The drama is a tearjerking showcase for Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Azazel Jacobs’ His Three Daughters opens on Katie (Carrie Coon), who spits out a winded monologue with barely space for breath. Then her two sisters enter, and finally Katie comes up for air, if only for a moment, so that Christina (Elizabeth Olsen) can have her turn depriving the room of oxygen. Christina is Katie’s youngest sister and Rachel (Natasha Lyonne) is the middle child, two women with whom Katie could perhaps not feel any less tangible kinship with, a persistent shared adolescent gibberish language notwithstanding. The one thing that ties the three women is the slow, painful decline of their ailing father, Vinnie (Jay O. Sanders), under housebound hospice care at the co-op apartment in Manhattan which rear all of them—albeit at largely different times. Rachel was effectively adopted by Vinnie after he married her mother, following the death of Christina and Katie’s mother. But Rachel’s status as a stepsister and Katie and Christina’s age difference rendered the three of them viewing their childhoods, and their relationships with their father, very differently. These differences, in turn, have guided a strained relationship into adulthood.

His Three Daughters (Jacobs’ follow up to 2020’s enjoyable French Exit ) is a sentimental, sweet, and very “actorly” film, and feels more like a stage play despite being written for the screen. The story mostly takes place inside the father’s apartment over the course of several days, as the trio of unalike women attempts to reconcile their differences with the grief that’s currently uniting them, waiting for their father to finally pass. The course of the narrative and the characters’ development are foreseeable and serve in no small part as awards consideration platforms for Coon, Olsen, and Lyonne (although, the latter is largely typecast here). The two uptight mother-sisters who seem to have their lives together versus the pot-smoking sister who spends her days betting on sports games. If I had wanted to bet $1,000 on my initial expectation, something along the lines of “the three women will understand that they have more in common than they realize and will grow to learn from one another’s differences,” I’d be a little bit richer.

The journey to that predictable conclusion, though, is well worth taking, and it’s never a bad experience watching these three talented actresses play off one another; chiefly, Olsen, whose return to her indie roots has been nearly a decade coming. Olsen portrays Christina as an overly overjoyed new mom hiding a psychotic break in her back pocket underneath layers of mindfulness and yoga, a former drug-loving Deadhead who sings their songs to her dying father much to the chagrin of her sisters. Coon’s Katie is domineering, straitlaced, and tightly wound, as she intermittently battles it out on the phone with her teenage daughter who’s just learning how to rebel against her mother’s rules. Then there’s Lyonne as the down-to-earth, streetwise Rachel, a familiar character for the actress if slightly more demure (but no less prickly).

Rachel resents her sisters taking over the apartment in their father’s final days, knowing that they still view her as an interloper to their family—yet she’s been the one solely presiding over his care. Christina has an excuse in living across the country, but Rachel has less sympathy for the Brooklyn-bound Katie. Her infrequent visits have more vocally aggravated Rachel’s boyfriend (Jovan Adepo). This clown car inhabits an apartment that at once feels impossibly, unendingly huge and suffocatingly small—hard to imagine it had previously housed three children and two parents. DP Sam Levy has unsurprising credits on Lady Bird and Frances Ha , films whose naturalistic touch contains shades of expressionism that allow their spaces to hold an aura of warm, comfortable nostalgia that disguises their constant potential for present hostilities.

The tensions between the sisters never quite ramp up into a Marriage Story -esque, Oscar-baity blow-up, which is for the best. His Three Daughters is already a bit too composed of run-on monologues where characters seem to know precisely just what to say to one another. The opening scene in which Katie, Christina, and Rachel gather in a circle to discuss the uncomfortable situation at hand—the camera pointedly alternating between medium close-ups of each sister separately, to emphasize their disconnect—precariously verges on being overwrought, far too insistent upon itself to prove both its screenwriter and its cast. But at the same time, the climax of His Three Daughters could be seen as something of a self-aware jest at the very fantastical, movie-centric idea that people could ever think of exactly what to say to their loved ones in the short time that they have left with them. It’s a perspective given credence by a scene in which Christina relays to her sisters her father’s views on the way death is portrayed in film and on TV. As a child, he had told her that the reality of death is absence; “the rest is just fantasy.”

Jacobs here acknowledges the paradox of the cinematic grieving portrait he wishes to paint. Self-awareness can only take a film so far, however, and it can sometimes feel like Jacobs wants to have his cake and eat it too. But it also strikes as a crucial heel turn in the way both the sisters and the audience are meant to perceive the grieving process. The sisters attempt to decipher the meaning of what their father told Christina, but the absence of what is said between them and about their father is where they learn to find meaning in their relationship. In the end, despite whatever they’ve said, their feelings towards the loss of their father are depicted most plainly in the absence of his body in his favorite reclining chair, a physical space they attempt to fill themselves as if feeling for his ghost in the folds of leather.

It’s a poignant moment, and His Three Daughters is an extremely effective tear-jerker. The emotional monologues towards the film’s conclusion are catnip for those with, as Jack Donaghy might say, “two ears and a heart.” Far less dark and dryly humorous than French Exit , Jacobs’ latest film turns on the melodrama and allows its leading ladies to spread out within the layered confines of their characters, coping with the physical and emotional confines of their situation. The three sisters eventually part without getting in that perfect final word, but still recognize an unspoken understanding that the years, distance, and blood (or lack thereof) which has separated them are also absences that should be used to cherish one another more deeply in the present.

Horrible company! Don't buy from them! The Good Girl perfume (€85) I received was a fake. It has no scent at all. As another customer mentioned here, all you receive from customer "service" are template answers. Primor said a courier would pick up my faulty perfume from my house in Portugal and I would then be refunded but they gave no news about the date and time of this so-called pickup and email silence since 2 December 2022

I have been waiting for my order for more than 2 weeks now and no one from customer service is replying me. I have emailed them thrice. There is no contact number to reach support, I have bought products worth 200 euros, and Im not sure anymore if Im ever going to receive my stuff

Primor Granvia an appalling experience

I was recently in the Grand VIA location and the assistant on the bottom floor was unprofessional and refused to check me out because one of their items was not barcoded. When asked if she could fi d It she stated it's not her problem and if I want I can go to the top floor and look for it and then get back in line. Management did not help the situation and refused to provide her name . Her rude demeanor and lack of client service at such a pivotal location is truly astonishing

Primor Fuengirola - rude staff!

Won’t be shopping here again. I’ll be taking my business to Druni. The staff (in the main) are unfriendly, they treat you like you’re going to steal as soon as you walk through the door, and when I asked for help a staff member was really rude. Never again. Would not recommend.

Absolut chaos

Absolut chaos, plenty of staff many of which were just standing there chatting to each other while there was only one till open and a very long queue of customers, plus stock scattered everywhere, I had to just leave what I was gonna buy and left. The management of that store is embarrassing.

Fake parfum!!!!

i bought perfume in spain but it is not the real one. smell goes away quickly and look at the pictures different color perfume and the code on the left is not as nice black and well printed as on the right. it is a good imitation but unfortunately it works it to continue like this they sell real perfume and counterfeit mixed up!!!

SCAM not a shop, no money no order

I placed an order on May 12, it charged my credit card, said it was succesfull and showed the order number. The company I was charged by is names SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY in Portugal. Now, 2 days later I don't see any orders in my account and there is no e-mail with confirmation even. My bank says the money were charged and they can't return that, but Primor doesn't even show my order on their website. That is a total scam. I will go to police with this, I can see I was not the only one they scam!

I had a very bad experience buying online. I have ordered some products online on the 6th of November. On the 15th still didn't receive anything I have sent an email to Primor to ask about my order. They replied that I have to check with transports agency, fair. On the 20th still didn't receive anything, because the packet was broken. So instead that primor inform me or whatever, no they are just ignoring me. So I always have to ask, okay now that is broken, will you meke a refund, they said yes, until today the 28th I haven't received anything and none is answering to my emails. I would never buy from people, the worst service ever. Prices are low but client service is 0. But first I need my money back!!!!!!

Just terrible customer service

Just terrible customer service. They sent me a foundation package that seemed to have exploded. The product was all over the other items of my order. I threw it in the garbage immediately and had a lot of cleaning to do. I sent them the pictures, and they still demand the damaged product to be returned so that they can send me my money back. Do they really need that piece of trash??

Acabo de comprar una base de maquillaje en Primor de la calle Larga de Jerez de la Frontera. Le he preguntado el nombre a la chica que me ha atendido porque hacia tiempo que no me trataban tan bien en un Primor (el del centro comercial de Area sur es lamentable el trato). Enhorabuena a esta chica que se ve que le encanta su trabajo y el trato humano a las personas. A dejado de hacer lo que estaba haciendo para asesorarme. No solo se ha quedado en decirme “no queda” sino que me ha dado alternativas que además me han encantado. Esta chica es Sara Durán. Gracias Sara.

No compréis online en Primor, llevo 8 días sin recibir mi pedido y no me han solucionado nada.

No compréis online en Primor; en caso de ineficacia de MRW no te resuelven nada. Te quedas sin mercancía y no te devuelven el dinero. Inaceptable, llevo 8 días esperando por el pedido y aún no me ha llegado. Les mandé varios correos electrónicos a Primor y en el último me vuelven a pedir la dirección porque dicen que la tengo mal puesta. Eso es mentira, mi dirección de correo postal está correcta desde que me inscribí en su web. He tenido que mandar varias veces mi dirección nuevamente y sigo sin mercancía y sin mi dinero. Primor me da largas y no resuelve nada.

En parte decepcionada

El servicio ha sido rápido. Lo que me parece lamentable es que habiendo hecho un pedido de 326 euros de productos La Mer me hayan mandado de muestras un bote de colonia de Barbie y otro de Monster High. Es que no tenían otras muestras que sean de interés para un comprador de este perfil???. Indignante. Prefiero que no me manden nada.

Hoy he estado con mi hija en el primor del xanadu y he salido encantada… Hemos ido para comprar un perfume de hombre y Nos ha atendido la empleada Tamara en la perfumería de hombres que ha sido encantadora un 10 de persona. A la hora de ir a pagar, nos ha atendido la compañera Sara y también ha sido encantadora Yo trabajo en una ferretería y sé lo que es esto y da gusto encontrar empleados tan naturales y educados, porque aguantan carros y carretas con los clientes Un 10 chicas!!!!

Ha sido muy mala experiencia de compra…

Ha sido muy mala experiencia de compra online, y mira que soy cliente habitual. Esta última compra lo envian por SEUR, la peor, siempre pieden o roban los paquetes, y por supuesto NO me ha llegado el paquete. Estuve todo el día y a la hora que decían que el paquete no se entregó por Ausencia. He contactado con seur y con Primor y la gente de Atención te cuelgan el teléfono con muy mal trato encima, te envían a un número al que es de pago y entonces para qué me ha servido el envío gratis por la compra de cierta cantidad? Y al fin es que ni me llega el paquete, a sido un total ESTAFA.

Llevo casi un mes esperando un pedido. Decían que en tres días llegaba. No hay manera de contactar con atención al cliente. Solo puedes chatear con una máquina Nadie contesta a los e-mails. Que mala experiencia comprando por internet y parece ser que tengo que dar gracias que era contrareembolso.

Muy mal servicio

Muy mal servicio. Hace 10 días que realice un pedido y no lo he recibido cuando la fecha de entrega era el 28 de agosto. No hay manera de contactar con ellos ni con la empresa de transporte (Envialia). Penoso!

Pedido en web, muy recomendable

Llegó en 2-3 días justo como se indica, con Correos Exprés que tiene buen seguimiento del paquete. Muy buen envuelto, todo llegó de maravilla. Los mejores precios los encuentro siempre en Primor. - Cosas a mejorar: se supone que te dan alguna muestra (así lo pone cuando haces la compra), en cambio te llega una chuche.

Atención al cliente mala

Hola, he echo mi marido un pedido para mi de regalo, unas cremas de Estée Lauder, vaya caro!. En el pedido me ponían que me mandaban una muestra y una bolsa de la marca antes nombrada. Hemos abierto un ticket, que llaman ellos. Porque solo me han llegados las cremas y una piruleta. He comprado en otros sitios online y SIEMPRE tienen un detalle con el cliente, pero aquí aparte no cumplen con lo que dicen y hablan de que se pondrán contigo a la mayor brevedad, y aquí estamos esperando. Me gusta primor, pero su cuidado al cliente es muy deficiente. Ya cosa parecida me pasó en otra compra

SELLO DE SEGURIDAD MANIPULADO.

Realicé una compra de una colonia y cuando llegó, el sello de garantía, estaba roto y con signos de haber sido manipulado. La contestación de la reclamación (varios días después) dejó mucho que desear ya que, desde Atención al Cliente, la respuesta fue poco menos que absurda. Había fixo tapando el roto del sello de garantía y la Srta. Nadja me comunicó que lo envían así para más seguridad y que gracias por la confianza en Primor... Confianza??? Lo siento, ninguna confianza en este servicio online.

Envío bastante rápido (2-3 días) perfume Enzo muy especial. Tal cual lo esperaba y con un chupachups en la cajita. Me puse a leer reseñas por aquí y me asusté un poco, aún así mi intuición fue probar con la compra, era la primera vez, y he quedado super satisfecho :). Era el precio más bajo de todos los que encontré en tiendas online. Entiendo que normalmente el que queda satisfecho con algo, no se esfuerza en dar buenas reseñas; mientras el que tiene un percance si que está más dispuesto a invertir tiempo y energía en dejar constancia. Pasa con casi todo en la vida, lo malo hace mucho ruido, lo bueno pasa màs desapercibido. Así pues, me he sentido responsable de tener que hacer la reseña!

Ex-Warrior JTA, fueled by fatherhood, continues basketball journey

SANTA CRUZ – Juan Toscano-Anderson, sitting on the sidelines at Kaiser Permanente Arena, looks down at the inside of his left forearm gleaming with pride. The Oakland native and Warriors champion isn’t new to the court that kickstarted his road to Golden State. What is new is his latest ink in honor of his son that’s beginning to heal. 

“That’s at the top of my list, being a dad,” Toscano-Anderson told NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s the best thing I could have ever done. I’m glad that my son chose me to be his dad. He’s the best, he’s my baby goat. 

“I just got his name tattooed, ‘Jadyce The Greatest with a baby goat,’ because he’s the best thing to ever happen to me.”

The 31-year-old is back at the home of the Santa Cruz Warriors as a member of the G League United for the G League Fall Invitational where an eclectic group of prospects and veterans alike will play BC Mega Mis of Serbia on Wednesday and Friday, the same club that the late former Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic coached future three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić and current Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac.

At the conclusion of the United’s final practice before their first game, Toscano-Anderson skipped to center court and dapped up his teammates on his way to a huddle led by San Diego Clippers coach Paul Hewitt where he had the team break on “Dominate!” together. 

Toscano-Anderson easily is the leader of the group with the deepest pedigree. While others are looking to prove themselves for the first time, Toscano-Anderson is playing for something bigger as the current free agent also believes he still has plenty left to give on the court. Once the opportunity was presented to him, Toscano-Anderson jumped at the chance of coming back to Santa Cruz. 

Relentless defense. Diving for loose balls, even if it means putting his body on the line and crashing into the scorer’s table. Using his athleticism as a high-flier however it can help the team, and being an extra voice on the floor or the bench. All these traits have led to Toscano-Anderson’s improbable path to becoming a champion.

And all will remain with him as long as he’s playing basketball. He also is quick to point out that he did shoot over 40 percent from 3-point range in his first full NBA season with the Warriors in 2020-21, but understands shooting always has been a knock on his game. Toscano-Anderson says he has worked relentlessly the past few months on his outside shot, specifically training with coach Phil Beckner in Phoenix and hopes to show consistency there to receive a training camp invite to a team. His contagious energy is sure to be seen, too. 

The sentimental aspect of these two games isn’t missed by him either. These fans are home to Toscano-Anderson. He earned a spot on Santa Cruz’s roster from an open tryout in 2018 and played 74 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors between the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons prior to making his NBA debut for his hometown team at 26 years old on Feb. 8, 2020.

“When I left Santa Cruz and went up to Golden State I always said, ‘Man, I miss playing in Santa Cruz,’” he remembers. “I never knew if I’d get the opportunity to play here again. Now that I do, I just want to embrace it, enjoy it and just be in the moment.”

It has been more than four and a half years since Toscano-Anderson played a game in Santa Cruz, and six months since his last game action, which was with the Mexico City Capitanes of the G League. He signed with the Sacramento Kings nearly two months into the NBA season after playing 11 games for the Capitanes, and then played 11 more games for coach Mike Brown ahead of being waived in early January. 

That could have been a hindrance too hard to handle for many. But that’s not how the Castro Valley High School alum is built. A month and a half later, Toscano-Anderson was back in Mexico City where fans flocked to watch him play and his popularity surpassed those with the highest power in the entire country. 

Toscano-Anderson as a member of the Warriors in 2022 became the first Mexican-American champion in NBA history. Eighteen months later, his son attended his first game on Dec. 3, 2023, where in front of 13,561 fans at Mexico City Arena who revere Toscano-Anderson, he scored 29 points against the Austin Spurs. Those 29 points are more than he has scored in any of his 202 NBA games, as well as his 93 career games in the G League and the 121 games he played at Marquette. 

“You step into this business and you want to be a basketball player, but it comes with so much more,” Toscano-Anderson said. “You become a role model, you become an ambassador, you become all these other things. It’s cool to be a role model for kids, but it’s even cooler to be a role model for my own son.

“The biggest thing for me is when my kid grows up or he gets older, I want him to be proud when he says, ‘That’s my dad.’ That’s just how I look at it. I want to put on the best game I can when my son comes to see me play because I want to set a standard for him. … Averaging 15 points is cool, but I can average 25 if my dad averaged 15. Being an NBA champion is cool, but I can be a three-time NBA champion because my dad was an NBA champ. Or I can be an MVP or All-Star and so forth. 

“That’s just my perspective on it all. I just want to set a baseline standard for him, so that way he has things to attack and things he wants to accomplish as he gets older.”

Parenthood for many creates a newfound motivation some never knew they had within them. That isn’t the word Toscano-Anderson gravitates towards, however. Perspective is, in every way. 

The perspective of a parent, a partner, a man who now has almost a decade’s worth of professional basketball to his name, and a name that holds weight that no other NBA player has. 

“From my position, being a one-of-one, representing a country and being that for Mexico, I won’t be forgotten,” Toscano-Anderson knows. “... I don’t know if there are any other Toscano-Andersons in the world, but I want that name to carry weight and for it to be a legacy moving forward and something for my son to be proud of.” 

When he walks back onto the Kaiser Permanente Arena court Wednesday night, a little more than three weeks from Jadyce’s first birthday on Sep. 28, Toscano-Anderson will remember Santa Cruz fans screaming his name years ago. He’ll remember why he wore No. 95 for the Warriors as a tribute to his childhood home on Oakland’s 95th Avenue. The highs, the lows and everything else will be there with him, as they always have been. 

Now all he’ll have to do is take a peek at the baby goat imprinted on his left forearm for why the journey continues wherever his basketball life takes him next, supplanted forever by his greatest gift of fatherhood.
