summer.

The tour news coincides with the release of the band’s first-ever retrospective collection, Greatest Hits . Available now on CD and digital formats, the 12-track compilation includes the new single “Together Right,” plus the multi-platinum hit “Paralyzer” and the Juno-nominated “One Thing,” alongside chart-toppers like “Falling On” and “Living In A Dream.” The new album also treats fans to a previously unreleased cover of Pink Floyd ’s “Welcome To The Machine,” which has long been a staple of the band’s live set.

A limited edition Blue Smoke pressing of Greatest Hits will be available exclusively via Finger Eleven’s official website and Craft Recordings , while indie record stores will carry an exclusive Yellow Marble variant. Meanwhile, fans can pick up a collectible version of the CD featuring unique packaging at Walmart , along with a Walmart-exclusive Purple Smoke LP. The vinyl edition will be released on August 25.

Last month, Finger Eleven shared the official music video for “Together Right,” which opened in a factory, as uniformly-dressed workers move like cogs in a machine. But it soon becomes clear that not everyone is happy in their monotonous existence.

“The video takes place in a world where everything is the same,” explained lead guitarist James Black. “Efficiency and conformity are mistaken for unity. But real connection, between two people, is WAY more powerful than people idly following a routine.”

Creed Announces Summer of ’99 Tour with 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Finger Eleven, and More

Clayton Edwards

Updated:

Earlier this year, Creed announced that they would reunite for the first time in more than a decade for their Summer of ’99 and Beyond Cruise. The cruise will be a time capsule of late-‘90s rock and roll. Today, they’ve announced a tour with the same vibe.

Videos by American Songwriter

Creed’s Summer of ’99 Tour kicks off next summer. The Diamond-selling band will tap some of the biggest names in ‘90s rock to provide support on the tour. Finger Eleven will open every night on the 40-city trek. Additionally, 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Tonic, and Big Wreck will appear on select dates.

In the tour announcement video below, the band dramatizes how this tour probably came about. The band is rehearsing together when everyone’s phone starts blowing up. Viewers see countless social media notifications begging for a North American tour. Then, Scott Stapp calls Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down, tells him about the upcoming tour, and invites him and the band to come along.

[RELATED: Creed to Perform Live for the First Time in Over a Decade for the Summer Of ’99 Cruise]

Creed originally announced their reunion with the Summer of ’99 and Beyond Cruise. It sold out quickly. As a result, they extended the cruise. Months later, they announced a tour. So, it would be easy to assume that the band is working to give their ever-passionate fanbase what they want.

The tour will also include a one-day-only festival. Creed will host the Summer of ’99 and Beyond Festival at San Bernardino, California’s Glen Helen Amphitheater on August 31. 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Finger Eleven, Fuel, Vertical Horizon, and The Verve Pipe will also play at the festival.

The tour kicks off on July 17 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Then, it comes to an end in Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena on September 16. Tickets can be purchased through StubHub.

About CREED:

The GRAMMY® and American Music Award-winning CREED formed in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1994. The more than one billion streams between “Higher,” “My Sacrifice,” “One Last Breath,” “With Arms Wide Open,” and “My Own Prison” on Spotify alone is a testament to the band’s enduring power. Nearly 30 years after CREED’s formation, the ubiquitous anthems composed by singer Scott Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti, performed for millions of fans around the world together with drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall, are part of modern rock and alternative’s DNA. My Own Prison (1997) is one of the late 20th century’s biggest debuts. Human Clay (1999) and Weathered (2001) both entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. Full Circle (2009), released after a hiatus, bowed at No. 1 on the Top Rock, Hard Rock, and Alternative charts and No. 2 on the Billboard 200. With more than 53 million albums sold worldwide, CREED stands alongside iconic bands like Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica as one of an elite few hard rock outfits to earn RIAA Diamond-certified status, for more than 11 million sales of Human Clay in the United States. After an eleven-year hiatus, Creed officially reunited in July 2023 and announced that they would be headlining two different Summer of ’99 cruise festivals in April 2024 which resulted in immediate sell-outs.
