Inside Ascent: 3 takeaways from Celebrity Cruises' new ship

Portrait of Nathan Diller

As I walked to dinner on Celebrity Cruises’ new ship, Ascent, I found myself at what I thought was a dead-end. The vessel’s expansive fifth deck shrunk to a narrow hallway with infinity mirrors and polished steel sculptures that seemed to indicate I’d taken a wrong turn.

But I soon realized the installation from art and design studio Fredrikson Stallard, named Aurora, also served a practical function. I walked through the mesmerizing space, which features 1,600 lights in a “digital interpretation” of the aurora borealis according to a placard at the entrance and exited closer to the restaurant.

The way Ascent immerses guests in its artwork was among several features that stood out during a two-night sailing earlier this month. And while the ship has a lot in common with previous Edge Series vessels, there are some new twists. Here are three takeaways.

1. The ship is artfully designed

Many other spaces on Ascent incorporate sculptures and paintings, and often feel like works of art themselves thanks to striking design features.

On Deck 14, for example, tall narrow archways lead guests to the ship’s Magic Carpet, a cantilevered platform on the side of Celebrity’s Edge Series ships that offers sweeping views (the platform can also move up and down the vessel).

Around the corner,  a giant metallic octopus (given the pet name Ocho by the crew) stands watch over the pool. And a tiered LED chandelier hanging above the Martini Bar is the star of the ship’s three-deck Grand Plaza.

The attention to detail extends to the accommodations, perhaps no more evident than in the two-bedroom, two-bathroom Iconic Suite, which has floor-to-ceiling windows, a nearly 700-square-foot terrace with a hot tub and a butler’s pantry. The room is in The Retreat, Celebrity’s all-suite category that gives guests access to a private restaurant, lounge and sun deck, among other perks.

Prices for the suite vary by itinerary, travel dates, and other factors, but the suite currently starts at an average of $21,425 per person for a seven-night cruise to the Bahamas, Mexico, and Grand Cayman, departing in March 2024 from Fort Lauderdale.

But no matter where you are on the ship, Ascent puts a premium on relaxation: There is ample seating all over the vessel, from poolside loungers to plush chairs by the window at Café al Bacio.

2. The food is elevated

Ascent’s 32 restaurants, bars and lounges showcase Celebrity’s focus on its culinary program, both at included venues like Oceanview Café – which feels like part buffet, part food hall, with soaring ceilings and a variety of international cuisine – and its specialty restaurants.

Eden Restaurant, located in a three-level space that also hosts shows, offers a mix of dishes like Aegean Sea ceviche; Nova Scotia lobster casserole; and oven-roasted chicken (I ordered the chicken at dinner, which came with duck fat potatoes, mushrooms, daikon leaves, fennel salad, pickled mustard and chicken apricot roasting jus).

The line’s more intimate Le Voyage restaurant from chef and Celebrity’s Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud was redesigned for the ship with a cream and gold color scheme, hand-embroidered leather wall art and a marble entrance. The venue can accommodate around 60 people – including its six-guest private room – and features dishes inspired by travel like tamarind and peanut-crusted prawns and Brazilian moqueca.

Both restaurants also feature tasting menus, including a plant-based menu at Eden.

3. There is a private game room

Ascent features The Annex, a new space where guests can play sports like golf on a virtual simulator, watch movies and sing karaoke (there were even earplugs on the tables when I went, just in case).

Guests can choose from various packages ranging from $150 to $375 for up to 10 people, depending on their selection and when they use the space. They can also add up to five additional guests for $35 each.

On the nearly 3,300-passenger ship, The Annex serves as a private playroom.

'Come and go as you please': Here's how overnight cruise stops work

Every package includes soda, water and food from the onboard pub Craft Social, and some include alcohol (guests’ beverage packages also apply).

Overall, Ascent provides passengers a modern, elegant home base for their travels. And don’t be afraid to get lost onboard – you might just stumble upon something beautiful.

Celebrity Reflection Debuts New Look After Drydock at Chantier Naval de Marseille

  • October 29, 2022

latest celebrity cruise ship news

The Celebrity Reflection became the latest ship to showcase Celebrity Cruises’ new look following a drydock in France.

After spending over ten days at the Chantier Naval de Marseille, the 2012-vessel is now sporting a blue-colored hull that was first introduced by the Celebrity Edge in 2018 .

Part of the company’s new livery, the look is now present on ten of the 12 Celebrity Cruises large cruise ships.

During its recent shipyard visit, the Reflection also underwent maintenance and technical upkeep, in addition to regulatory and class work.

Set to cross the Atlantic for a winter season in the Caribbean, the Solstice-Class ship recently completed its tenth year in service .

First introduced in 2012, the 126,000-ton vessel is slightly larger than its four sister ships and features an extra deck with additional public areas and cabins.

Among its facilities is a glass-enclosed pool deck, a selection of ten dining venues – including five specialty restaurants – and a three-deck main theater.

The Reflection also features Celebrity’s unique Lawn Club, an outside deck with a half-acre real grass lawn, as well as the exclusive Reflection Suite.

The two-bedroom accommodation offers a total of 150 square meter of space, in addition to a distinctive, all-glass shower extending out over the edge of the 3,030-passenger ship.

With its new blue hull, the Reflection is set to offer week-long cruises to the Caribbean during Celebrity’s 2022-2023 winter season .

Departing from Fort Lauderdale on every Sunday, the vessel will sail an alternating schedule of Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages.

Itineraries include visits to popular destinations in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, The Bahamas and more.

For the 2023 summer, the Reflection is slated to return to Europe for a series of seven- to ten-night cruises to the Mediterranean.

What to Know About All 16 Ships in the Celebrity Cruises Fleet

Here’s what you need to know about every Celebrity Cruises ship.

latest celebrity cruise ship news

Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises is among our readers' favorite mega-ship ocean lines — coming in at No. 1 in 2022 and No. 2 in 2023 as part of our World's Best Awards (WBA) — and it's easy to see why. This WBA Hall of Fame honoree truly shines with its sophisticated, tasteful decor and sleek onboard spaces, including swanky lounges, dazzling bars, gourmet specialty restaurants, and contemporary suites. Almost all Celebrity ships, except the three Xpedition-class vessels, offer standard amenities like casinos, retail shops, spas, and Broadway-level shows and entertainment. There's also the adults-only Solarium and The Retreat, the latter of which is reserved exclusively for suite guests. Paul Brady , Travel + Leisure ’s news director and cruise expert, told us, “Because its ships offer so much to do, Celebrity is a fantastic choice for families, who can choose from a huge array of well-designed staterooms and suites. Groups of friends, too, will find much to like, thanks to the brand's fantastic dining (and drinking) options.”

Meet the Expert

Paul Brady is the news director at Travel + Leisure and the brand's expert on all things cruise.

Kari Becker is a travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels.

With a fleet of 16 ships, it can be tricky to determine which Celebrity ship is best suited for your specific needs.Travel advisor Kari Becker of Marvelous Mouse Travels explains, "Whatever your taste, there is a perfect Celebrity cruise to meet your needs." She continues, telling T+L, "There are three main classes: the Edge, Solstice, and Millennium classes, all with unique features, benefits, and advantages." The Millennium-class ships are smaller which, per Becker, may "offer a more personalized experience." Solstice is the largest class of Celebrity's fleet, says Becker. "When designed, these ships focused on innovation, with unique spaces including a real grass lawn, and unique onboard experiences, such as glass-making classes." Last but not least is Celebrity's Edge class. Per the pro, the ships in the line's newest class are "the largest of the fleet, offering more space for additional experiences and restaurants, including a massive pool deck, floating platform at sea (aptly called the Magic Carpet), and Rooftop Garden." All in all, she says, "The Edge series is for guests looking for transformative cruising and splendor with countless gourmet restaurants and immersive entertainment."

Ahead, we’ve listed every Celebrity ship currently in service — complete with their notable amenities, launch year, guest capacity, and other need-to-know insights — to help you determine which vessel is best for your next voyage.

Celebrity Ascent

Inaugural Year: 2023

Ship Class: Edge

Ship Capacity: 3,260 passengers

Celebrity’s newest ship is also its flashiest — in the best way possible. The Celebrity Ascent offers an expanded Retreat area (exclusive to suite guests), complete with a 40-percent-larger two-story sundeck, and the swanky Sunset Bar, which is 180 percent larger. Beyond The Retreat, there are 32 bars, restaurants, and lounges, a lush Rooftop Garden, an adults-only Solarium, the three-level Eden restaurant and entertainment venue, and the Magic Carpet, a floating platform that reaches 13 stories above sea level. Finally, stay in one of the Iconic Suites, the largest in the Celebrity fleet, for the ultimate splurge.

Celebrity Beyond

Inaugural Year: 2022

Celebrity Beyond is nearly identical to Celebrity Ascent . Both Edge-class sister ships have the same spectacular amenities and features, including a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center that’s sure to impress wellness-seekers, who will also be happy in one of the AquaClass Sky Suites, which offer in-room yoga mats and fitness equipment. It’s also worth noting that these suite guests also enjoy access to the SEA Thermal Suite and a dedicated spa concierge. Don’t miss the adults-only Solarium, the Rooftop Garden, the aforementioned Eden, or the Magic Carpet, which offers the best views at sea.

Paul Brady was onboard the Beyond in October 2022. “My stateroom, 9164, was a Sky Suite, with a king bed facing a private terrace and a clever roll-open mirror that let natural light into the spacious bathroom. Dining at the Daniel Boulud restaurant Le Voyage was one highlight — with seven courses — but so too were casual cocktails at Sunset Bar, with its touch of Moroccan design influence courtesy of Nate Berkus, who dreamed up the multi-level lounge,” said Brady of his experience.

Celebrity Apex

Inaugural Year: 2020

Ship Capacity: 2,910 passengers

The second Edge-class ship, Celebrity Apex, made its grand debut in 2020. It boasts an abundance of stylish onboard spaces, including the Rooftop Garden and the adults-only Solarium. Access to the exclusive Retreat area is reason alone to book one of the contemporary suites. Other highlights include the dazzling three-story Grand Plaza, where you’ll find the aptly named Martini Bar, one of 29 bars, lounges, and restaurants aboard Apex , along with the orange-hued Magic Carpet, which offers live music and a full bar 13 feet above sea level.

“I was fortunate to snag one of just a handful of Royal Suites on the ship, 12105, which had the look of a chic coastal Florida cottage, elevated with pops of bright green, geometric tiling, and contemporary art on the walls. The bathroom, with a deep soaking tub and spacious shower, rivaled any I’ve seen at land-based resorts,” said Brady of his November 2021 sailing. “Same with the Grand Plaza at the heart of the ship, a gathering place with a hotel lobby vibe in the best possible sense — and a glitzy Martini Bar.”

This sophisticated ship — the first in Celebrity’s Edge class — changed the game following its 2018 debut. What’s more, Edge was the very first Celebrity ship to feature the Magic Carpet, the multifunctional Eden, and the Infinite Veranda Staterooms, which, with the touch of a button, transform your living space into your very own private balcony.

Located on the top deck of the ship, this chic outdoor space (which is outfitted with real grass, no less), is perfect for sipping cocktails, enjoying a leisurely lunch, listening to live music, lounging in a cabana, or playing a game of bocce or croquet. The adults-only Persian Garden area at the spa is a favorite amongst wellness enthusiasts.

Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity Constellation

Inaugural Year: 2002

Ship Class: Millennium

Ship Capacity: 2,184 passengers

This 22-year-old Celebrity ship offers a more refined, subdued atmosphere compared to the line’s newer ships, which boast flashier features like the Magic Carpet. Celebrity Infinity

Ship Capacity: 2,170 passengers

Celebrity Infinity is a favorite among laid-back cruisers — primarily couples and adult friend groups. Popular onboard hangout spots include the adults-only Solarium, the buzzy Rooftop Terrace, and, for suite guests, The Retreat. Celebrity Cruises ships from newest to oldest — a complete list

What's the newest Celebrity Cruises ship? If you're thinking about booking a trip with Celebrity, it's a good thing to find out.

The newest Celebrity ship is typically also the Celebrity ship with the most bells and whistles and the most up-to-date venues, including cabins, restaurants, bars and attractions. It's what you want if you desire the very latest and greatest in a vessel for your Celebrity Cruises vacation.

Right now, the newest Celebrity cruise ship is Celebrity Ascent . It just debuted in December 2023.

Although Celebrity Ascent isn't even a year old, it'll soon be supplanted as the newest Celebrity Cruises vessel by Celebrity Xcel — a very similar vessel in the same Edge Class series of ships as Celebrity Ascent. Celebrity Xcel is scheduled to begin sailing in November 2025.

Other relatively new Celebrity cruise ships include Celebrity Beyond , Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Flora and Celebrity Edge. All began sailing in the last six years.

In all, Celebrity Cruises operates 16 vessels. On average, the line comes out with a new ship every two years, and it typically keeps vessels in its fleet for around 20 to 30 years before retiring them from the fleet. The oldest Celebrity ship, Celebrity Millennium, is 24 years old.

In general, Celebrity's newest ships are bigger and packed with more venues than its older ships. If you are looking for Celebrity ships with the most restaurants, bars, lounges and other amenities, you'll want to stick to vessels built in the last few years.

Related: 4 types of Celebrity Cruises ships, explained

That said, the above is a generalization that comes with an asterisk. One of Celebrity's newest ships, Celebrity Flora, is also one of its smallest ships.

With room for just 100 passengers, Celebrity Flora is one of three very small vessels in the Celebrity fleet that operate year-round tours in the Galapagos. It's essentially an entirely different business for Celebrity than the mainstream, big-ship cruising that is at the core of the company.

Celebrity is, in a sense, two cruise lines in one: a big-ship brand with 13 vessels that carry 2,000 to 3,000 passengers and sail around the world and a Galapagos cruise tour operator with three tiny vessels that carry just 16 to 100 people. We include all of the vessels in this guide.

Note that Celebrity's two smallest Galapagos vessels will leave its fleet in 2025 as it downsizes its Galapagos operation.

What is the newest Celebrity Cruises ship?

The newest Celebrity cruise ship is Celebrity Ascent. As noted above, it debuted in December 2023. Measuring 141,420 gross tons, it's also the biggest cruise ship in the Celebrity fleet (tied with the slightly older, 141,420-ton Celebrity Beyond).

What is the oldest Celebrity Cruises ship?

The oldest Celebrity cruise ship is Celebrity Millennium. It was unveiled in 2000, right at the turn of the millennium (hence its name). Celebrity Millennium was the first of four Millennium Class vessels to debut in the early 2000s that currently are the oldest vessels in the line's big-ship fleet.

What new Celebrity Cruises ships are coming?

Celebrity Cruises currently has one new cruise ship on order: the 3,260-passenger Celebrity Xcel. It's currently scheduled to debut in November 2025.

Measuring 141,420 tons, Celebrity Xcel will be the fifth ship in Celebrity's Edge Class series of vessels that began debuting in 2018. The first four ships in the series are Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent.

The Edge Class vessels are being built at the giant Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

What is the newest Celebrity Cruises ship available for booking?

Celebrity Xcel is the newest Celebrity Cruises ship that you can book right now. While Celebrity Xcel isn't yet sailing, its initial sailings scheduled for November 2025 are already on sale, as are future sailings through April 2026.

Celebrity Xcel is scheduled to spend its first winter sailing to the Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades .

What is the newest class of Celebrity Cruises ships?

The Edge Class is the newest class of Celebrity Cruises ships. Currently in the midst of rolling out, it'll be made up of at least five vessels.

The first Edge Class vessel, Celebrity Edge, debuted in 2018. Three more ships in the series — Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent — began sailing in 2020, 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The last ship in the series currently on order, Celebrity Xcel, is due in November 2025.

The Edge Class vessels aren't just the newest ships in the Celebrity fleet but are also the most advanced vessels in the Celebrity fleet. Designed to carry 2,908 to 3,260 passengers apiece at double occupancy, they each have such innovative new features as Infinite Veranda cabins with outward-facing walls that are entirely made of glass.

latest celebrity cruise ship news

Another innovative feature of the Edge Class ships is the 90-ton platform along the side of each of the vessels called the Magic Carpet. As big as a tennis court, the platforms are cantilevered over the side of the vessels and can be raised and lowered to serve different functions — from a waterside bar to a water shuttle boarding area.

What's the difference between newer and older Celebrity Cruises ships?

Newer Celebrity Cruises ships generally are bigger than older Celebrity ships — in some cases, by as much as 35% bigger. As a result, they have room for more onboard venues and attractions than the line's older vessels.

On Celebrity's newest and biggest Edge Class vessels, Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond, for instance, you'll find expanded resort-within-a-resort areas for suite passengers called The Retreat that aren't on the smaller vessels in the Edge Class series or on other older ships in the Celebrity fleet. These suite areas offer two-story sundecks with hot tubs, lounge chairs and private cabanas that are open exclusively to passengers staying in suites.

Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond also have 179 more cabins than their sister vessels in the Edge Class series, each of which has 1,467 cabins. As a result, they hold 3,260 passengers at double occupancy. That's up from a 2,910-passenger capacity at double occupancy for Celebrity Apex and a 2,908-passenger capacity at double occupancy for Celebrity Edge.

Celebrity's oldest Millennium Class ships, by contrast, only carry about 2,100 passengers at double occupancy. As a result, they have a more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships.

That makes them a good choice for someone who wants to try Celebrity but isn't eager to travel with big crowds. The oldest ships in the Celebrity fleet thus appeal to a subset of Celebrity fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They are also often less expensive per day to sail on.

Celebrity's three very small Galapagos-based vessels have the most intimate feel of all. They are like tiny boutique hotels that float.

Note that all Celebrity ships are renovated and upgraded on a regular schedule every few years, so even the oldest Celebrity cruise vessels have newer carpeting, updated furniture, modern decor in cabins and other updates. In many cases, they also have had entire eateries and bars renovated over the years with concepts that first debuted on newer vessels.

Royal Caribbean's next mega cruise ship is setting sail next year. Here's what we know about the $230-a-night vessel.

Royal Caribbean says its next Icon class ship, Star of the Seas, will set sail in August 2025.

The first vessel in its class, Icon of the Seas , debuted in early 2024 to massive success.

Star of the Seas would be as large as its predecessor and have amenities like a six-slide waterpark.

Royal Caribbean's next star will be born in the summer of 2025.

The popular cruise line says its second Icon class mega-ship, Star of the Seas, will debut with seven-night Caribbean cruises from Florida's Port Canaveral beginning August 2025. Fares currently start at about $1,610 per person.

Like the younger sibling of a successful firstborn, Star of the Seas has an impressive legacy to live up to.

Royal Caribbean announced its next ship several months before its preceding sister vessel, Icon of the Seas , entered service in January 2024.

By that point, Icon — currently the world's biggest cruise ship — had already lived up to its namesake.

Royal Caribbean saw its largest booking day when reservations for Icon of the Seas opened in October 2022. Since then, Michael Bayley, the cruise line's president and CEO, has repeatedly called the first Icon class vessel the company's "best-selling product."

If Star of the Seas captures the same attention as its predecessor, the new floating resort could be just that — a star.

The sister ships would be identical in size

Like Icon, Star would weigh 248,663 gross tons and tower at 20 decks tall and 1,196 feet long.

At full occupancy, Icon accommodates the population of a small town — 9,950 people, or 2,350 crew and 7,600 guests. Royal Caribbean has not specified Star of the Seas' full guest capacity, but like the older ship, it would accommodate 5,610 guests at double occupancy.

Like size, activities are expected to remain consistent across both behemoth ships.

Identical to Icon, Star would have a six-slide waterpark, seven pools, the amusement park-like Crown's Edge ride , and eight neighborhoods. The latter still includes Surfside, the go-to for families with young children, and AquaDome, home of Royal Caribbean's signature AquaTheater.

Icon's $200-per-person Empire Supper Club was notably left off Star of the Seas' list of amenities. Instead, the new vessel is expected to debut Lincoln Park Supper Club, an upcharged "1930s Chicago-inspired" restaurant with live entertainment. (No word yet on pricing.)

However, if you loved the grab-and-go sushi window, food hall, jazz venue, and swim-up pool bar that debuted on Icon, you'd be pleased to see them return on Star — along with Royal Caribbean staples like a steakhouse, an Italian restaurant, and a seafood eatery.

So, if Star of the Seas books as well as Icon, we could expect the upcoming mega-ship to be another mega-hit.

Royal Caribbean plans to keep busy in the next few years. A third unnamed Icon class vessel is scheduled to debut in 2026, followed by a seventh Oasis class vessel two years later.

‘A New Day has Dawned’ as Celebrity Edge Becomes First Cruise Ship to Sail From a U.S. Port in 15 Months

New-luxury ship Celebrity Edge departs from Ft. Lauderdale on June 26, led by First American Female Captain , Kate McCue

LAUDERDALE (June 26, 2021)– “ #HopeFloats. Today marks the rebirth of our company and our industry, as our beautiful Celebrity Edge sets sail on a new-luxury experience that will - once again - feed peoples’ love of travel.” Those were the inspirational words tweeted from Celebrity Cruises’ President and CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo today, as the exquisite Celebrity Edge prepared to sail from Ft. Lauderdale at 6.00pm ET, becoming the first cruise ship to sail from a U.S. port in more than a year.

What seems only fitting, now, 15 months after being at the helm of history for the first all-female bridge and officer team sailing in March 2020 and the last sailing before the industry was put on pause, Captain Kate McCue, the first and still only American female to captain a major cruise ship, now leads the fleet – and the industry – back into operation from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades. The ship set sails for Mexico and the Bahamas.

Rarely has a seven-night cruise of the Caribbean come with such symbolism and hope, but there is no underestimating that this is an historic moment for the brand as it cruises back to normal. Celebrity Edge was given the green light - and the honor - to be the first ship back in the water, having met all new standards for providing a healthy and safe cruise experience for its guests and crew.

“This is a momentous sailing and one that we have been preparing for a long time. It’s not only a huge honor to be the first ship back in the water, leading the industry in the long-awaited return to U.S.-based cruising, it’s also an incredible achievement and testament to the tireless efforts of our shoreside team and onboard crew”, said Richard Fain, Chairman of the Royal Caribbean Group, the parent company of Celebrity Cruises. “Travel is a powerful catalyst for positive change in our world. There’s nothing more enriching in life than exposing yourself to new cultures, sights, and experiences… and nothing more luxurious than doing it on board a Celebrity cruise ship,” he added. “All that’s left to say is welcome aboard.”

“The significance of this moment is not lost on anyone on our team or the industry. We have longed for this day, not only because it represents a return to service and doing what we love to do most, but because we know that for many the return of cruising is a symbol of the world’s return to normalcy,” said Brian Abel, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations for Celebrity Cruises. “For too long, we’ve had to encourage one another with dreams of ‘someday’ returning to being together, again. Now, as the world opens up, and we can gather and enjoy our families and friends on an amazing cruise vacation, ‘someday’ is here.”

Named ‘ one of the world’s greatest places’ by Time Magazine , Celebrity Edge is widely regarded as the most innovative cruise ship on earth. The ship’s onboard experience stands apart from anything else at sea, creating an exciting modern cruising experience with offerings like the incredible Magic Carpet® , soaring cantilevered above the sea and transformational accommodations like hyper-lux two-story villas with private plunge pools.

Inaugurated in 2018, Celebrity Edge’s unique outward-facing design breaks from traditional shipbuilding. Aboard, guests feel more connected with the sea and the places they visit, whether it’s sipping cocktails from the sundeck of The Retreat , a private oasis within the ship, or taking in the stunning vistas from the botanical Rooftop Garden. The ship’s amenities and views will infuse new life into passengers that have longed to travel and see the world once again.

“The week after our entire industry was grounded, last March, I started a #HopeFloats tradition of blowing the ship’s horn every evening to let the world know that not only were we safe, but we were thinking of those at home and hoping the same for them, said Captain McCue.  “Now, the sound of a ship’s horn symbolizes rising above from any hardship. The entire crew is so happy to be back and we can’t wait to welcome our guests aboard!”

With today’s sailing, eight of the 14 ships within the Celebrity Cruises’ fleet now have plans to return to sailing in 2021 and are ready to take guests to breathtaking destinations, from the Caribbean to Europe, Alaska and the Galapagos, including:

  • The magnificent Celebrity Millennium led North America’s return to service as the first ship to sail in the Caribbean on June 5 from St. Maarten.
  • Celebrity Apex , the newest addition to the Celebrity fleet, made her world debut in Athens on June 19 , with seven-night sailings to the Greek Isles. The cruise marked a historic return to Greece for the company, which was founded there 33 years ago.
  • Celebrity Silhouette prepares to summer in Southampton, UK beginning July 3 and offer stunning cruises of the British Isles and coastline.
  • Beginning July 4 , the luxurious, state-of-the-art mega-yacht, Celebrity Flora® , will resume sailing the magical Galapagos Islands. She will be followed soon after by the award-winning Celebrity Xpedition® and intimate 16-passenger Celebrity Xploration® on July 24, and September 18, respectively.
  • And, Celebrity’s long-awaited return to the incomparable natural wonders of Alaska begin July 23 .

Healthy at Sea Celebrity Cruises has established new health and safety measures in accordance with guidance from public health authorities, government agencies, and its own team of health and safety experts to provide guests with the peace of mind to fully enjoy their voyage.

All Celebrity ships will sail with a vaccinated crew. U.S. guests ages 16 and older must be fully vaccinated and, as of August 1, 2021, all U.S. guests ages 12 and older must be fully vaccinated. In Florida, vaccinations are strongly recommended. Requirements for Non-U.S. guests vary and more details can be found by visiting https://www.celebritycruises.com/healthy-at-sea .

These measures will evolve in keeping with current public health standards. Guests are encouraged to regularly check the guidance on all health and safety measures across the entire Celebrity Cruises vacation experience can be found at https://www.celebritycruises.com/healthy-at-sea .

Gunman revealed Trump plot months before golf course arrest: DOJ

The gunman suspected of planning to kill Donald Trump on his golf course wrote a chilling letter months ago about a failed "assassination attempt" on the former US president, according to court papers filed Monday as he was remanded in custody.

The correspondence emerged as Ryan Routh appeared before a judge in south Florida where he was charged on suspicion of two firearms offenses, with prosecutors indicating that they planned to seek a further count of attempted assassination.

Routh, 58, was arrested allegedly fleeing in a car from Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida on September 15.

A Secret Service agent had fired on him after spotting a rifle poking out of the tree line several holes ahead of Trump, the government alleges in a preliminary filing to the court.

The document says Routh had allegedly dropped off a box at an unidentified person's home "several months" beforehand, containing ammunition, a metal pipe, building materials, phones "and various letters."

After learning of the apparent assassination bid, the witness apparently opened the box and discovered a letter addressed to "The World."

"This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you," said the letter, the front page of which was pictured in an image included with the filing.

"I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job."

It was not clear if he was referring to a separate, earlier attempt on Trump's life or if he was predicting that his golf course assassination bid would end in failure.

Routh was remanded in custody at his hearing in West Palm Beach.

He is accused of keeping a gun with a scratched-out serial number and possessing a firearm illegally as a felon, although prosecutors said they would seek an "attempted assassination" charge when they put the case before a grand jury.

This would bring a maximum penalty on conviction of life imprisonment.

- 'Slap on the wrist' -

Trump accused the Department of Justice and FBI of "mishandling and downplaying" the golf course incident -- alleged to be the second attempt on Trump's life after a shooting at a Pennsylvania rally in July.

The gunman in the earlier case was killed at the scene and it is not thought to be connected with the new alleged plot.

"The charges brought against the maniac assassin are a slap on the wrist," Trump said in a written statement which may have been prepared before it emerged that extra felony counts were a possibility.

In a statement littered with falsehoods and baseless conspiracy theories about his various criminal cases, Trump called for the Routh case to be handed to state authorities in Florida, which is run by hard-right Republican governor Ron DeSantis.

Detectives believe Routh may have been lying in wait for Trump for nearly 12 hours at the Florida course. He was arrested after police spotted his car driving on a nearby highway.

The government says Routh traveled to Florida a month before his arrest and began watching the golf course and drove by Trump's oceanfront home.

In online posts Routh said he voted for Trump in 2016 but that the president had become a disappointment.

"Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less a US president," said Routh's letter.

"US presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America, and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity. Trump fails to understand any of (that)."

Routh's defense team acknowledged that he had been arrested on less serious allegations in the past but described him as a law-abiding citizen with no record of violence.

A teenage boy has reportedly been stabbed in the food court of a busy shopping centre.

The bizarre start to the domestic cricket season has continued with a diamond duck and an unknown bowler erupting in Sydney.

Authorities have safely removed the dead adult humpback whale after it had beached itself near a popular tourist spot.
